I'm a total UI snob and I'm always so impressed when I see this single-dev created game and how clean yet elegant this game's UI is. It's exactly what I like to see. Readability, crisp and clean lines, great choice of font and overall design. Not to mention the game's systems are impressive as well. This game has been on my Steam wish list longer than any other for good reason. Can't wait.

@@AAhmou The original Dev is the guy who does the UI though. Varzov is for the ship models, Scott Buckley does the music, StutterFoxStudios does everything else with a small team of alpha testers to bounce ideas off of.

I'm buying this game just so I can zoom in from the Solar system view to the right up on the ship. That's one of the coolest things I've seen in a game, next to coming out of hyperspace in Elite Dangerous in VR.

I've been dreaming of a game like this for literally decades. Hope it doesn't disappoint. The jump system reminds of B5 a little bit, at least where the entry/exit colors are concerned. Not sure I like the idea of an instant jump though. Strategically, I think it's better for a Star Trek/Warp Drive system that can give you warning of an enemy's approach. Edited to add: Now, if I could only plug it into a galaxy (like Elite or Space Engine) so I can get my exploration fix again. ;)

The jump isn't completely instant. There's a time period for exiting and it also does take a bit of time to travel through the wormhole itself. Plus you can't jump all the way across the system in one go, even with the longest range drive.

This looks awesome. However, a wee bit miffed that the zoom out overview has gone flat. The old look was truly striking, albeit probably harder to parse visually.

Yeah, the old view blew me away. I hope they can still make it an option, or we can mod it back in or something. The new view is still beautiful however.

I agree, I thought it was an overlay, but it's not sadly. The new view results in better performance for the game though, and better performance means a) more ships before the game starts chugging due to how complex they are, and b) more people across a variety of computers that aren't $3k watercooled monsters can play it.

This reminds me a bit of the "Neblous:Fleet Command" Campaign mode that is currently in development - similiar focus on logistics, even UI that goes into a similiar, minimalistic direction. I'm very much looking forward to both games' futures.

Nitpick: The FTL jump around 6 minutes in is slower than light (for the worst case configuration of those moons the light travel time is ~1.77 seconds). Still faster than other travel options, but not FTL XD

I think the closest comparison I can think of to this game would be Haegemonia: Legions of Iron. It's really dated these days but had some similar concepts around planetary systems and fleet movements. Obviously Falling Frontier looks about a million times better, though!

I noticed that you started to do a lot of videos on different, less known space games. I think you might like game called Between the Stars - it just come out of early access. It is a weird mix of arcade, DnD and RPG with decision making. And it also let you command a huge battleship - something missing from a lot of space games. I am not affiliated with devs whatsoever, just generally like this game.

I wonder if it is FTL or is actually constrained to C - as that jump seemed to take about the number of seconds you'd need to traverse that distance in that area of the solar system at C. So as fast as light but not faster.

The cinematic parts are just to look cool without any realism. In a Zero G environment, there is no reason to launch the ship with full power near the station. It would only damage the station. The launch smoke is wrong. In vacuum of space smoke don't swirl and slow down by air turbulence and air resistance.

I wish Distant Worlds 2 had baby with this. DW2 is too made by a very small team and despite an improvement from DW1, the UI is still little lacking, the graphics are not as good as they could be and majority of content is kinda just recreated from DW1 in a new engine. Even with those deficiencies its blast to play and I have hundreds of hours played myself. While it's not out yet so we cannot judge how well FF actually achieves what is shown in the trailer even things like lighting, sound design and presentation is miles ahead of DW2

I'm a bit disappointed in how the top down view looks over the planets now, just flat plain coloured discs instead of the previous actual 3d planets and moons. Watching even more, all the graphics have been massively dropped. The ui and footage of ships when designing them looks old. The nebulae,space rocks and backgrounds are gone and pretty much just black background now. Disappointing but I'll still try it out cause the gameplay is still my cup o tea
