To me this album is a masterpiece of production design and historical reference, all put together to encourage people to look up the samples and originals, paying homage to ballroom and vogue culture. The vibe is out of control. It’s like every party you could ever want to go to in one album. 🪩🔥 I never understand the Beyonce hate. Like her or not she gives *quality* *music* of cultural and historical significance. She’s insanely talented at a level few achieve and it cannot be denniiieeedd. I feel bad for anyone who doesn’t love to dance.

America has a problem has a really… confusing? situation? The song she’s sampling is comparing the American cocaine problem of the 80s/90s to loving a white woman that you know is bad for you. Effectively, beyonce is doing the opposite in her track, as she compares a romantic partner she has to a crack addict and also, in the process, calls herself an American problem. The problem she causes in America (I.e. the influence she has on the American population) is similar to the way that crack affected black populations in the 80s/90s (I think????). I guess the difference is that Beyoncé’s influence is positive, but it’s addictive like crack (her influence is also perceived badly by conservatives, in the way that low-consequence drugs like marijuana are). It’s a bit of a messy metaphor, but I think it was intended to be really loosely interpreted.

CUFF IT sounds deceptively simple in it's attempt to be a Disco earworm, but how even that track stands out for me is how clean the mix is and the (pretty much always) amazing vocal performance. This is an example of why I prefer this album to pretty much anything from artists like Lizzo, who has also done disco tracks that I think aren't mixed or performed as well or with as much personality.

And Snail Mail's Valentine had a story he liked and still got a 5/10 iirc. A throughline can be nice but it's by no means required.

Maybe for the song HEATED which was co-written by Drake. Either than that song, none of the others really sound like Drake.

I thought this was, like, a strong 7. Very good beats, smooth transitions, not a huge fan of the lyrical focus which got repetitive and I felt it dragged a bit as well

Who the hell dances While reading the lyrics mtfcka. But i love the lyrics tbh, its about embracing yourself, loving yourself, its self empowering because everyone is unique. one of the best theme than others made this year tbh.

@@TronTheTramp i think they meant all that stuff about being yourself, its a very common 2020s discourse that may not bring anything that fresh to the table, even though she executes it pretty much better than anyone i do agree the lyrical themes could have been a little more varied

Somehow i dont love the lyrics in some of the tracks in this album. They just seem a bit awkward to sing in a sense that some hooks dont really make it natural for audiences to sing. Not sure I got my point across but yeah i'll need a few more listens, maybe i'm just not feeling it right now
