What an amazingly beautiful visit today. I LOVE books too. The feel, the smell, the excitement of a new investigation into herbs or a tale of long ago that I revisit over and over. I have a dream of someday visiting Ireland as my grandmother’s people are from around Galway region. Thanks for sharing your little slice of peace with us.

Hello Terri. Blessings to you and your family. I’m going to be getting some of the books you shared with us today. I too have a library scattered around my home. My granddaughters love looking at all my books! So these that you talked about will be a lovely addition. My youngest granddaughter spotted a fairy ring at her recess in school one day. She warned the other children to not disturb that area and taught them the reason. I was so proud of her. Both of the girls love learning about our Irish history and the stories, lore and traditions. Thanks for this. I've come back to Dickens, aged 70. What a writer he was. The characterisation, landscape depiction, his ability with the English Language is second to none. I've returned to classic books, going through them as I think of them: Crime and Punishment, To Kill a Mocking Bird, the Count of Monte Cristo and so on. I will take your recommendation of Wilkie Collins book. I'd completely forgotten about about him and I will read the Book of Kells. I grew up in the 50s knowing every wild plant that surrounded me, I had the little 'Observers Book of Wild Flowers' then and I still love those books. So I can feel a little of what you felt as a child about books and of course about flowers

What a 'coincidence': yesterday evening I was listening to some Irish music, went to my bookshelf and took the book about fairies and folktales from W.B Yeats out (published in the seventies or eighties) Instead of listening to nature, they're cutting here all the forests. I can't walk in nature anymore, because there's no nature left and it hurts. Ten years ago this was the greenest part of the Netherlands. Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful and varied titles! I can’t wait to check them out. Our community in Toronto has “Little Libraries” that people put up on their front yards. Charming book containers (think big, covered bird feeders) housing gently used books, that people can take and share. When you need to edit and clean out your personal library, it’s a great place to offer someone a “new” read! Always a different set of books each week, as people drop off books of their own that they have finished reading. Have a great week!

Oh Joy, that sounds like a really lovely idea. I must suggest that to friends and neighbours. The last time I was in Dublin, I stopped by Trinity College to see the Book of Kells. It was a moving experience. So ancient and fragile. There was a bit too much Christianity for me, but I did admire the beauty of the art and calligraphy. I will have to check out MacEvoy's The Book of Kells. It seems to have more Celtic roots. Thanks for this one. I really enjoyed it. I'm a book lover as well with quite a few herbal and herbal medicine books on my stuffed shelves. I do have a number of the books you have as well. Back on December 6th, 1986 the 100 year old cabin I was living in burned to the ground so I lost all my belongings, my two dear dogs, musical instruments and about 250 books. It took me years and years to come to terms with that tragedy. Still I am paranoid about fire and burning down. Heating this cabin with wood, my heat source, I am always leery, trying to be super careful about the woodstove and stove pipe chimney which I clean out habitually. When I was a shepherd, with my goat herd and horses, I spent a tremendous amount of time 'living' outside, shepherding my goats, with my dog, up the mountain, through the forest and nearby meadows. Prior to that long period, shepherding, I was an active outdoorsman. With all of that outdoor living I felt like I really connected with nature. I did learn so much over all those years, about plants, herbs, trees, birds, animals, insects, etc. Back in the 1970's, the real beginning of my 'herbal education' I read quite a few books on plants, biology and nature. Strangely, or maybe not so strangely, I always read that things like lichen and mushrooms had no medicinal value (those books were written by western authors, supposedly educated on the subject). Now I've learned, from reading many other herbal medicine books, watching herbal medicine videos here on you tube, etc. that there is definitely medicine in quite a few lichens and mushrooms. Funny thing, a bunch of that knowledge has been rediscovered (if I can put it that way) from rather ancient sources, such as native people in Siberia and here in North America. As we know now there are particular mushrooms and lichens that have anti-cancer applications as well as treating a lot of other illness, bodily complaints and imbalances. I'm one of those 'practitioners' that use cider vinegar along with cayenne pepper mixed with pure water (I boil and filter all my water as my water source is a mountain stream that flows nearby) as a morning drink. I know the benefits of cider vinegar and cayenne as it does me a lot of good. I don't use that mixture continually, just like I don't use my homemade tinctures, herbal medicine teas (from roots and plant parts) for extended periods. I do use herbal medicine all year round though, switching up my mixtures regularly (from week to week). I'm always wanting to learn more about herbal medicine and I'm so grateful to people such as yourself for sharing your knowledge on the subject. Here we are still in the grip of winter, although it has been a rather mild one this year for the most part. I'm hoping that by St. Patrick's Day spring will be arriving here in this mountain valley but one never knows how it will go. Last year we had so much late snow in February and March, spring was very late. I can hardly wait to get back in the garden again as gardening is one of my passions. Thanks again for your great videos and for sharing all your wonderful books and knowledge. Cheers from British Columbia, Canada!

I am so sorry to hear of that tragedy - I think you referred to it once before. Deeply traumatic and not surprised it has left you leery of fire. I have some Birch polymore mushroom tincturing away here and some Chaga yet to work with. I find them very beneficial. I agree that it is best not to self medicate continually but to also keep checking in with yourself to use the plants you need when you need them and for maintenance. Your life sounds so fascinating, I envy you your past life living out on the mountains and I am challenging myself to work up to doing more living and sleeping on the land here. I would love to see a picture of your cabin and your valley. Do you have any pictures on line on your blog? In the meantime, stay warm and plan your garden xx

Thank you for sharing. I always told my two daughters when they were young you can never read enough. I totally agree with you how a book brings emotions, I still have my book from childhood of The Lion The Witch and the wardrobe. How that fusty old book brings up so many lovely memories of my mum and dad and older brother reading it to me. I actually bring it out of the bookcase now and then to smell the fust. My favourite reading spot is in bed after a nap and I love using a modern LED compact torch (I have a collection of these now with all varying light outputs warm/cool etc) to directly light the book pages and when the books are photographically or artistically illustrated then the images really just jump out at me with basically staggering mesmerising beauty due to these modern lights. It's so incredible that I miss them if I turn the page and it is just a text section and on top of that I am supposedly somewhat colour blind but I sure see a hell of a lot of colour for being blind? I do wish my reading concentration was better though as these days I can't seem to stop drifting off to think of something else other than what I am reading and keep having to bring myself back and re-read the section to see if I took any of it in previously.

Well, you hit the sweet spot for me with this one: books, little people, herbal tea and feral girls! I got my first library card before I started school and took the maximum number allowed out every Saturday. I have some of the ones you mentioned (or showed) and the mention of Wilkie Collins brought back fond memories...such an brilliant writer. And the little people: my father always had leprechuans in his pockets that only we knew about, except for my favourite Aunt Lena who welcomed them into her magical room. I was always aware of the fairy world and am drawn to anything connected to them. Some of the books I haven't yet read but will look for, definitely the vinegar one. For anyone with digestive issues, a tbsp of apple cider vinegar (with the mother) in a glass of distilled water, half an hour before a meal, can be a life changer :).
