The Birklid farm, near Fort Ransom, ND, is a true family operation. Husband and wife, Gene and Katie, tackle much of the field work, but their children, Jocelyn and Charlie, have gotten more involved with each new season. This year, the family was dealt a major setback just prior to harvest, when Gene was informed he would need immediate brain surgery to combat a problematic cyst. The surgery would be his second of the year and fourth overall. With their soybean crop nearly ready to combine, the timing of the procedure was less than ideal. After some encouragement from a family member, Katie decided to request help from Farm Rescue. Our Angels in Blue were honored to lend a hand during this important time for their family. The Birklids also represented an important milestone for our organization as Farm Rescue's 800th assisted family.
