So, is humanism true then?

@low rider Sure, but there's more to humanism than just "loving humans". The humanist manifestos make all kinds of moral statements and truth claims about the nature of the world (just as much as any religion), and humanists are very active in campaigning for these morals and beliefs to be worked into law (and schools). So it seems to me that if humanism is claiming to be true in the objective sense, then it's just as dogmatic as any religion - which is the very thing the guy in this video is complaining about religion doing!

@low rider the age of something doesn't determine whether it's true or not. Can we discard humanism once the humanist manifestos reach 2000 yrs old? Well we can't discard it if it's true. So if it's not true then why be a humanist? If it is true, then why are humanists right and everyone else wrong?

@low rider yeah, I've heard all these atheist talking points against christianity before, that's a separate discussion. I'm only interested in knowing if humanism is true. You said in 2000 years from now we'll have a great deal to support humanist ideas. Do you have any evidence for this? That sounds like a statement of faith.

@low rider thanks for replying, I appreciate you taking the time. I haven't disclosed anything about my beliefs, so I'm not sure why you keep talking about Christianity. I simply asked if (or why) humanism is true (because I have an enquiring mind and I'm on the internet, just like you suggest!). I can see how technology and medicine etc. progresses, but morals not so much. Slavery is still booming in many countries (and that has nothing to do with christianity) - so how could you possibly know that humanism will proven true in 2000 years? Evolution doesnt have a humanist agenda, just survival of the species.
