The chess analysis computer, no matter who you are, believes in you and your opponent. It looks at your games like: "c'mon guys, what's wrong with you two today? You're not playing like the masters I know you can be!" It's surprised, every move, that you're off form.

The irony of calling someone a coward in chess for *not* trading queens is real. XD On a serious note though, this is amazing content NL. I am decent at chess but thankfully not enough for mistakes to be painfully obvious and I still enjoy your commentary. Honestly I enjoy the less banter and more thinking-out-loud routine, so don't worry about it being difficult to banter. Also I'm glad you have a computer backseating you instead of people who don't even play the game this time around. Here's to hoping this sticks around for at least a little bit!

Yeah. Average for a club player, which is someone who loves the game, studies, and competes. In a universal sense 1500 is a fairly strong player with good fundamentals. In the scope of professional chess 1500 would be called amateur.

Over the years of watching your content I've always felt strategic games are where you shine your best NL. I've been worried for the day you eventually picked up Chess again. That it wouldn't have the same shine that it had and years of being a content creator would dull the experience for both you and the series, leading to a quick drop of the series and crossing it off the list. I sincerely hope that Chess becomes a staple for you, as there's something raw and pure about the game that brings out your absolute best skills as a content creator and a gamer to me. I'll understand if it isn't the money maker that you hope for, but as someone who's been watching your channel for a long time, it's like watching your years of growth as an entertainer converge into exactly what I've been waiting for as a viewer. To that end I'm going to pledge $10 to you via Twitch every month specifically for this series. I hope other long time viewers will follow suit with what they can and it'll allow this series to continue. Thanks so much for the content!

A couple of things. First, the bars on the right that you interpreted as the computer score, is the time taken per move. Second, you can enable certain QoL things by clicking the cogwheel next to the opponents timer. Here, you can enable things like the arrows (drawing on the board) and pre-moves, auto-promotion to queen, flipping the board, etc.

In chess, a discovered attack is a move, where a piece is moved and a previously blocked rank, file or diagonal is revealed to attack a previously unthreatened piece. Discovered attacks can be quite strong as they by nature accomplish two things in one move. For their strength, discovered attacks can be quite easy to set up, and can appear quite innocuous as preparing a discovered attack can be easily mistaken for normal defensive positioning
