I restored my old family home 9 years ago and the ordignal farm sink was still here my dad and my great grandfather built it in 1947 .I love living in the house I grew up in.

We used that exact tile in our bathroom renovation. Our house was built in 1879. I wanted all my floors to flow with the original hardwood, but be bathroom durable, so this was a great option. We love it.

An antique, free standing cabinet would be great for towels in the bathroom. I would not put the sink in front of the window. Buyers will HATE it. Also, how will wood grain tile look next to the hardwood floor it will butt up against? I'd do small white and black tile with a vintage farm house vibe. Love these videos!

Please do a built in bookcase under stairs, it would look amazing! In one of the bookcase opening do a hidden space behind, say a secret cubby to hide valubles. Also exposed ceilings are amazing if done correctly

@@LifeofLauraVideos Could try to locate one of those large one piece of wood base that has several old fashion coat hooks on the base. I think Lowe's sells those to look like the initial old type ones. Or can make one long large one from a piece of 2 by 4 that has been ran through a router and beveled on edges. Then wooden pegs added to the 2 by 4. Then both 2 by 4 and pegs painted white. Then add complete coat rack to one side of wall in closet to hang coats on to.

@@LifeofLauraVideos oh I agree the sink under the window in the bathroom is a bad idea. I have to have a mirror n when your waking up brushing your teeth your curtains are going to covered in toothpaste yuck. You can wipe a mirror down easy but washing curtains everyday would suck lol.

It's nice to see this diy stuff, I just started watching videos like yours. So not alot of time spent watching yet. I live in a house that my family purchased, that was a 2 story alfalfa farm house. 4 bedroom & 3 bath. Not huge, however it's big enough for us. It was moved, then redone for the most part. The guy that did the house tried his best, but never did anything like this in his life before. An we help fix some things with him so we could just move in, after purchasing. Due to inspections. Later on after a few years, we had to come and fix a few things with light fixtures, faucets etc. It was originally built in the late 1920s, Is structurally sound. The placement of the windows and other things I'm sure wouldn't be to code. But that's the beauty of an old structure for a skeleton, when everything that is structure is grandfather in. I'd say I never gave it much thought, living in a old house even if it's mostly just the structure. This house was redone over the years inside and out, as well as the last time since it was moved. An I have to say they grow on you, especially when you personalize them or add your own little touches.

About the "wild idea" of a coat closet under the stair case. Well, I lived in a Victorian home built in 1927 and we had a wonderful closet under the stairwell. It might have been my mother's idea. But all of us kids loved it! It was an ideal place to hide when we played "hide an seek". There may have been some shelving that pulled out in the area where the height was smaller for gloves and hats and such. I believe that there were sliding doors along the stairwell for more hanging space so the opening was in the hallway. The closet rod went lengthwise in the closet for much more space than you are imagining. Good Job with the mirrors!

If you really want to put the bathroom sink under the window think about one of those shaving mirrors on an extendable arm. Or you could take a tip from the tiny houses and size a mirror to go over the window like a door. The other thing you could do since there will be a cabinet for linen next to the window hinge a mirror so that when pulled out would be usable or a picture when folded closed.

A deep, angled closet is a nightmare. My recommendation would be to keep the closet up front there and give it a back say 2-3" beyond where the end of the hangers would be. Use the remaining under-stair area for drawers or cubbies you access from the other side. It keeps things accessible and that = usable.

That area under the stairs where you're talking about adding a closet...have you seen any of the pictures with drawers installed under the stairs. It would be around the corner from the doorway so no bunching up, and you wouldn't have a narrow deep closet to lose things in. My aunt did, however, have an old house and had a pantry under the stairs with shelves for her canned goods.

Okay that's good idea but then you're a woman bent over the sink brushing your teeth in the morning. I guess you could put curtains over the window but then you have curtains , blinds , shutters or shades even window film maybe behind your sink. I'm thinking of how I look in the morning brushing my teeth. I wouldn't want anyone who might be out on the yard to see that. It's been my experience that people don't like to buy a job when they're already paying for a renovation any of these you could eliminate would help your sell .

Agree with the others. Bad idea to put the only sink under a window. It's too quirky for most buyers. Sink should be on a solid wall with the mirror over it. Maybe if it was a powder bath, but even then most people want a mirror over the sink.

Think about a swing arm on mirror in front of window, mount on side then push away when you want to look out of window.

The bathroom sink under the window , ( surprisingly ) is just how UK bathrooms used to look like . you have the luck to have wall either side that could accommodate two side mirrors with hinged fixings on the side of each mirror so they could be swung out so you dont have to step aside to check yourself each time you use the sink basin.

This is what I did when we remodeled our house. I wanted the windows over the sinks. I bought an extension mirror on eBay which was actually made in England.

how much did y’all get the house for and how much y’all had to put in for renovations ?

If you get someone to do a paint that is a two part epoxy it will last for many more years than that. I had a fiberglass tub shower done over 10 years ago and it still looks brand new. It was a color change and it is still on the unit perfect. You are right about the kits only lasting a short while and they are not really that good looking when they are first done.

My gosh I am loving your series! You guys do great work and it gives me lots of ideas for if I ever restore a farm house. Is it too personal of me to ask, do you get to live in the house with your dad when its finished? I'm thinking you are 18 years old and still in high school so yes. Or on your way to 19 or 21 and in college and will get to enjoy this beauty until you graduate and start your own project home!

How come all the framing is painted white? Is it just for visibility or is that something protective? I love these videos, I'm totally invested in the progress of this house now. Haha! Thanks for sharing!

@@LifeofLauraVideos That's different. Being all the studs will be covered with drywall I presume. So they would not be seen after drywalling. Hmm🤔

I'm so conflicted because on the one hand I don't like the idea of the sink under the window but on the other hand I am super curious to see how it turns out. LOL Also you don't seem as excited as you did in previous videos, I can hear it in your voice. I hope I am mistaken. If you are going through something right now stay encouraged however you can. What ever it takes, how ever long. ❤

I think it’ll be pretty neat!! Aw I’m sorry my voice isn’t as perky as it has been, I’m honestly just tired lately! I have a very busy life and I’m not the kind of person that fakes it well. Hahaha. I’m to work most days by 8:30 and I don’t get home till about 6. I have dogs, chickens, and prefer to cook at home. Then between working on projects for the house, filming, editing, etc hahah you can imagine 🤪🤪 I’m balancing for now!
