I loved playing these games, the play mechanic was something new to me but it offered a new challenge that tickled my strategy bone. Thank you for the detailed review and I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did. I definitely recommend this collection.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this game didn't draw some inspiration from, say, Hydlide. But, y'know good. Also, you can actually finish the prequel in less than 6 minutes. It's one of the game's achievements!

Great review, per usual BG. Thanks for explaining the gameplay like no other review I read... And it's just in time for me to snag it on the sale price, so thanks again! Budget Gamer Channel is easily the most underrated indie channel, hands down. It gives me vibes that I used to get from The Backlog channel with Space Kappa Joe Walker who used to write for Nintendolife. I was so sad when he ended the channel, but you have successfully filled his shoes, and that's saying a lot. Keep on keeping on, BG. We love your work, brother!

I absolutely love this game. I played the original title on Mobile a few years ago and completed it twice, but never had a DS to play the sequel, so on the basis of the sequel alone this was on of my first purchases for Switch, and I had no clue about the other two included titles at that time. I don’t know what it is, but more than any other retro-inspired game, this one just nails the the experience and makes me feel like a kid.

It really does! One of the things I wanted to say in the review is that the original just felt totally inspired. Like, it really felt like an adventure, all the way through to the final boss! I never really knew what was going to happen next or what kind of enemy I would be facing. It was really a sublime little indie.

An Android version was later released on April 7, 2020, and a Nintendo Switch version was released on June 29, 2021.

EQ is a good marriage of Kid Icarus and Zelda 2. It's a bit too ambiguous at times concerning where to go but it's still a pretty fun game.

@@RiggsHB I really feel the Zelda 2 vibe. I happen to really like that game. I played it more than any other Zelda back in the mid 90s (never did finish it) so I have strong memories of it. I did not play Kid Icarus but I've always heard great things. I really hope I can get through some of these areas that I'm confused about in EQ.

I played the demo for fairune on the 3DS and really liked it. I'm just trying to decide whether the shmup portion is worth getting the collection or if i should buy 1 and 2 on the 3DS.

If you get it for the $2.99 sale, I'd say it's a steal, but Fairune 1 on GBA... that will be its own great experience.

I’m glad this collection is available on switch, I forgot to buy these up on the 3ds before the closure so I’m missing out on them in my overall 3ds collection though I did play the iOS versions…. At least I got the entire Legend of Dark Witch series on 3ds so I didn’t leave empty handed 👍
