Why, why, WHY is it that these mods always have so much hard work and care put into them by very talented mod-makers who took time out of their lives to give players a unique and fun new game experience for a franchise that even its own developers dont know how to anymore...only to trip and face plant hard on the pavement when it comes to the story? This mod is clearly a passion project and I wish all the best for the people who made it and wrote for it, but I can't avoid how self-insert fanfiction-y this gets by the final act. (10/4/22: So...this picked up a lot more traction than I thought [and thank you, I very much appreciate it] so I wanted to clarify that I mean no disrespect to the people who put this mod together and certainly dont want to spread any hate or vitriol as a result. Looking further into its development cycle, it's clear there were plenty of hoops this team had to go through to release the final game and like Mike, I agree that from a gameplay perspective, its enjoyable and the effort is on full display. However, like Zach, I was very much not a fan of the later narrative beats and how it all comes together in the end storywise. Again, certainly one of the better overhaul mods out there, just not personally for me. I do hope that these developers will continue to put out great work despite it all, as in a time where negativity really feels like the norm nowadays, that shouldn't drown out one's creative ambitions.)

I think it's largely because these kinds of mods take themselves way too seriously for the setting. They also tried to pile way too much on all at the same time. Not only is the MC the clone of a Vault Dweller, but they also have some super parasite/symbiote in them and are also the plan for Super Mutant breeding and shit. Not to mention all the shit with the raider tribes and the Enclave and the NCR. EDIT: Also all of Kira's bullshit. Like... she is just way too much.

Getting a temporary 20 point boost in a skill when you need it is fantastic for passing a lot of skill checks. It's also great if you know where a lot of skill books are. It can amount to a few free levels worth of skills over an entire playthrough.

Now that the end is reached ima just add a few things here: A: the Enclave definitely existed prewar. They controlled Vault Tec and were responsible for the experiments. They are responsible for the existence of the Mutants and by proxy the Brotherhood of Steel. B: Several of these options were put in as either joke endings or wild wasteland ones. I know the story has its weak points, but you gotta give credit where it is due that the mod author (who unless I'm mistaken began as a team of three before becoming a team of 1 with community support) took all of the existing lore to create a B story that includes all the elements of the major games before it. The tropes and humor are always going to be subjective, but from a mass story perspective this was honestly great in terms of scope. C: Much like The Frontier, this mod is a marvel for the simple fact that it exists and functions. Gamebryo is notoriously buggy as everyone knows, and yet the scale of what was accomplished in this mod over 6 years is nothing short of legendary. It requires you to want to spend time in it as though it is a whole DLC with tons of lore, references, characters with personalities, and tons of player driven choice to create a really solid old school rpg experience. Does it have flaws? Yes and those critiques are valid. But this is a free passion project that is playable and expands the life of the game we all love. This cannot be overstated. For what it's worth I enjoyed my time in this mod so much and I'm forever grateful for its existence. I've actually got a file running which combines TTW, NC, and the Frontier with FPGE and it's an amazing experience.

It was actually quite extensive in the academic, business, and military fields and not nearly as shadowy as the Enclave is now. It wasn't a super secret shadow cabal, it was literally just a Military Industrial Complex.

Actually Zach the Enclave did exist before the war, according to lore of 76 which whether we like it or not, is canon. Pretty much every major corporation from Vault-Tec & beyond as well as most high ranking officials in the government were a part of it. It was the Enclaves machinations that started the great war. Yup the Enclave is basically Hydra in Capt America: Winter Soldier but successful.

Slight correction the robot from the beginning requires 50 science for which all you need is 25 science the vault and a programmer’s digest and it’s exclusive to the path of the scientist which makes science a tag skill until you get the opportunity to change that at the end of the prologue. So that’s not as difficult as your making it out to be.

Kira on my Playthrough has even less dialogue probably cuz i managed to convince her to come with me at the beginning and i didn’t get captured by the raiders. Hence she has no idea about the revelation of the parasite thing, and even after the section with father she didn’t say anything and just quietly followed me, aside from the dialogue of “tired of all this shit” she doesn’t have an existential crisis breakdown in the end. I guess for her arc to even start she has to be captured by the raiders. Oh btw the other companion Jen, Jamie, Eric and Johnny doesn’t even have any dialogue or comments

Having played this mod, and gotten all of the companions at the beginning before. Through cheese. You set up with hyper specific stats, and take literally every chance to gain xp as you can, you wanna level up before going to bed and exiting the vault.

I'm sure the main reason why The Frontier and New California have terrible writing is because of two things: They don't know how to tell a story, and they overburden themselves with the promise of many things to include and then it gets too big and falls on its face. It's not a bad thing to try to concentrate on one thing at a time. The individual story mods in New Vegas are very entertaining and whilst not as big as full overhauls they usually center on a single story thats usually pretty coherent.

18:22 the enclave did exist before the war they were a shadow government, it was explained in 76 when you get into the whitspings bunker. Fallout 2 and 3 also hint at this with some dialog but mostly have you take out the enclave before you can learn much other than they're reminits of the US government.

I think part of the reason that the story felt so disjointed is that Zach accidentally stumbled into two separate story routes when he met the Shi. Like we saw with the revanchist episode the Shi route conflicts pretty heavily with the NCR route so trying to do both understandably muddied the plot line. It also seems like Zach trying to rush through the story left him under leveled which both made the combat more difficult and cut off some of the more interesting dialogue (but the frustration of wanting to be over and done with it is understandable). Don’t get me wrong the writing is still wonky as hell and not knowing which story route you want to take definitely leaves you at a disadvantage But it is at least more coherent and more dynamic then the Frontier’s campaign And it’s a unique in universe explanation of the courier’s origin.

ok the start of the mod was solid story wise, i was really interested in everyone we met and was very focused on getting everyone to escape the vault, what i think the dev team should have done once we reached the safehouse after said escape should have instead of only letting you have one companion from your friend group, it would have been better if the group stayed together till union city then have the survivors set up a like home base and let the player pick who'd they want as a companion instead of forcing one of them on you then just deleting the others. that probably would have opened room for more backstory, character development, and could have even added side quests for them. it would have been cool to help kira get over whatever the hell issue she had with jen.

Ok. So -mike and zach hunted down marko in the mountains -mike got killed -zach created an entire time machine and fucked up the timeline -created the dust timeline. He survived with robo mike and end up using another time machine -that time machine used created another timeline where zach and mike are starting in a vault. -they defeated the entire unity and enclave -and now back to the mojave. .....JESUS. leaving the mojave. Becoming a bounty hunter. Meeting Mark. Survive the appcalypse. Defeated an entire army of mutans. And finally back to Vegas.....please never leave the mojave again
