Yes, you're absolutely right, another excellent looking RPG, and a lousy one at that, that we discover on this console. I still discover games and RPGs almost 30 years later, it's just crazy this super nintendo. I won't have the right words to say how much I love this console.
@jdelix Жыл бұрын
This is the most under-appreciated game on the SNES. I am so happy it was finally translated, because it's easily a Top 5 JRPG on the console. How they managed to make a 16-bit world feel so lived-in and immersive is just amazing to me. You could have told me this was a PS1 or Saturn game and I would have fully believed it.

I tend to agree, such an underrated RPG that it seems like no one has played.

This game is so darn good that i feel it really is a crime that we did not get it here in North America at the time it came out, because i suspect that had we did get it back then, it would have rivalled games like chrono trigger and FF6, that's how good i think this game is. Really regrettable that it took this long for us to enjoy it here. That's just my opinion.

The cinema cut style scenes make sense with the series starting on the PC-Engine. Especially the CD games had been known for their use animated and voiced cut scenes.

So you told me to wait until I watched this one and you were right...this game looks amazing. You have now introduced me to so many SNES RPGs I didn't know existed. To be fair, they were all Japan only but still. I have them all downloaded and the translation patches and on my SNES Classic. Once I'm done with the games I'm currently playing I'll be onto all these you've made me aware of. Thank you good sir. The combat is reminiscent of Phantasy Star 4 (at least the view). Hah, I typed this out right before you said it in the video. Perhaps I should watch the whole thing before commenting? Do you know why more games didn't use the special decompression chip? I mean if it is there, why didn't they make use of it?
@Xygor3 жыл бұрын
Thanks again for your response. I think the reason the chip wasn't used very much is it made the cartridge quite a bit more expensive to produce, and it was at the tail of end of the system's life so more companies were devoting more to the expanded media the CD-based systems offered.
@toolman47453 жыл бұрын
@@Xygor Ah I misunderstood. The chip was in the cartridge, not the SNES itself.

@JohnCrawford1979 Жыл бұрын
The other thing with storage was more about the limitations at the time. Today, you could make a cart filled with several terabytes worth of storage and still have room for and special hardware enhancement chips. Granted, modern game consoles are basically gaming PCs built with pretty much everything needed - until the next major updates in graphics, etc come along. Nowadays, cartridges of some type, might be more practical in as much as all the data can be stored in it, and would have the most direct access to the CPU, next to an internal consol HD, but without needing to worry about the limitations of the internal storage in a consol HD. For an internal consol HD can only hold so many games, plus internet downloads can take a long time with massive sized games. Among the reasons why not to reconsider cartridges are chip shortages, the distribution centers needed to mass produce, and it's easier and more profitable to control a game's development through online subscriptions and selling updates and DLC, etc.

That time mechanic seems interesting, something like that could easily be abused on Windows where you can change your date and time with no problem, but on consoles that don't allow easy time adjustment it could be used as a game feature. Imagine a game where night and day cycles are tied into the real world, and if you get into the game during night spooky monsters appear :D
@galloe89333 жыл бұрын
@REBL 1 Dude, I heard about that one. I get that it could be frustrating but I also feel like a gimmick is gimmicky and the GameBoy or GBA had been made for that kind of thing. Maybe I'm wrong but I think a lot of us here can actually remember wanting the GB printer when it came out or getting one. That thing was awful, fun but awful. In Japan they had a frigging fish finder cartridge contraption for the dang thing, and it may have been (I have NO proof beyond my own assumptions) but it may have been why we ended up with electronic fishing pole games back in the late 90s. Far East was just dipping its methodical toes in the idea of having an onboard time keeper because how crazy would it be if your game, the system or both knew what time or date it was. Over what could seem like a lifetime from when Far East was released its' gimmick(s) may have lost their cool factor but why talk shit about the anatomy of a fossil? I told my Sega Saturn it was the latest date it could be, and let me tell you that the Saturn was Y2K ready. Time keeping for games and their systems was a big deal all that time ago... Now your vacuum knows its own birthday, and the idea of video games that keep track of time is silly. This was a very long and windy way to say that I think what it did was and is actually kind of cool in a "What's your favorite dinosaur?" way.

@@aweigh1010 Its the type of design that can be annoying for some people, but if you have a lot of disposable time (or are a casual player who doesn't care about missable content) then there's nothing else like it. A world that reacts realistically, with a real-time day-night thing going on, is very good for immersion.

According to Stone Age Gamer's compatibility chart, there are only five Super NES games that do not work on the SD2SNES/FXPak Pro, and unfortunately, this is one of them. It's because of the SPC7110 chip.

Its one of those ideas that were prevalent historically in Japanese folklore, and many Japanese developers take inspiration from those same sources, so naturally similar concepts show up time and time again in different games!
