Your channel is my favorite for fly fishing so far. I’m just now trying to get into fly fishing after a trip to Sylvia, NC, but I’ve been fishing largemouth, bream and catfish my whole life in South Georgia. Any recs on equipment?

Thanks man, I’d look at TFOs NXT black label combo. Probably the best beginner and budget-friendly combo we’ve found out there. Comes with good floating line as well. From there you just need your leader material, tippet, and some flies

id totally agree with slab, Aventik also sells tons of cheap entry level gear that could give you an easy step into the sport!

Been cashing shoalbass on the fly and it’s definitely a challenge. Thanks for posting content on fly fishing for bass. So few people post about them. Great job and keep up the good work

U tie ur own flies? If so, dont skimp one penny on hooks. Regardless if you do or dont, always carry a good hook sharpener with you. I fish waters that are equally craggy. Those rocks can dull ur hooks with the quickness. Also, when you are casting downstream like you were when u missed that biggun 5 min in, I HIGHLY recommend keeping your rod tip low and strip set the hook. Its a hard tactic to get down, it goes against every fishermans instinct of raising the tip to set the hook, but trust me dude, it WILL put more fish in ur net. Its all about the angle the fish is at compared to the orientation of your fly, and giving the hook the time it needs to get into the right angle. Downstream fishing, the fish and the fly both are going to be facing upstream, which is the same direction your hook is pointing when they bite it , so they are far more likely to short strike, and thus more likely to get a boney lip purchase on the hook point. When you high stick the hookset (which is the FASTEST method of setting the hook) but you miss, you are almost always pulling the hook out of the fish's mouth before the point can find good purchase. When u strip set (which is substantially slower at moving the fly, thus giving the fish more time to inhale it), the initial resistance will usually cause the fish to turn away from you, giving the hook more time to get repositioned and pointed toward the corner of the mouth. Strip set lightly at first, and then when you know he's turning away, you drive that hook in HARD. Another hard strip set or even a stiff high stick set will do it. I hope you find this helpful, I really dont mean to be critical, I love watching your videos. I just have been there myself 100 times and when a old timer taught me this I was so grateful bc it REALLY did make a HUGE difference in my bite/land ratio, so I figured I'd keep the chain of good will and knowledge moving forward! Cool video for sure. I wish more smallie junkies made good fly content like this.
