Facebook Marketplace Find - Dyson DC04 De Stijl - With Extras!

Whoa it's been a hot minute since I've seen one of these vacuum cleaners and I'm so happy to have acquired it.
This is the special edition Dyson DC04 De Stijl that was released around 1999 as a compliment to the standard DC04 range. If you wanted a bit more colour in your vacuuming life then the DS is the version of the DC01 / DC02 / DC04 that you bought.
I remember these as being hideously expensive, in excess of £250 in 1999 which is a lot of money NOW let alone back then. So let's check it out and I'll tell you the story of collecting it.
Also, as a little bonus, if your DC04 isn't picking up as it should, then I have a hack that can improve the machine's performance using a bowl and a kettle full of boiling water.

DC07,DC14,DC33 suffer same and could use the same treatment, I swap the grey connector to the opposite end of hose, soak in hot water and hang grey end down with laundry close pin (Pinch Type) for a few days. install hose on the floor head first but don't tighten fully, only till about a quarter off from fully down. The hose is supposed to push on the back side of floor head. If done correctly when you tilt back the vacuum the front of floor head will spring up fully.

I've been trying to sell my one for 6 months - so I passed it to a friend and he's finally sold it! They are nice machines- the 04 - I have a silver and lime and love it - but very little room to store lots of cleaners- selected few for me! Yours looks great Steve- so glad you got one and your happy to have it - for a split second I thought it was my old one at first glance but it's not of course

I love the "DS" have an 01 and 04 have never seen an 02. Never understood why the upright came with a floor tool?

Most vacuums of the '90s were the slim bagged form-factor and could therefore go under furniture. The Dyson was bulky, so they had to figure out a way around it.

@jettmuss but it was only the "DS" that came with a floor tool and on a 04 the wand wasn't reversible so you still had the big handle at floor level.

@@iangrice329 That is true, but this is Dyson we are talking about here - a law unto themselves. I used to sell these cleaners back in the day (I worked in a Co-Op showroom) and remember the mindset of those who bought these cleaners...there were people who just liked them because of the colour, people who only ever bought top of the range anything, and people who thought if they were going to spend that much money then they may as well spend a bit more (especially if bought on credit terms as the price difference wasn't as noticeable) to get the one that does everything just in case they needed it to. This said, the De Stjil cleaners across the range were never that popular in our store - the DC01 was the most popular of all, but the 02 and 04 cleaners didn't sell easily. I bought my mother a DC04 D/S in February 2002, and chose it as it was reduced to clear at £199.99. But it was a model we'd had in stock for easily a year, possibly even two or more, and didn't have the updates to the plug & lettering etc that later models did. My mothers cleaner simply stopped working in 2014, but the thin plastic was so unbelievably fragile that it wasn't even worth attempting to take it apart as it was literally falling to pieces.
