Watched 7 people drown in Lake Erie a number of years ago in a bowrider during a storm between Kelly and Mouse islands. It was just too rough for anyone to help. We were taking 6-7 ft waves over the bow and bailing like crazy. They all washed up on the beach later that night. Never ever catch me in a bowrider.

There should be a life jacket for every person On your boat and it should be on the deck. It's the first rule of boating. If the life jackets are stored away there is no time to get them out of storage. I grew up on boats. We had an inflatable raft on deck Every time we took the boat out.

THIS is just one of the reasons I fear being on the lake anymore when there is no longer protocols observed by idiot boaters. I've almost been killed by a boatful of people all watching the skier, including the driver. He was headed right by our boat with its engine off, pulling in a skier from the water. It was one person on their boat who turned their head, saw us and motioned the driver. They missed us by one foot and in the low profile jet boat we were in a tsunami of a wave swamped the entire boat. A cousin in the same situation with a skier at the back of the boat coming in after her ride was sucked into the prop, slicing her whole leg deeply 18 places. The driver thought she was in and started the boat! She was airlifted and was saved due to some fast thinking and wrapping her leg with towels. If you're going to buy, rent or go with others on a boat, do your due diligence, take lessons, don't drink and drive and stay to the right, use flags and never take kids on a tube into the main channel.
