FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. (C) Fox

I've always like the fantastic four, ever since the 70's when I was a kid. I like all 4 characters, they have interesting powers and a very cool dynamic. I don't understand why they keep fucking up the movies.

***** Excellent comments the both of ya. Producers and writers who do not love the comic book artform are put in charge of making a film based on a comic book and they churn out a product instead of a story. And since they're Hollywood and not some cheesy little comic book, they can make it better - they have lots more money! And then one or more of them get timid about the material and you end up with "V for Vendetta Lite". Have you ever seen a really good Superman movie? Should be a no-brainer, right? I have never seen a good Superman movie - they spend the first halves on Superman's origin. And I have never seen a good Batman movie - just less worse Batman movies.I bet you that you, me or sevlevboss could pull a comic story out of our memories that would be a better adaptation.

Saul Dagenham I would also say in this case it's because Trank seems to have hated the comic lore, he did everything he could to distance himself from the actual fantastic four.

***** "Mr. Robot" really bottomed out quickly, the episode with the de-tox dream sequences was my last. An hour of Rami Malek blinking and gaping is just way too much for me - and I like this actor, he was great in "The Pacific". And then there's the Christian Slater factor - any Christian Slater is way too much Christian Slater.

tropicAces That's not actually a sign one way or the other. Some actors don't watch pre-screenings of their films. What concerned me more was the film being held from the critics until two days before release coupled with an embargo until the day before. Basically its the studio telling everyone they are afraid of what the critics will say when they see it.

Another rule of thumb, movies that should be 3 hours are 1hour and a half, and those that should be hour and a half are 3-4 hours. Not sure it could have helped but sounds ike MAYBE it be better if they didn't rush through the good stuff.

wolf wing I pretty much agree on what Roger Ebert said that "No Good Movie is Too Long and No Bad Movie is Short Enough." Good examples for me are Captain America: The Winter Soldier and this. Captain America is 2hrs 15mins, I felt like I was watching it for 1hr 40min. Fant4stic is 1hr 40min, I felt like I was watching it for 2hr 15min.

DamienNightwing Well part of the problem is that Fox made 3 of those movies and they neither understand nor care about the characters. Hell, they don't care about the X-Men either. If it wasn't for certain directors all X-Men films would have been like the 3rd one. Of course, I haven't liked any of them so take that for what you will.

Reed Richards and pals take on teleportation, superpowers, other dimensions and megalomaniacal hybrids in this new version of that beloved classic, Fantastic Four! Holy crow, why? It’s taken for granted these days that the previous two Fantastic Four films had lots of issues and are generally considered sub-par, but that is no actual need for the movie-gods to try and remake the thing into this, which is actually being rated lesser than the likes of Batman and Robin. (That is an achievement, just not a good one.) So let us gird our superhero-loving loins and dive headlong into this. So Reed as a kid is totally adorkable and, even at that age, wants to be able to teleport man from one place to another. This earns him one lonely friend, a solemn young man fascinated by Reed’s genius, named Ben Grimm. Reed’s homelife isn’t exactly satisfying either, so Reed (Miles Teller) and Ben (Jamie Bell) spend years in Reed’s garage, working on perfecting his teleport design. After an abortive science fair demonstration, next thing you know, Reed has some kind of internship at Baxter, along with Sue Storm (Kate Mara) and her brother Johnny (Michael B. Jordan), and Professor Storm’s protégé Victor Von Doom (Toby Kebbell), where they take Reed’s original working design and make it big enough to start trying to transport actual people to another dimension. But then - hang on - they get the teleporter thingamie all up and working and then get informed oh no, it’s time to hand all our hard work off to NASA and fade into obscurity - because after all, no one remembers who built the Apollo 11: just who rode in it. The fellows fall to drinking, to drown their disappointment and Reed decides, “screw it, we’re going anyway,” calls up Ben and insists that Ben go with them, and off the young men in charge of changing our futures go to an alternate dimension! Oy vey. Sue happens to be at her work station at the time and is frantically trying to get the guys back, while elsewhere on some other planetoid or whatever, Reed’s all like we have to explore this new territory. Inevitably, bad stuff happens and they end up leaving Victor to his would-be fate before escaping, kind of, back to earth and being transformed by their newly gained powers in the ensuing explosions. Whew! That’s the first half of the movie. How Did We Get Here: All the relevant background. Or is it? A great deal of the classic Fantastic Four storylines are either glossed over or ignored entirely. The known rivalry between Doom and Reed, Reed and Sue’s romance, Johnny’s rebel attitude, and yes, any real sign of life or individuality in Ben Grimm, these things are lacking and because there’s nothing new and different to fill those plot holes either, the characters (that we already know and love) come across as wooden and unfeeling. The movie is attempting to coast on name recognition and little else recognizable to the created FF world, which would be fine, except in instances like this you have to do something with that recognizable name to make it your own, and this FF simply doesn’t. At this point, when we catch up to our would-be heroes, it’s been a year and they’ve all been training with their newfound powers. All except for Reed, who most people think ran away like a coward and is now hiding out somewhere. Ben’s been sent out on numerous military excursions, where he does the work of several squads of men and a few tanks besides, killing bad guys and serving his country and whatnot, nevermind how it makes poor Ben feel. Sue’s been practicing appearing solid and making shields and the like, and Johnny’s learned the flame-on, flame-off tricks, and is wanting to go into combat like Ben. And while the movie has a nice little montage showing the usage of various powers, they all still come across as just so young. Practically still teenager-like in many cases, which just doesn’t help anything. Dr. Allen (did anyone else notice that this is actually Mister Blue? Figured I’d ask) is insistent on another jaunt to the alternate dimension, this time of course with the super-powered gang and some help, and - gasp and surprise - they discover, or get discovered by, a silvery-green being that wants to eat earth for this other alta-verse planet, calling himself simply of course, DOOM. (That ultimate DOOM pose Victor makes when he states his new name is one of the very few epic scenes of the entire movie.) People are chased around, explosions happen, and the fab four harry Doom back to the alterna-planet for the final showdown. Wait. That’s it? Seriously? The entire climax of the movie was in the alterna-dimension, meaning the movie folks get away with tons of CGI for this ending, and damnit to hell, it shows in every frame. Not a single character, none of the Fan-Four (who are in the freaking title of the movie, after all), the lone pathetic bad guy, even the supposed upright and aboveboard adults who want to change humanity for the better, got the love and attention they truly deserved. All the actors tried, oh how they tried, to breathe life into a limp and practically-dead-already storyline, it isn’t their fault the film utterly failed. Fantastic Four 2015 is indeed a failure, but at least it serves as a poster child for why third-try remakes are a horrible idea.

The characters and story is A LOT better than the previous F4 movies. The way they get their powers is a lot more tragic and serious whereas in the other one they're like "welp. we got powers now". I also liked how SOMEONE finally suggested "maybe Victor von DOOM can't be trusted".

I think that Josh Trank is the first part of the movie that you are talking about, not boring and kind of interesting but as soon as the last 1/3 hit you can see when the studio took over and it goes way off the rails. So I think people are giving Trank a bad name but you have to think about the fact that where he played a part it made since it's where the studio decided they just needed a place holder to keep Marvel away that the movie takes the EPIC nose dive that it does

I keep hearing Fox only made this movie to maintain the rights. But nobody can explain why a studio would covet the rights to something it itself is running into the ground. Do they need the rights because they plan on putting the effort into an actually well made FF movie down the road? If so then why release crap like this to totally destroy the FFs name in the eyes if the public? And lose millions of dollars in the process? It makes absolutely no sense.

Why can Marvel & DC can't do a proper Comic book story without ruining it sometimes by changing the entire origin story, specially with the Fantastic Four. the 2005 had that same problem like this bloody remake. having Dr.Doom once more having him on the same ship. when only the 4 of them are supposed to get their powers, plus Reed & Ben are not young guys they are in their 30's or 40's with Sue like in her early 20's with Johnny her teenage brother. I would have prefer for them to do another Fantastic Four sequel to the 2005 original but done right. hope Marvel soon regains it.

Obviously, much was changed from then on as the beginning of the film was *not* filled with exposition, but the end of the film *was*. Either the studio had no faith in the ability of audiences to understand what is going on or much was changed and the exposition is there to substitute for scenes they didn't have time to finish. Bad reviewers just keep honking on about superhero movies supposedly "running their course". However, "superhero" is *not* a *genre*. Captain America: The First Avenger is not a superhero movie. It is a war movie. Cap 2 is not a superhero movie either. It's a political potboiler. Thor is medieval fantasy. Fantastic 4 is a horror film. I've never seen a superhero film that's a science fiction horror film before. It's no worse than any of the other Fantastic 4 films before it. People hate it because it's not incredibly like the comic, but I really do't care too much about that. I'll say it has flaws, but I'm not saying it's the worst superhero film ever made, either. It's not even the worst movie of the last year as that honor goes to Amazing Spider-Man 2. If you think it's worse than Batman & Robin, watch that movie again, then post your glowing review because I think the overly bad reviews are a manufactured product of Fox--blaming it on Trank when they are very obviously the ones that shat the bed.

Future note to future Marvel sales of intellectual property. 1) don't and 2) if you do, put a clause in there that not only do they have to make a new movie every seven years, but said movie can't suck.

The best part of the movie, is the Deadpool trailer before the movie. PG-13 Deadpool Trailer is better than this thing.

Dagon Ball Z gets away with nothing happening all the time. If all three of you put all the good you guys got out of the movie together that's the movie I seen. It's a science fiction horror flick. The setup was long but not as boring as Ang Lee's Hulk. Doom's look could've been better and some of the CGI could've been better but overall I loved the movie. The good thing is you guys on KZbin have taken over for Siskel and Ebert. That just means I know I'm gonna like it when you guys trash something.

Something about a super hero movie getting trashed gives me a smile. Possibly because I think super heroes in generally are totally lame.

have seen so many great reviews for this film, all of which say it was bad, that it makes me want to go and see it. i think cinemas should give free tickets to terrible movies for this reason.
