So many lives cut short in their prime. Who can say what these people might have gone on to become...how would their achievements have impacted the world if they had lived. What a waste of life.

My mom was a Marshall alum. My family lived in Huntington and some members still do. Through my family members I got to know many of the families involved in this tragedy. As a teen and a young mom, I spent many summers there and I remember my mom calling me crying to let me know all the friends that were lost. I remember thinking about the area where the crash happened and how everytime I flew into that airport I would pray we wouldn't fall off the mountain top. Scariest airport ever. Thank you for this beautiful tribute to this team. Keep on bringing us these videos. You never know who you are going to touch! Always We are Marshall!

Growing up, I heard from my mother about her time at Marshall, particularly about her experience the year the plane crashed. Many years later, I made friends with a co-worker whose father was at Marshall at that time, too. We we're able to recount to each other our parents' stories that they'd told us. During my short time at Marshall, they would shut down the memorial fountain on the anniversary of the crash. "We Are Marshall" was moving for my mother and I because of our experiences at the school and her sharing those stories with me. Thank you for honoring their memories. This is why I visit cemeteries as well. It honors the lives of our ancestors and celebrates their significance.

I went to Marshall and still live in Huntington. I worked at the airport for awhile and I was really moved when fans from visiting teams would come by and ask for directions to the crash site. I actually live about 100 yards from Spring Hill Cemetery and just came in from being up there to watch the sunset. It'll be 50 years tomorrow and even though it happened 6 years before I was born, just being a Marshall alumnus and member of the Huntington community brings it all home. We have a high noon kickoff tomorrow here at home with Middle Tennessee. We're undefeated and #16 in the country and covid be damned because I will absolutely be over at the stadium tomorrow to cheer on MY Thundering Herd and the 75.

I have seen the movie "We Are Marshall" so many times! If I'm not mistaken I think the scene where Matthew McConaughy spoke to the new team at the cemetery was filmed at the actual monument site. There is also a fountain honoring those lost on the Marshall University campus and every year on the day of the crash they turn the fountain off in remembrance. And many family members and friends attend that event and lay a rose on the name of their loved one that is etched around the fountain.

Is the Hillcrest Cemetery very close to the crash site? (Relatives buried there, their son attended Marshall University) think it is inline with the end of a short runway and higher than the airport that would not be the cemetery where the players were buried, that one I think is close in to Marshall campus in Huntington itself (the airport is a ways (West?) of Huntington and the terrain there is caused by the Ohio river and the Big Sandy coming in and another stream also digging down a flood plain where oil refineries and./or tank farms are located also the downtown cemetery might be owned by the same Park Authority that owns the Ritter Park Rose Garden which used to be a national class rose garden ran by a Truman Watts. I think he retired several years ago.

The NTSB Aircraft Accident Report NTSB-AAR-72-11 gives a location of 38° 22' 27" N latitude and 82° 34' 42" W longitude. 38.37416, -82.57833 Two online "charts" I saw show a crash site some 1500 feet to the SW of this spot, but after researching numerous different sources, I have reason to believe the NTSB location is correct. The DC-9 was nearly in perfect alignment with the runway, but tragically too low.
