As a girl who is 6'3", I can promise that nobody in my life has ever told me "you have the build for gymnastics". Literally I did gymnastics as a kid and was tall for my age so they warned me that I probably wouldn't be able to do it for long because gymnastics isn't as doable over a certain height. Also there's a fuckton of things tall people can't do. I never, in my life, wanted to be a flight attendant until someone told me I was too tall to get hired as one, and suddenly that hurt...
@berryghostt2 жыл бұрын
also not to mention that gymnastics is not a sport that a person can just start in high school and suddenly be really good. a person usually has to start very young to even have a slight chance to reach elite. i quit years ago, but it still annoys me when people assume gymnastics is easy.

Same, I’m 6’6 and I don’t understand some of the expectations that comes with being tall. I’m constantly asked “do you play sports?” Or “why don’t you play basketball” and it frustrates me slightly more each time it’s asked. If I liked basketball then I would play, but if I’m not playing then what does that tell you? I feel like my life would be basically the same if I weren’t tall, and sometimes I kinda wish I wear shorter cus it would save me from plenty of pain, both physically and mentally.
@cats19702 жыл бұрын
Yup. I’m not exceptionally tall at 5’9, but was warned I was too tall for gymnastics. At 16 I had to quit (at high level) because my body was quite literally falling apart. The distance between my joints and weight was too much and I ended up disabled. Broke both my feet because impact force is massive in gymnastics! Someone as tall as the girl in the video could try gymnastics, but you’re more likely to get hurt the taller you are. It would’ve probably been better for me if they blocked me from higher skill level competition based on height limits because that drastically increases the forces your body has to handle. Kinda like how a hamster can fall 100 times their height and be fine because they’re just smol.

Who do we trust, beloved childrens books Animorphs, or some garbage?
@alicine-sims8988 Жыл бұрын
I would definitely trust Animorphs, I don't about basketball, but I know they mentioned she could be a super model, and while yes, the ideal model height is above average, there is definitely a max end of that height range too. If you're to tall you'll have a really hard time booking gigs because everything looks short on you, and you don't look right next to the other models. I would not be surprised if gymnastics has a similar sort of ideal height range, where if you are out of it on either side, you will struggle.
@megorly792 Жыл бұрын
I was actually so confused when she implied that she was good at gymnastics because she's tall. I'm 5'11 and can't even do backbends
@jayedgar1384 Жыл бұрын
That and the dad also suggested being a supermodel. An industry where being anything but average height is a huge disadvantage because the clothes aren't made to fit the model. The model has to fit the clothes. So being supertall would disqualify you from anything but shows specifically for super tall people

FYI- some kids do have “babysitters” @ school- but they call them 1-on-1’s, some schools have children on autism spectrum and/or with learning disabilities have 1-on-1 teachers w them.. I also know someone who had a nurse go with him to all of his classes and lunch etc.. he’s a hemophiliac and years ago, people were afraid of it being contagious. So the school made him have this, which unfortunately caused the rest of the students to stay away from him.. So ignorant to think hemophilia was contagious and for the school to insist he had a nurse escort him through school
@clovesbian2 жыл бұрын
i’m a paraprofessional (what you are describing) but we’re not ever called babysitters, and we’re hired by the school. I don’t mean to be rude I just mean that his sentiment about schools not having babysitters is still true because I didn’t even think of my job when he said that, because I would never use that title for myself to begin with. But also I am glad you know we we are! Paras don’t get enough recognition. It’s a tough job & I wish it paid more too.
@limelacroixcan2 жыл бұрын
Well the school was actually right to have a nurse escort him. Even a small cut could cause severe bleeding, so having someone around to keep that from happening/help if it did wouldve been best for his physical health.
@RoxyTBDW2 жыл бұрын
They are NEVER called babysitters. I am on the autism spectrum and have learning disabilities yet I NEVER called them babysitters.
@Mothhhhh2 жыл бұрын
I feel like calling these paraprofessionals "babysitters" for children with ASD is very infantilizing to those children. Even if the child is like three, it still feels demeaning to the professional and child to call them that.
@limelacroixcan2 жыл бұрын
@@Mothhhhh exactly!!!! Coming from an autistic 15 yr old (going into sophomore year if that matters!), I’d absolutely fucking hate if I needed assistance w things and the person helping me was called a “babysitter”. I’m not a 5 year old, and their job is very different from simply babysitting kids! Some autistic people, and those with certain conditions + neurodivergencies, need assistance at school (and/or at home!). This can be for safety, mental wellbeing, academic success, help with doing certain tasks, etc. But the people offering that assistance are not at all babysitters, and the people receiving it are not being babysat!! Thank you for bringing this up!!!! 💖

I am truly grateful for everything Jarvis has done for us as a community, like when he donated 12 Million dollars to pay for my grandmas testicular cancer treatment, let me just say again how grateful I am to Jarvis. He actually saved my life, I was being mauled by a bear when he appeared from the trees, he sprinted towards the bear with the speed only matched by pure light. He was at its throat in seconds, and threw it off a cliff. And don’t even get me started on the hours Jarvis pours into every second of his videos, I just know he pours his heart and soul into every moment. Speaking of his heart, please give me your heart.
