@@Teenywing Absolutely. Your kids can always make more money (2nd job, sell the car, downsize) but older individuals are really on the clock. What they previously earned is all they have for the rest of their lives. And it makes me crazy when people dip into their retirement fund(s). Even if the parent is payed back they will still never recover financially. We are retired and live a good life. If there is an urgent need, we have given family/friends $100 here, $400 there. But they are irregular gifts, not meant to be paid back. Never loan money to family or friends - either give it to them outright or decline. I know they messed up, but they learned, their energy on the end was incredible, they were greatfull for 3000 $ check, even if they did everything what Gail asked them to do. They deffinitly deserved 5000$.

@@brooklynjones7739 I guess so, I am a girl with a first name that is commonly misspelled, Michele with one l So my thinking is likely in reference that she probably wishes it said the name she refers to herself as, maybe I am picky, but it is in ink

This is the second one of these videos I’ve seen where the family members of the people who were the show have commented. (I’m not replying directly to the family member who has commented here in case they want to not want to be summoned to this video right now.) I always assumed these shows were highly misleading and scripted / edited to create a simplistic narrative that sh%ts on people who are in financial trouble, and reduces their problems to incomprehensible irresponsibility. That narrative allows viewers who are doing okay to feel superior, and to avoid ever thinking about the challenges that lead people into financial problems. The show Prince$$ is even worse for this. The actual financial counselling on these shows is questionable. Bankruptcy is almost never mentioned, even though it would be a very reasonable option for people with the level of debt being discussed here. (I know, because I’ve helped a friend through a bankruptcy in Ontario.) I’ve also seen one episode where a woman re-engaging with an MLM was portrayed as a positive financial move, which was just… horrifying. I have no good explanation for why I have hate-watched so many of these this past month, but if anything, I am even more skeptical of what is being portrayed here than I was when I first started this weird Canadian reality TV binge. B--, if you’re reading this, I’m sorry you’ve had to see so much thoughtless bile spewed at your parents. I’m glad they were able to improve your family’s situation, and I’m sure that they’re not as portrayed on this show. (I’d probably come out looking horrible if someone just took 5-6 hours of footage of me getting theatrically scolded, and then cut together the most damning 20 minutes.)

Kids destroy a house. I don't blame them for not being so quick to do repairs, because there will be holes in the walls again next week.

The participants NEVER got the actual money handed to them in any form. The "check" viewers see is nothing but a participation trophy, of sorts. Gail wrote actual, legal tender checks directly to the creditors after determining which ones needed to be paid first, and then the checks were mailed to the creditors without the couple ever having had any contact with them, nor did they have any say in where the money went.
