Your hypothesis about failure is pretty spot on. "The key to accelerating neuroplasticity is learning to associate positive feelings with failure."

I agree completely. The moment I failed on leg press the first time was the moment my gains really started to accelerate. Not only did it feel great to push myself to my absolute limit, but it removed all fear of failing I'd had previously that I might break my legs or back or something.

I agree with you 100% Patty! I only started enjoying going to the gym when I realized that it helped A LOT with my mental health, so I changed my goal to being healthier and feeling stronger! Now I feel like the aesthetic part is just a bonus and it's really fun to workout :) also the physical changes were much easier to notice since I didn't put that much pressure on myself to change and didn't keep track of it every single day

great advice at 8:20 about making goals less physically oriented. my goals at the gym are not to please anyone, or look good for anyone else. i like to eat. so i like the fact that i can keep eating the stuff i like, and then go burn it off at the gym. and i get better results than a few friends of mine that have that mindset of just wanting to look better

Exactly my concern. You know how hard it is for a NATTY guy to put on muscle like that much less a girl. Everyone in fitness world knows none of these supplements they take actually do much of anything. There great to promote being sponsored .Perhaps creatine but that is it. So PED are starting to be suspect.
@1985rbaek
@1985rbaek 7 ай бұрын
@@MichaelJwolf1984 I don't think she is taking PEDs, she has been training for 8+ years now. Having the diet dialed in and running a good program does take you quite far (you can find quite a bit good programs on the internet for free). With regards to supplements, it is Whey protein, Creatine and a little bit of carbs before and under training, that will be the most effective. Pre-workout is mostly a placebo effect, but it does contain a lot of water, and since 1% of bodyweight loss in water is 10% of performance it is important....

Happy Sunday Patty 💪❤️ There’s some things that bother about going to the gym that didn’t bother me in the past. I like working and moving around. Personally, I’m not terribly concerned about my sex appeal. I’m not bashing anybody else, but your physical health is gonna coincide with you overall (sexual) health and looks anyways. I think of it more as a process and not coming to the gym and being a overly flamboyant douche. I usually want to lift heavy, but I’ll know how much I can do after a few work up sets. But I’m not coming to gym to have a contest of the weights with anyone or show anybody how much I can do. Another thing, you may not encounter this, but at my gym it’s a revolving door of employees. So you could imagine how they act before end up eventually quitting. The guy that was supposed open the gym no showed and I wasn’t able to make it in the morning to workout. What are some things you dislike about the gym?

I love this video because everyone should be training to a level of failure. It's so good for you mentally, because by design, failure training is taking a muscle group where it doesn't usually go every day. The feeling of accomplishment is perpetual. When you take a muscle group to failure, there is this feeling of accomplishment every time. Then being able to do more reps with a weight to achieve failure than last time just stacks on that accomplishment. Or realizing you are so far above your target rep range to achieve failure that you get to move up weight next time. I've always felt getting a number of reps stuck in your head as a stopping point, rather than a general guide of where you want failure to be, is what makes people get bored and stop training. Because the same rush of excitement when you finish a set isn't there.

Sister Patti, a great chest workout to improve bench is a pre-exhaust workout. I do 3-4 sets of10reps incline flies followed immediately with 10 reps incline bench (no break in between flies and bench). I follow this with 3-4 sets of 10 reps flat bench flies/flat bench press. I follow this with 3 sets alternate dumbbell bench holding the static weight in the up position. I do this for a month, then go back to doing benches first. Always see gains in the Bench Press. I also want to tell you how much I look forward to your videos. I really enjoy your virtual company whether in the gym or on the farm. Thanks for the smiles, laughter and joy you bring.

Interesting method. All I did to gain strength back 20 years ago was following the 5x5 system. At my strongest I was doing 5 sets of 5 reps flat barbell bench with 225 and a 1rm max of 305. At the time I was in training for powerlifting, but never really competed. I just really liked being strong.

The bit from 8:10 onwards resonated. I'm older now, in my 30's, so you weren't wrong about the age thing, at least for me. I've fought myself for years trying to change my body in one way or another, and although I was moderately successful, I definitely had an unhealthy relationship with critical self assessment. It was only once I just gave up looking good, because "I'm too old now anyway" and shifted my focus onto health, mobility and trying to feel better, that cutting out drinking, eating clean, doing cardio, getting enough sleep etc, became necessary and easy, because I wanted to, to feel better. Ironically, I'm stronger now than I've ever been, and the weights on the bar keeps creeping up each week. Turns out being healthier and happier has facilitated my original goals better without me even trying. Shame it took 15 years to learn this lesson.

The body dysmorphia part is so true. I spent the last 3 years having the mindset and goals of "i want to look this way", and it destroyed my mental. I put on 30 pounds of muscle (went from 235 to 265) and got close to what i had pictured as "perfect aesthetic" in my mind, but it really hit the mental hard. It made me feel like i was constantly never good enough and it got to the point of i felt like if i wasnt the biggest person in the gym then i would constantly be judged by everyone. It also made me so hard on myself that it was destructive and i would feel bad for wanting to take days off from the gym. While i reached a look that i thought i really wanted, i now realize that when i was 30 pounds lighter i still looked extremely good. I also realized that this cycle would lead to me never feeling good enough and never feeling satisfied. Now i am shifting my training style to get back down to 240 and much better cardiovascular health. Size is cool for a time, but now being 31 i want to make sure my body and mental is healthy.

Hola Patty, I hope you are well!!! 🫂something that helped me in the bench press was The Bilbo Progression for Bench Press It consists of doing 1 explosive set up to 30 reps bench press and then 2 sets of 8 - 12 reps Week 1 first set 30kg X 30 reps Week 2 first set 35kg X 25 reps Week 3 first set 40kg X 20 reps Week 4 first set 45kg X 15 reps Then Week 5 more reps than week 1 Week 6 more reps than week 2 Week 7 more reps than week 3 Week 8 more reps than week 4 And in week 9 make a new record 1RM!!!! .. and of course doing approach series .. Bilbo (Jesus Varela) is the best bench press in Spain 240kg ... much love from me, nice week, saludos ♥️

Reducing body fat percentage will reduce your breast size. Increasing your muscle mass with the same body fat percentage will not decrease your breast size. The increased muscle mass in the chest will better support your breasts.

yeah, womens breast (mammary gland) is mostly surroudad by fat. But you need also muscle to be in tone to hold breast betetr and to not make them to hang

I did such a good job reducing my BP that it went from "this is probably hypertension" to "this is elevated" to "yaaay it is normal" to "wait, stop it is getting too low now" lmao. On a positive note, I LOOK DELICIOUS, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR BEING PART OF THE REASONS I WENT BACK BEEF!!! But now, lemme work on that low BP 😤😤😤 THIS OLD HEART IS GETTING HEALTHIER ONE WAY OR THE OTHER 😤😤😤

My preference over bench is doing weighted push ups (using a dip belt) on the rings. Greater range of motion, you can go as heavy as you need to, don't need a spot and you're recruiting more muscle fibres overall.

I'd say it firms them up and yes they have grown. Also, I liked that you showed how useful the safety bars are if you're benching alone!

That’s why I prefer the Hammer Bench. Not completely a machine, but a lot safer than benching without safety bars.

Patty, you would have had that 185 easily if you didn't do all those " work your way up sets" , also if you wanna improve your biceps & shoulders have an " arm & shoulders day" separate from other days. I know people do " back & biceps" but back being such a huge muscle group you're usually spent by the time you get to the biceps part. Separate arm & shoulders day is the way to go. And btw, your triceps are not "gross", they're actually quiet lovely.
