I wore prairie dresses in 1973. Sneakers and scarfs will live forever. I have always worn vests as they are most comfortable for easy movement! Florals are always summery and soft and feminine.

I used to love wearing a scarf wrapped around my pony tail in the early 90's. I love that scarves are back.
@Thestyleinsider.3 жыл бұрын
I might start doing that again too - it's such a fun way to add colour to an outfit :)
@LibMorgan3 жыл бұрын
Me, too! I'll be wearing a low pony now instead of the high ones I pulled off in HS and college, but I pulled my old scarves out of hiding - mostly from GAP and Limited in the 90's, and I bought two new ones.
@teresacarle2943 жыл бұрын
🌷 Looks like I'm in good company☺! Also have a clear zippered pouch of colorful scarves from the Limited. Personally, I always preferred more of a petite pop of pattern. 👜 Used to tie 'em around my neck or purse handle. I can rock a 🎀 bow clip or classic hairband, but I look ridiculous in almost any version of a headscarf🤣. ↪Used to mix & match 'em w/these faux boucle knit suit sets from that same store. Owned a couple of cropped Chanel style jackets, and also the single breasted boxy blazer. They came w/both short & long pencil skirts and trouser options. They also had longer wrap style tops with short cap sleeves that worked w/the set. Bought them in every color they sold. Even a couple of skirts in plaid & gingham options. It was zero thinking color coordination. 🌸The solid black, navy, pink & green tops survived the years. Still have several of the shorter skirts, but the wide elastic is long gone. 🤔 Figured I might be able to use them as a pattern one day✂️. 💚 Bridget from Cali ☘ (using my pal's YT acct)

I am a very "young" 75 and I love the look of sneakers with midi skirts, cropped trousers, etc. I never really liked wearing them with jeans, unless they are the white leather ones. Leonie, do you feel that all the white leather ones are still in style? And can they be worn when the weather gets cooler? I don't know how I missed this video because it right up my alley on thrifting recycled fashion trends. I grow up in GA, so I am not sure if it was just me but I have pictures of myself as a teen wearing floral midi skirts and dresses. That would put the look into the mid to late 70s. Yeah got to grab and add a scarf to accessorize my looks. Yeap you know I am all into thrifting on the men rack and if the vest the right price and it fit over my chest, it going into the cart. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.

I like the look of the prairie dresses but I think they work for somebody younger than me. I'm 54 and if I try one on I feel they make me look about 84! I love the dresses with trainers look. It looks so much more modern. It's easy to veer into frumpy territory with the wrong shoes or sandals otherwise! Love the vests - in the UK we call them waistcoats if they are tailored. The knitted ones are 'sweater vests'.

I am 5'4" so the prairie style dresses, which I distinctly remember from the early 80's, looks like a dowdy cotton nightgown on me. I need to accentuate the positive and that is a smaller waistline for me. I will leave that look to a taller, younger set. Also, the large vintage florals are not to scale on my frame either. We should all focus on the positive aspects and follow the trends that highlight those!

Prairie dresses: not for me! You're right, in the 80s there was the whole Laura Ashley trend, with plenty of flowery, prairie-style dresses. I can't believe they're back, but hey, maybe young women love them. Don't be too jealous for our summer, in my corner of France, it has not really started yet. I might unearth my old silk scarves at some point, I have a beauty from Hermes that I've hardly worn in 30 years, so it definitely qualifies as vintage ;)

💐 Leonie: Fab & fun fashion trend update! 🎉Thrilled w/return of menswear & suit style vests, esp. the longer ones! 💞 Love your easy breezy boyfriend style w/sneakers. Definitely dig your oversize, casual, comfy model vibe. Can be cute when mixed w/flouncy & floral dresses, but that part of the equation is NOT for me. 🌼The poufy, old-timey "little house on the range" prairie style dresses w/petite flower prints is more of a 1970s comeback. From the bold flower power of 60s, the hippie culture morphed in a more natural & muted direction. This boho look is ultra girlish, but it makes me feel stupid. I generally avoid all floral patterns, frilly yokes, puffed sleeves, ruffles & other fussy details. In casual ☀️sunny SoCalifornia, comfort is name of the game year round〰️esp. when you take 🚍public🚉 transport where stand around, walk🚶♀️, & might need to chase🏃♀️ a connection. Prefer plainer, more simple slim looking 🎾tennis or deck style shoes⛵ to match outfit (w/naked socks) to go out & about. 🤗 Although I can never resist some💎sparkle embellishments. 💖 Love mixing edgy, combat or construction style ankle boots with some of my straighter or a-line maxi skirts. 🤠 Cowboy booties with a flirty fit & flare dress or skirt for country 🎶concerts or dancing. 😉 Otherwise, prefer wearing a slimline classic canvas or leather slip-on sneaker (like Converse or Vans). Like them paired w/a simple t-shirt dress, short pencil skirt, shorts, or cropped pants. Have them in a variety of solid colors to match my clothes (white, black, navy, gray, red & pink). 👟 Keep my more colorful chunky runners strictly for 🌱gardening or walking trails ⛰. Although I sometimes may pair a more minimal white leather chunky trainer w/a more sober navy trouser suit or 🏵palazzo pant when feeling playful. 🤫 Haven't worn jeans👖 for over a decade...too hot🌡. Big bold color, patterns & bulkiness of retro chunky dad trainers are generally too much for me😖. Prefer more minimalist kicks. 💚 Bridget from Cali ☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

😕Felt absolutely insipid in those reinspired 1800s Laura Ingalls Wilder midwestern frontier prairie styles even as a young girl (who developed too early) in the 70s. 🌼 I'm all for romance & femininity, but never could do it in the form of calico, floral prints, ruffled bibs, fussy lace, bows, puffed statement sleeves, or layers of flouncy ruffles🤮. 🤠 There was a season in the 90s where I could rock some girly-girl country boho fashions, but that ship has sailed. Feel foolish in them now. 💋 Although I do own three solid fit & flare tea length tiered skirts (in black, light brown & olive green). They occasionally see some action. I tend to style them w/a 50s retro vibe 💄. The pendulum for me has mostly swung back to being more casual sporty, classic chic, & preppy (the hipsters call the latter acadamia or librarian chic). Have the heart of 🌸flower child, but always shared more of a style sensibilty with the 60s/70s characters that Mary Tyler Moore portrayed. 💚 Bridget from Cali ☘ (using my pal's YT acct)

💘Always loved a 70s style tunic or duster vest. Or, even an unbuttoned classic menswear vest. While I am intrigued by corset vests, being constricted in anything closely fitted does not hold appeal😔. 😉 The look of a sleeveless suit vest really speaks to me.✂️ Thinking about doing some DIY upcycling w/blazers I rarely wear... Generally, find it too hot🌡to wear long sleeves let alone a jacket, but I like another layering piece, esp. if it can add a dash of pattern or texture to my otherwise monochromatic look. If I don't do a vest, I will sometimes use an unbuttoned blouse as a light topper. 💚 Bridget from Cali ☘ (using my pal's YT acct)

I understand, but with the wide pants on trend, wide dress shirts do work with chunky sneakers and casual long dresses as well.

I’m not p a unicorn, I’m a woman, but I don’t especially like sneakers with skirts and dresses.

I actually think you're in good company as I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't like this look. I personally love it but I totally see that it's not for everyone :)

Great video" All the styles looked great. I would like to get my hands on some nice vest and definitely some more scarves. I wear scarfs on my bag and in hair. I am happy you teamed with skillshare it is a great app I use it daily.

Thanks so much and how do you use Skillshare? I'm just keen to know. I personally love it and have got some great value from the courses I've taken. I often just cherry pick the courses and follow the parts of the course that I need but they are so great.

@@Thestyleinsider. Hi! I sometimes cherry pick best parts and sometimes see the whole thing. I mainly learn about art so I follow watercolorists, graphic designers and photographers. Also social media specialists are great on Skillshare. :)

Mōrena Leone, is there a way to wear retro trainers/tennies with a skirt/dress in winter with tights???Or just go bare legs in the cold? My latest thrift win is a men's blazer with satin lapel harnessing Halston's Le Smoking :-) Perfect with jeans!
@Thestyleinsider.3 жыл бұрын
Morena Chrissen - I've been wearing my trainers with bare legs lately but that's just because I get a bit hot and I wear maxi skirts so you don't see much bare leg. But I think they still look great worn with tights - so either way really!

I think of these trends, the only one I'm into is the retro sneakers, I'll pass on the others😘

I love thrifting, and I think vests are definitely a great trend. Not big on prairie dresses, im a big girl and all over neck to toe is not a flattering look!

I Agee with the previous watcher’s comments about large prints. A women who is 5’5” or less and weighs less than 145 lbs. cannot successfully wear a large print. The print ends up wearing her. In other words, when she walks into a room, the first thing one notices is the print, not the woman. What should be noticed is the women with the secondary thought, nice outfit. I know, I am 5 feet 4 1/2 inches. I used to be quite obese and could wear large prints successfully. Now I weigh 135 lbs and cannot.

Prairie dresses are cute and comfortable. However, they look a bit costumey on me.

Cottagecore is so not for me; I prefer sleek and modern styles. I do have a pile of silk scarves I've been ignoring for years, so maybe I should have a look at those again.

Sorry Leonie, my interior designer wears a scarf on her handbag and it always makes me think - try hard. Totally unconvincing.
