I actually love this. Unlike Nick, Carl and Travis, John didn't die too soon and they let him show off before killing him. Killing important and loved characters is a good thing cause the show needs tension and suspense. It is heartbreaking. The important thing is how and when. As someone who wasn't part of the main cast originally, John lived for a lot of episodes and left an impact.

I can agree with this, but with that logic, Carl had plenty of time to justify getting killed off. Really, the most important thing is execution of it in the story. Had they killed Nick on top of the dam, it would've allowed his actor to exit the story in a way that didn't feel completely out of character. And really, they should have just had Madison get abducted like Rick was if they were going to eventually bring her back. Feels like they had no plans to rope her back into the story before randomly announcing it in a talk show.

Out of all TWD deaths in their universes, this one really hit me the most. The way it ends for John, how at the very moment of his "confirmed" death when lifting his head up. You (the viewers) instantly remind of ALL John's reminiscence about his father, his grief with Janis, his "farewell' with June and at his last hour, with his wife, who's a nurse couldn't treat him in times 😢. There's just this beauty, poetic and tragic in it. R.I.P John Dorie, you're a good man and will forever be missed ❤️

See, I saw a guy who had a rod pierced through his stomach and lived all day even hallucinating and seeing dead friends. He blew up the bridge, being very close to the explosion. He ended up in a river full of hungry walkers. He hasn't drowned, he hasn't been bitten, and the wound hasn't healed, plus he could have got infected, and yet DUDE is alive. If I hear that someone has locked himself in a stadium with a horde and set fire to the hay, it does not mean that he is DEFINITELY NOT ALIVE.

I guess nobody actually researched as to why John died. His actor decided in Season 5 that he wanted to leave, and he was talking to the showrunners about it since. He's decided to move onto other projects (army of the dead for example) After I learned this, I understood that while yeah, it was a shitty decision to make; all good characters do come to and end.
