I like to think of it like the suburban guy in Stargate who saw a good portion of the series go down through the communication stone. The guy woke his wife up in the middle of the night crying when Daniel Jackson died, and since she thought the SG-1 team were just her husband's delusions she got him admitted to psychiatric care. While Jack O'Neill saw the dudes suburban life through the stone and just thought he was daydreaming about having a boring normal life. Imagine that sort of link, but the guy's a bard and travels the land singing the praises of a group of adventurers he can rarely ever catch up with.

I don’t know how you did it, but each time the lyrics reference vex, even just saying “her”, I can just feel so much tenderness, love, and devotion. And something about the lines “you want a champion/I want her back” and “I’ll be your boatman, your reaper/I’ll be yours but you can’t keep her” just calls into the depths of Vax’s desperation and determination in a way I don’t even know how to describe. I love that episode, both in the show and episode and I can really see how you translated their words and the scenes into lyrics. Even the things they didn't say out loud..
