Great job, Lex, on catching that this vibe was more of an 80's feel. "La Grange" was a 1973 hit, and this one was in 1983. Although, I don't know how you thought this might be a different band. There's no mistaking ZZ Top's sound. Gimme All Your Lovin is probably my favorite of theirs.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. I never liked these dudes, and I'll tell you the exact reason why. Every single song they put out sounded exactly the same. Some will try and say, oh that's their signature sound, I say, HUM 🤔🤔🤔. Each to their own, but for myself--- I'll Pass!!!

Billy Gibbons has a decently wide range of singing styles and range that he can work with. There are also some songs where Dusty Hill sang lead instead, the most famous one being 'Tush.' I highly recommend Tush, by the way. Awesome song.

Yeah, I hate music videos, but the unfortunate truth is that songs of this era were literally written to be "seen" on the shiny-new "MTV"... In most cases, they weren't "deep" and we didn't need to analyze the lyrics... I'm glad those days are over, but it's probably best to -listen- "watch" the song as the artist (or record company) intended. 😏
@rare_wulf9358

It's hard for somebody who doesn't know anything about the songs to know if the official video, or lyric video, or live video, or whatever that War Pigs video is, is the best to react to for the first time.
@WOranos
@WOranos 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bob5mith It's a good rule of thumb that if the song was released in the 80s, the video is worth a watch. Artists used to put a lot of effort into the video that accompanied their songs, and in some special cases, this produced some real visual gems. Imagine "Take On Me" or "Don't Come Around Here No More" without ever seeing the visuals that went along with these great songs. That's just plain tragic. The 80s was a decade of raw creativity and innovation for both music and video. They are cheating themselves by ignoring one over the other.

Life was a WHOLE LOT MORE FUN back then. Artists understood the value in innuendo. Music could manage to be raunchy but you rarely had to cover your kids ears when it played. Life as a whole used to be that way, but today music is not even tolerable 90% of the time. At least to me it isn't. Thankfully people started reacting to older music here on youtube, and it has been rather enjoyable watching people experience all of this old music as if it were completely new. To a certain degree we are experiencing it for the first time all over again - as if THAT made any sense at all. LOL

Lex, you hit the nail on the head again when you said this was like 80s, dance music. ZZ Top really evolved their sound in the 80s. They kept those signature guitar sounds and riffs, but the music became much more danceable, and their videos were amazing! They were one of the first bands to figure out the power of music videos, and they killed it on MTV (back when they played music videos, of course). Everyone was dancing to ZZ Top in the clubs!

The strangest thing about this band is that they were this Rock and Roll Boogie Woogie band with a heavy blues influence from Texas that suddenly dominated the Radio and MTV at the height of new wave and early hip hop era. They caught on to the new age of the music video right away and became Gigantic. If you ever watched the TV show Bones the guy who plays the father of the character named Angela is the one singing on most of their songs.

Lex, you are spot on when you said this has an 80s dance club feel to it. LaGrange was done in the 70s and after a long hiatus by the band, they came back in the 80s with a completely different sound. A lot of us felt like they sold out to mainstream MTV producers just to sell a ton of records, and it did. I can't blame them for wanting to make a buck though. But it doesn't have that gritty, Texas blues sound to it. I had to laugh though when Brad mentions that it's that underlying truth that a lot of what men do is to get women (so true). Get all dressed up (and Lex murmurs "Just so we can rip it off"). I was rolling.

You nailed it when you said 80s. This is the 80s ZZ Top and I believe LaGrange is the much older stuff.

My dad's band played this at the bar all the time and instead of saying every girl crazy about a sharp dressed man, they said every girl crazy about a well hung man. Haha, good times
