What a surprise treat to find out that Harvey Keitel's first acting gig was as "German Harvey." He is truly one of the greats of all time. His role in Pulp Fiction (as The Wolf) was short, but very memorable. I especially loved the running gag about the gourmet coffee. Classic comedic scene. Thanks for what you do. It is always a learning experience for me.

As you mentioned, this is easily one of the best episodes of season 1 and in my view, it's also in my top 5 episodes of the entire series. It's strange to me that I didn't notice him, though he doesn't speak in the roll. I did notice Charles Napier make a very brief appearance in another episode but he said something and I recognized the voice lol. Another great catch Rick! John Banner himself made a quick unspoken cameo on an episode of "The Andy Griffith Show." And of course Larry Hovis, William Christopher, Parley Baer, Ruta Lee, and Hal Smith were showcased on AGS and HH. The strangest TV cameo perhaps ever was when Werner Klemperer popped up on a "Batman" episode on a different Network (ABC), in a different Decade (The Sixties), and Batman greeted him with "Hey, Colonel Klink!"🤔😂🤣😂📺B.W.

German Harvey was a surprise to me. Brought back some memories of actual cameos: Leonard Nimoy showing up at the end of a Carol Burnett sketch, in makeup and wardrobe as Spock; William Shatner in a Mork and Mindy scene, and one of my favorites, Bruce Lee sticking his head out the window of a building being scaled up the side by Adam West and Burt Ward... yes, a Batman TOS episode and all three were in costume. Un-fortunately for us old guys, jogging your memory doesn't count as exercise.

As to this episode, it remains my favorite. John Banner nailed it in so many way. After the big reveal in the barracks, I always find myself watching for when he turns to leave and walks into the door frame. Not sure if that's how the scene was directed or it just happened and he went with it. Either way, it was priceless!

Is it difficult to use video clips of the shows you cover when describing scenes or characters? To see and hear these clips would be great, but not sure how difficult it is to use them in your work, especially with copyrights and all. Just curious.

It was always funny to me whenever Schulz was made up to be or acted more like a more authoritative figure than he really was! Another example was when they were talking about their "post war" plans and he speaks about the Schotzie Toy Company and when Klink praises it and asks Schultz about it he remarks "...why not?! I own it..!" Haha!

Hogan's Heroes is my all-time favorite series. Watched every Saturday night at 7:00 when it aired. Then in syndication on channel 26 in New Orleans. They had a double feature each weekday. I believe from 5:30 to 6:30. Me and my dad would watch daily. German Harvey.

sometimes people forget that big stars start out as unknowns and this is a prime example of it, you can't get any bigger than Harvey Keitel - I loved Harvey Keitel in all his movie roles like Pulp Fiction, Taxi Driver and Bad Lieutenant, but I think my favorite Harvey Keitel role is on TV in the American version of "Life on Mars"

Many to become famous actors started out in this manner. There were a few in the 1960's TV show Combat. Ted Knight played a German soldier in at least three, Robert Duvall in at least two. James Caan played in one as a German sergeant. Through the whole show he spoke only German. As the show had a long run, I'm shure there were many others that became well known stars. But those three come to mind.

At 1:41, there is a black actor behind and to the right of Sgt. Kinchloe. That uncredited actor is in many background scenes throughout all the seasons of Hogans’ Heroes. Do you know who he is? I have never been able to find out.

Hey Rick! Great video as always Sir! I was a year & a half old when Hogan's Heroes first aired on CBS in the fall of 1965. I remember watching the series in the early 70's as a kid. I have all 6 seasons on DVD now, every episode ever aided. Maybe You could answer a question? There were 2 regular uncredited Actors, 1 black & 1 white, who were in almost every episode. The Black Man spoke once, asking," Who told You?" to LeBeau in an outside formation. The White Man never spoke a word. Usually They were fellow POW's in Hogan's barracks, but sometimes the White Actor would be dressed as a German Guard standing behind Colonial Klink during formation, or at the top of the steps as a guard outside Klink's Office. Just curious who those 2 Actors were. Also, did Robert Clary double His role also as a guard in the Tower during the shows intro before each episode? Thanks for any info You can provide!

German Harvey,As a kid in the 60's,I remember watching Hogan's Heroes on Sunday night, especially if we were at my Pap and Gram Stoner's house, especially when my cousins were there, My Gram on her rocking chair,all the other adults sitting on chairs or the couch,and us kids on the floor in front of their old, black and white Tv. I didn't not know that, but that's because I've never seen any of his movies. One of those soldiers is that Dennis Troy? He was never credited on Hogan's Heroes, but I've seen him and then he's been on M*A*S*H and credited most of the time then.

This pretty cool. I remember him from "National Treasures", "Red Dragon" and "The Irishman", interesting to see his roots. XD You should do an episode finding Robert Crane Jr's cameo in Hogan's Heroes. According to him, he was an extra on a few of the episodes, either playing as a background POW or a German guard. Couldn't find any photos on google, but that's what he said in an interview.

I know the other two (Commando 1/Captain Hockenberg and Commando 2/Lieutenant Smithberg) are played by James Beggs and Victor French, but the third? I don't even have a clue.
