FAQ Do Bats Live in the City? Or do they like the Country?

I can't say how many times I've been asked if bats live in the city. In this video I explain the differences between city bats and country bats. You may not be aware of just how many bats are living around you, even when you think they are not.

I laughed the whole time good humor haha. Im in Pensacola Florida and Ive lived in view of the Austin congress bridge bats and even in San Marcos Texas at Texas state university as a freshman in dorm the parking garage behind us was also full of bats and they keep the garage bottom floors closed because the guono is insane. You can smell it aroung the campus when they around and active and it is easy to get used to actually lol.. I was just thinking how i would love to help get some bats around where i live now my dads house is a perfect location and i may even try other places.. do you know if the bats in this area in Pensacola are ones that make big broods or is it possible to lure them or plant them here lol. We got plenty of bugs here and hot too.. the bats are here but not in big numbers

Just meant to ask if any info or tips for trying to help the bats in Pensacola fl . There are country farm areas and beach and bay in 30 minutes of each other where i live so i hope there are some info you may pass to me

Yes, there are some species there that roost in large colonies.

Helping bats by installing bat houses in good locations for them is one aspect. The other is educating friends and family about why we need bats and should be protecting them in the environment and not trying to exterminate them. They eat bugs, we love bug eaters!

There are a lot of mosquitoes in my neighborhood mostly due to a hoarder whose junk collects water... Would you suggest I get several bat houses to put in different locations? I've never attempted this before but it seems to be a logical solution... Thanks!

Bat houses for flying insect control is always a great idea. Just understand, bats do not target mosquitoes, they target flying insects in general. So, while they are PART of the solution do not expect bats to spend all their time cleaning on only mosquitoes. As for your neighbor, and I know you shouldn't have to do this, but buy some mosquito dunks or bits and drop/sprinkle them in the places water is standing. For $20 you can treat a considerable number of places with the bits and it seems to last all season. It won't stop mosquitoes from showing up, but at least you can reduce the mosquito breeding grounds thanks to your neighbor.
