I have a bat house in a popular tree about 15 ft up facing south with woods in the back ground but clear to the south. Is this a good location? I haven’t any takers as yet. It’s been up since fall last year. Thank, I enjoy you channel!

Trees are not the best place for bat houses, but sometimes they can be successful. Bats prefer the temp between 85 and 100 degrees, it should get sun first thing in the morning and keep it until after noon. The bat house should also be painted a shade of color (varies by location) that allows it to head up appropriately. If it is getting shade, this could be the problem. In a tree, predators also tend to have easier access. If bats do not feel safe, they will leave a roost. It doesn't take too many of their buddies being eaten by snakes, owls etc... before they decide a roost is too risky. do bats leave the house off light outside or temp. can you place houses on light poles is my main question

Lights themselves do not seem to bother bats. However, you should only hang a bat house on a pole you own or have permission to use. i.e. don't put it on a power pole or phone pole that you do not own.
