I feel that mood board is the starting as well as the end point while making a collection. “Starting” since it lays out a road map based on the design brief which we would need to follow and “end” point since the collection we have designed need to reflect all the aspects we have put together in our moodboard. Also, I believe this is an anchor which holds different teams who work together on a design project. Coming to the video, I think it was structured well and explained in a manner that is easily understood. I really liked the book and magazine suggestion and would surely like to give them a read.

This video helped to understand on how to create a proper moodboard. First of all any product should have a design brief. It should be able to tell us exactly what we are thinking about and how we want to go about that particular product. There should be a purpose for each design and everything starts with a why. Start making a mind map where you write down whatever words that come to your mind when you think of the product you are going to create. Try to keep track of what's going on in the fashion industry. Sites like wgsn, vogue, sourcing journal. Try to get VIEW journals to get insights on textiles and others. Images in your moodboards need to be precise. In every field, a moodboard is very important as it allows us to understand the colour combination, the mood of the space, etc. The video above talks about the do’s and don’t’s needed in a mood board. A mood board is a visual board to inspire, it stays with you throughout the creative process. The first step is to find the purpose of the whole creation of the mood board followed by a detailed research. After researching, the next step is to write down each and every point that comes to our mind which is also known as mind-mapping. In mind-mapping, all the relevant things related to the collection is to be mentioned like the targeted audience, fabrics to be used, textures, the colour board, etc. Websites like WGSN, magazines like View and Vogue are to be referred to as they give information about the recent trends. The story name and the season should be included without fail as they are two of the most important elements in a mood board. Also, as designers we create collections that are 2 seasons ahead (it is important to use trendy images and not timeless images). Hence, the future is to be portrayed through the collection with the help of the mood board. To conclude, mood board can be tedious and time consuming, but after the completion of it, the road ahead is clear.

This video helped me noting down all the things to make my moodboards better. And focus on finding the purpose, asking questions, having a clarity ,referring to magazines and sites for latest trends , using only latest pictures for moodboards , mind maping the brief.
