Frank and Judy’s first love affair had been in 1949. After divorcing from first wife Nancy, Frank Sinatra went on to marry Hollywood actress Ava Gardner. Meanwhile, Judy married producer Sidney Luft after divorcing from second husband Vincente. Still, neither Frank nor Judy found that they were totally satisfied with their new marriages. Because of this, they started up a second affair together.
There were numerous reasons that Frank and Judy kept their various love affairs a secret throughout their lives, not the least of which being that they were both married to other people on both occasions. However, a recently recovered letter written by Judy and given to Frank to signal the end of their first affair has recently verified long-standing rumors that the pair were romantically involved.
Frank and Judy’s second love affair occurred in 1955, and the pair never got back together romantically after this second occasion. However, they remained lifelong friends. I've read about 6 Biographys on Judy Garland. I think Shipman's book talks of her affair with Frank Sinatra .I didn't know about the letter .I did know he paid for the her funeral in 1969.I also thought I read that Liza promised to pay him back .Her funeral was probally expensive as they shipped her body from London. I think Liza, Lorna and Joey called him Uncle Frank.

I believe Frank Sinatra helped pay for the funeral expenses of several entertainers. Sammy Davis Jr for example. I imagine in Judy's case her family could have paid for a modest service. I think Frank wanted to see Judy go out in the style she deserved.

I don't believe Frank could be "friends" with any reasonably attractive woman, as "friends" is defined. It's been accepted over the years that he had friendships with Dinah Shore and Peggy Lee, but then I read- and I believe it- that these were sexual relationships.
