@temperanceplaysgenshin Жыл бұрын
I see a good show, I pirate it and archive it. It's probably going to cost me a lot of money in HDDs but it's worth it in the end because there is a very big chance that up to 40-50% of all content will be inacessible in a few years given that a large chunk of streaming services are not profitable.
@thebasketballhistorian3291 Жыл бұрын
THIS is why I'm not too worried about preservation. While I pay (or don't block ads) for all the content I like, I know SOMEONE has ripped and released a copy online of everything being streamed. It's much the same way as how emulators and roms have helped preserved 99% of all old games.

I honestly find the slow and inevitable death of Discovery+ even funnier than I do the death of Quibi. Quibi was dumb for sure but it was never trying to hurt anything. Discovery+ feels like it’s being forced upon us. I can just imagine David Zaslav being like “OK, so maybe I canceled like 18 different HBO Max shows that people loved, and maybe I permanently shelved several different movies even though they were 100% complete, but what if I give them all eight seasons of my 600 pound life? Surely that’ll make up for the fact that the animation community despises me.” And that’s not to mention the countless creators and actors who have been screwed over in favor of Discovery+. Watching Zaslov‘s pride and joy die right in front of him is just about the only sweet vengeance we’ll probably ever see done to that man. Update: we’re starting to see the fruits of karmic Justice. This man has been trying to force live service elements into games that don’t need them and then using the developers as shields for his bad idea, and nobody’s having it. Between nether realm studios and now rock steady he’s done this twice and he’ll probably do it again, But the small amount of money he’s making relative to the price of the games speaks for itself. I feel really bad for the developers but also Zaslav taking an L is always a good thing. Between this and Discovery+, the landslide is coming fast.

Every title I have ever loved, I own a physical DVD format. When I saw streaming services coming out with their own content, I figured getting a physical DVD copy would be impossible. So, if I really like the content on a streaming service and can't get a physical copy, I screen record the show. Sure, it's low tech, and I'm sure there are other ways, but for someone like me who has basic computer skills, it works! And hard drives are cheap now. I would absolutely pay for a DVD or digital copy I could keep, but if the platforms are going to lock their stuff down, I'll find a way!

Over the years I've found myself thinking "where are all the blu-ray TV recorders with HDMI inputs which should logically exist?" I haven't researched it but it's pretty clear there's some basic industry-wide collusion toward 'nobody owns a copy of anything, can't record a copy off a service they're paying for, must continually pay for everything to get access to anything, and it might all disappear at any moment with no compensation, even if you made PURCHASES and not RENTALS'.

When I was young, The African Queen was everywhere. After all, it was an Oscar-winning film directed by John Houston and starred Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. Then, with the advent of DVDs, it all but disappeared. The reason? It was deemed too expensive to clean up and remaster the film, so Warner Bros decided not to. The reason I bring this up is that "content" can disappear for a myriad of reasons. And the more ways we create to distribute things, the more fractured it all becomes. Also, Redbox briefly had a streaming service. It was awful, but it was there.

It was at no point cancelled, the name was just changed to KZbin Premium. I am still a subscriber today. I have not seen an ad on KZbin since October 2015. Also, I am very aware how much someone makes when I watch their video. It is well above what they pay when anyone else watches it. In 2017, KZbin Red’s highest subscriber year they were just under 10 million paying subscribers for $4.99 a mo. Today, KZbin Premium currently has 27.9 million subscribers at $18.99 a month. I love Disney, but can’t ride some rides due to the animatronics. When I was a kid, and still presently, my favorite book was Fahrenheit 451. It essentially talks on how too much technology can be a bad thing. The people trust the government too much and have them too much power. Knowledge is in books and friendship is power. I have always loved owning books and DVD’s because they can’t be changed. I’ve always looked at it as *once it’s on the internet, it’s out there*. That saying. But I hadn’t heard companies had actually scrubbed movies and such out completely.
