I've had leather suit that was budget but well made with Titanium elbow, knee and shoulder protectors, A class cowhide that cost me less than £300. But when it comes to helmets, I would not wear anything cheaper than £150. I've been through an accident where I could see my visor bending under a huge impact. I could not imagine what could have happened if I had a cheap visor on me that day...
@x66Hawk66x2 жыл бұрын
Price is not the best way to choose. I always use sharp ratings now. The £50 Halfords MYX Motorcycle helmet outperformed some helmets far above even £150+ priced helmets. the general rule of the thumb is not buying from random and often unscrupulous traders, such as the one selling these death traps. another place to avoid is buying on ebay. I have seen many sellers on the bay selling motorcycle helmets, buy also selling nail care kits and hair brushes.

I'd much rather pay for a name brand, quality, helmet for $500 than a $100 cheaper one. You can't save that $400 difference if you're dead!

+ZXKawi hai - motor cycled for 13 years - problem is the fake are branding as real the brands . Seems that all made in china - name brands and fakes - so just how do you tell the difference in the shop - they might simply add the price to the fake as more profit and claim ignorance
@ZXKawi9 жыл бұрын
Always buy from a "factory dealer". They order products directly from the manufacturer and have a licensing agreement to sell their products.
@System0Error0Message8 жыл бұрын
+ZXKawi Not only would some shops buy fakes and sell at original prices but some suppliers will claim to have the original things but would be providing fakes at the original prices. Best way to tell is to give the helmet a hard throw against a rock and see if it cracks. Some brands implement a way to check if its real just like with money, but i have not heard if they have done this for helmets (perhaps you can write to them with examples). Its been many years from world wars with bullet proof helmets and china still fails at making helmets better than helmets 50 years ago.
@ComandanteJ8 жыл бұрын
+ZXKawi TBH you dont need to spend 500$ to get a proper helmet, an entry level 200$ helmet will be perfectly safe if you buy it from a decent brand.
@baronnuuke78218 жыл бұрын
With people like you saying "I'd much rather pay for a name brand, quality, helmet for $500" tomorrow they will make you pay 1200 dollars. Don't trust the price, i know some shitty helmets that cost 600 dollars. Just check the security tests on sharp helmets website

I would have liked to see them compare a helmet brand that has the safety rating next to the one that failed. So we could see with our own eyes if the safety rated brand would pass too.

A short time ago I worked in a Hardware Shop in New Zealand (Mitre 10) that was owned by a Chinese. The very interesting thing to me was even though we had a lot of Chinese customers they would not buy Chinese made products. I used to watch them walking around in the shop and they would look at a product and turn it over to see the information about it. Almost without fail they would put the Chinese products down and choose something else (the preference was German) such as Bosch etc. I asked a Chinese customer that was buying a German product why he had chosen that one. He laughed and said "Quality". After sometime and after analyzing sales the Chinese owner slowed down on the buying of Chinese products, especially anything with electronic components because even though they used to sell sometimes. Invariably they would come back for warranty claims. And before you say that he only brought low quality Chinese products, it was me that did the buying with him and we only chose products which had a very high rating on the websites (Alibaba was our main source) and had to pay the corresponding premium prices.

This is all very well but without naming and shaming, doesn't really help all that much. I noticed any branding on the crash helmets had been removed and the boxes where all the same with no identifying marks.
@samr13219 жыл бұрын
TBH, if you hit an obstacle at that speed, you'll have your neck shattered into pieces regardless of the brand.
@timothykrainik769 жыл бұрын
+Sam Rad Nope, that's what the EPS foam and neck roll are for. The foam crushes to decelerate the head in a more controlled manner and the neckroll will deform to prevent torsional injuries. You'll have one hell of a concussion and perhaps some small compression fractures to the neck, but you'll most likely still maintain your ability to walk if treated properly. I've treated plenty of bikers who have gone over the hood of a car and hit the pavement head first like that. Only 9% of motorcycle crashes result in neck injury, and only 3% suffer fracture. I've personally had a helmeted injury that would have been fatal without, and walked away with only a stiff neck. When looking at studies of fatal crashes, the small increase in neck injuries has to be adjusted for due to the fact that it takes a more severe crash to kill a helmeted rider. There were more riders with no helmet that died in a less severe crash, with less chance of causing a neck injury. Further adjustment also has to be made for the fact that these were almost 30 years old, when helmet technology was far less complex than now. Crashes with the riders surviving showed 22% fewer cervical spine injuries in helmeted riders in the modern age.

Being totally honest here; When putting on my helmet, I do so because it’s a legal requirement and I don’t give a second thought to brain injury. 90% of the time when out on my road legal quad, I don’t put my helmet on and enjoy feeling the wind in my hair. The helmet I bought was the cheapest flip up that I could find. I hate the damn things.

+Edward Griffin My rule of thumb is... Replace helmet if it gets wet while riding " super heavy rain", replace every other summer "salt in sweat eats helmet safety material" and **ALWAYS** replace helmet if it's ever been dropped from a height higher than the very top of your motorcycle "4ft-ish or higher". I'm relieved because seems like most of the people that commented on this video know the Do's and Dont's of helmets. first of all im not supporting cheap helmets. But this is not a comparison they have to show a good example while doing these test. Could arai visor withstand 5kg of sand? maybe? we dont know. On top of that HELMETS ARE ONE USE (CRASH) ONLY ITEMS. You can just test a helmet multiple times even if you drop your helmet from desk you have to discard it these guys simulated 2 crash one after another. If this is the real BSI standarts test britain you have some problems.
@josh37719 жыл бұрын
+d. kongul To meet international standards (Dot, EU, AU/NZ) brandname helmets would have to withstand and pass these benchmarks. In a genuine crash you may have multiple impacts (car, road, gutter) requiring the helmet to withstand more than one impact, most standards call for ~5 impacts. Transferred G-Force is the big one for me, a good helmet should absorb the energy but this one did not. If your going to crash once, increase your odds and spent the extra 50 on a brandname helmet.

@jamakasis189 жыл бұрын
+d. kongul It could be done better, but it's not false in any way. They don't have to show arais, agvs etc, because those passed these test. There are other videos on youtube where they are tested side by side, and quality helmets simply don't break in these tests, whereas chinese fakes disintegrate. Its' not official, but you can get the idea here /watch?v=9LfEFhBelTY Also there is another video from Bike Stop with AGV fake vs genuine side by side and fake yamaha leathers with same results.

+Ali Can Metan The Chinese might say that they are compliant with EU or US standards, but if you test their product & find them to fail the standards, then they see it is a big affront to their honor & your fault for checking. Just look what Mattel had to go through when they tested some toys & found the Chinese were using lead paint, even though Mattel told they couldn't & they said they weren't.
