Weirdly, the fact that Peter didn't hesitate to tell her the joke or consider that she might get offended indicates some inclusivity on his end. It clearly wasn't derogatory in his mind, or coming from a place of overt sexism. He just told a joke that people found funny and when someone else asked him about it, he didn't consider their gender as a factor. He just included her as a person.

This is a good teaching moment for men in the workforce: no matter how much the female coworker likes to think she's one of the guys, she's not. She will eventually get offended by something and report you to HR. If a woman wants to join your male friends in some banter and jokes, you basically keep it to things you would only tell your teacher while in grade school.

I know I'm a bit late to this comment but this is so true. Back in 2018 I joined a newly formed IT team at a major bank. Started as an all male team of about 8 people. It was the best work environment that I've been in to date. We joked and had fun all the time while getting shit done. Camaraderie was at an all time high and we'd all go out for drinks every week after work. Perfect balance. 4 months in, we got news that two women would be joining our team in a couple weeks. At the time, I didn't know what that meant, but I could see half our team knew what that meant and were visibly quite deflated. The day the new woman started, everything changed and it got QUIET. Banter started to grind to a halt and management would pull us aside about the most trivial shit to make things more comfortable for our new female coworker. As the years went on, this woman would prove to be a nightmare and report people to HR for the dumbest shit, validating our assumptions about female workplace dynamics correct. There's nothing like being on an all male team.
