Great video. I personally think that as an industry, you can't have a bigger indictment of the industry as a whole, than just watching this video, seeing an 80mph swing, and then knowing the industry has programmed the purchase of a 4 iron and 3wood as useable clubs - they're not. Skylar's swing (great job) probably represents the heart of the golf swing bell curve, where the last iron should be a 6-iron at most, then 6 & 5 hybrids, then 7-wood, 5-wood, then Driver. Let's make the game easier, more fun & lower handicaps.

Thanks for watching! I also agree there are too many players playing a 3,4 or 5 iron in their bag when there is no need and these other options provide great alternatives - Thomas

Top of my bag goes D, 4W, HW, 2H SureFit at max loft, and 5H. Almost never use the 4W, the H/7W is for teeing off par 3s, and the others get me down fairways when I don't slice into the rough.

I replaced my 5 and 6 irons this year with 26 and 29 degree Mizuno Fli-hi hybrids with the same steel shafts as my irons. Absolute money! I miss off the toe a fair amount, and the hybrids have been so much more consistent and forgiving. It would make a good video if you tried this out. Hybrids as a true iron replacement is a game changer.

Welcome to the channel Skylar, congratulations on a very nice swing👍 Bag composition as well as being Player dependant should also be Course dependant IMO At my home Course, I carry a Driver, a 19 & 22deg hybrid, then my Irons are 6-PW, 2 Wedges & a Putter. But I also carry 4 Driving Iron which I only use for my 2nd shot on a downhill Par5 where I hit a low running stinger shot. Next year I am planning to make notes of which clubs I use and I intend to remove any clubs that I'm not using regularly. PS I walk with a Carry Bag, so any weight I can save is beneficial,

Great points. More links style firm layouts can benefit from a lower trajectory to get more roll, but at the same time if those greens are firm a higher spinning shot can provide better stopping power. - Thomas

My 4 iron is one of my favourite clubs and I generally hit it well. But...I'm not great with fairway woods so I struggle to hit anything longer than 200yds consistently. I've recently added a 4 hybrid (20°) to the bag and so far it's working out good. Only had it a few weeks so more improvement required but generally happy with the addition.

Thanks for watching and the feedback! The 4 hybrid sounds like a good choice to give you more distance than the 4iron - Thomas
@SvingitGolf3 жыл бұрын
I have hard time with the 5 iron. it's is only 6-7 meter in carry between that and my 6 iron. Which is the longest iron in the bag. Thinking on replace it something else. I don't like hybrids. They go left for me. But tested the JPX Fli-Hi with a $-taper lite 100 steel shaft. I have never hit a better hybrid. No shots went left. Just small fades on every shot.

Despite hitting irons very well, being a 4 handicap and having a driver swing speed right at 100 MPH, for many years I struggled with clubs between my driver and my irons, especially when hitting off the ground, due to my combination of swing path and angle of attack. What I struggled with was getting the ball to launch with some height to achieve a decent amount of carry distance. Regardless of whether I used a 4 iron, 3 hybrid or 3 wood they were all going about the same distance and I was also fighting a hook. The solution for me was to trade in a bunch of old clubs that weren’t performing for me and use the proceeds to get clubs with more loft paired with heavier and stiffer shafts with less torque. I now have in my bag a Taylormade SIM Ti 19 deg. 5 wood lofted down to 17 with a Diamana Limited 75 gram stiff shaft which is outstanding off the tee, goes 225 yards with a penetrating low spin flight and produces a very consistent draw. Next is a Tour Edge XCG7 21 deg. 7 wood with a 60 gram Fujikura Fuel Red stiff shaft which is especially good off the ground, goes 205 yards, gives me lots of height and flies straight. One of my favorite clubs now. Then I go to a Tour Edge C721 25 deg 5 hybrid with a KBS TGI 80 g Stiff shaft that produces a very tight draw, goes 190 yards with a trajectory that is very flat. Next is a Tour Edge XCG7 28 deg. 6 hybrid with the same 60 gram stiff shaft as in my 7 wood. It has a very flat face and produces a very high ball flight with a slight fade bias. Goes 175 yards and is great for par 3 tee shots. Recently put a new set of irons in the bag with more traditional lofts, my 6 iron now has 30 degrees of loft which is about what my old 7 iron had. Went with heavier shafts, playing the KBS $-Taper 120 g stiff and my ball flight, trajectory and dispersion really tightened up. The 6 iron goes 165 yards. All of the clubs mentioned, except one, were bought used, or as new old stock. Half of them bought online from 2nd Swing. The ones from 2nd swing were like brand new. Thanks for the great content, excellent service, superb products and inventory.

My longest iron is a 5i, which has 25 degrees of loft, anything lower lofted than that is a struggle. Until 4 weeks ago I carried a 5w (18 degrees), 3h (19 degrees), 4 hybrid (23 degrees) but I always struggled to launch the 3h enough, it would get the total distance I wanted but only because it ran out a bit. I have changed the 3h for a 7w which is just massively more consistent and I now have pretty good gapping from 5i to 4h to 7w (10-11 yards gap). Only problem I have now is that it goes the same distance as my 5w (a 5 year old Epic).
@dstruong863 жыл бұрын
i have the similar setup, however my 6 iron is 25 degrees and is my lowest lofted iron. (170-175 carry club) i play 25 degree 5 hybrid (180-185 carry club) and 22 degree 4 hybrid (190-195 carry club) 19 degree 5 wood (205-215 carry) 15 degree 3 wood (220-225 carry) I only use the 3 wood off the tee as a backup to my driver. Anything 220 yards or more i will simply layup with a 5 wood since my misses off the deck are so much better with it. I have enough speed to play a 4-5 iron, I just don't have the consistency. All of my buddies poke fun at me for having so many head covers but it works for me and my wallet. I am a boggy golfer if that makes any differences. Ill give the 4-5 iron another chance once i get better at striking my 6.
@justinstephenson93603 жыл бұрын
@@dstruong86 If it works for you then it is the right set up. What I find interesting is that I hit my 25 degree 5i the same distance as you hit your 25 degree 6i, I might even be a few yards longer but after that you are a club longer than me - your 5h goes about the distance of my 23 degree 4h and your 5w despite being a degree weaker than mine goes 10-12 yards longer than mine. Just shows that golf is a very funny game
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. What about a 9w? or a 5w replacement. I wish I could convince more golfers into a high lofted fairway wood if they don't hit the hybrid high enough - Thomas
@justinstephenson93603 жыл бұрын
@@2ndswing I have tested the latest Epic 9w against a 7w, my 5w and a 4w. With the same shaft they all carried the same distance! (actually the 9w was 2 yards shorter). A 9w is definitely something more people should try. Only problem now is that with the 7w carrying 195-200 yards, I need to find a club that will do 205-210 yards carry, either that or just accept that if I have over 200 yards to the green that is 2 shots not one

It’s funny, but I was going through the exact same process today. I lost my 4 iron when I switched irons, and now have a gapping issue between my 5 iron and my 4H. I hit my 5 iron 180 and my 4H 205, so have been looking for a 190 club. (As a side note, I dropped my 3 wood because I can’t hit it off the deck for my life, and my 5 wood is perfect. I only lose 15 yards, but so much more consistent and versatile). I tried a 5H, a 4 utility iron and a 9 wood. The 9 wood actually launched the highest, but it went a little too far for what I was looking for (might try taking the loft up a touch and see if I can get the distance closer to 190-195 vs. 195-200). Loved the 4 utility, felt like it would be great off the tee, but worry about any shot from the rough. Will probably settle on the 5H as it went 190-195 with good height. I do think the tester might like the 9 wood as the 4 iron replacement, and should give it a try. Nice video as always Thomas!
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Your comments just reinforce the need for a gapping analysis. Just because you have a 4 iron and then a 4 hybrid it doesn't mean that would be the right gap as hybrids generally go further than their iron replacement. End of the day it doesn't matter what number is written on the club it's the number the club goes . - Thomas

Was stuck between a sim2 ti 5 wood or a sim2 max 7 wood. Went with the 21* 7 wood, I could have adjusted the loft on the 5 and made it a 21* but I really wanted a 7w. As a lefty I had to buy a ladies flex and switch my hybrid shaft into it

This is going out to the vanitycaps that argue they have game for blades and the people who still think all of their irons need to be from 1 manufacturer.. if you don't carry a 4iron 200 MINIMUM -and- hit it well 9 out of 10 shots, you don't have the ball striking capability or ball speed to justify bagging it.. there are better options ask Webb Simpson
