You have to remember regular people aren’t music nerds & know almost nothing about music so even basic terminology about song structure or mixing on can sound foreign/intimidating, & the term “music theory” doesn’t have much of a specific meaning besides “any music discussion that goes beyond saying ‘I like the beat of this song’ or ‘this singer has a good voice’.“

@@davidcazares7441 i believe a 10 is a really subjective thing, of course first of all it has to be really good, but some things will resonate more with some people and in different ways. In my personal experience some of the albums i consider 10's are actually flawed and not perfect, but something about them just clicks with me, it's because they are imperfect in one way or another that they are perfect for me.

giving something a "perfect" score should be scarce. most media you consume, visual and auditory, is more than likely just going to be average with it being sometimes terrible, and sometimes amazing. and even when its amazing it's still rarely approaching perfect. the fact anybody would expect perfect scores given out more often just reads to me like somebody who (not to sound like a pretentious snob) doesn't actually like analyzing what they listen to but rather passively consumes content. not to say you necessarily need to deeply analyze everything you consume, I certainly don't, but that kind of mindset doesn't even seem to consider that you should maybe think about why you like something and the nuances of the media you consume. just seems to me like somebody misunderstanding what goes into analysis and reviews.

Piss Warm Take- I really believe that Mindless Self Indulgence should be considered as Proto-Hyper Pop. Though I agree that sonically their sound is not exactly in the same vein of the likes of 100 Gecs Etc.. But they truly share the concept, and the general spirit, of making super melodic hook-heavy pop songs and then take it apart and bring it all to a wild and quirky extreme while blending as many genres as possible, which are generally the same genres Hyper Pop is blending today- Hip Hop, Metal and Heavy Electronic music. With all the recent talk and rising popularity of the genera I don't think I ever heard them being mentioned.
