Picture cars are an interesting breed. They're not perfect. Sometimes not pretty. But when you see them on screen they look amazing. This was a fun inside look at the Plymouth GTX from Fast & Furious 8
"Fate of the Furious." For those of you that have been asking for Mopar...here you go.
Enjoy!

Just to get things clear y'all the motor in the fast 8 Plymouth gtx is a Chrysler 383 big block, not a chevy 383 stroker. All chevy 383 strokers orginally start out as a 350 small block and would still be considered as a small block even after putting a slightly modified 400 crankshaft in the block allowing the pistons to travel at a longer distance hence the name stoker. This also allows a chevy 383 stroker to get anywhere between 400-450 horsepower. The distributor on a chevy motor sits at a 90° angle on the rear of the motor right behind the carburetor. However, a Chrysler 383 big block, the distributor sits towards the front of the motor at a 45° angle.

Damn that's hot Sean, I'm glad that it's got the Chrysler 383 instead of an LS as that would be sacrilegious to the Mopar gods and make them very angry lol. Think that I mentioned this before but had a 70 383 Roadrunner and like the body style of the 68/70 very best, but that's really cool and still totally awesome. Oddly I've never seen any of the fast movies but just the fact that the car was affiliated with them makes it extra special and will have to start watching some of those. Saw this vid when you published it last week but didn't have time to comment until now, so thanks a lot for a fulfilling the request bud and really do appreciate you taking the time and making the effort to do it👍. Nothing wrong with a 383, I have on in my 68 Road Runner, built up but a reliable street driver...I put 110,000 miles on it since the 1990's..The 383 runs 11.86@119 mph in the 1/4 mile ! Car has 727 trans,3.55 8 3/4 rear axle ratio ! Reliable, starts all the time and drven hard, not a day goes by when I drive it that I dont floor it and burn rubber,it does huge burn outs from 20 mph roll ,no brake holding needed ! I used this car to tow m 68 Charger RT to the shop and other cars around that I bought, yes these cars can tow over 5000 pounds ! I have a stock looking 68 Charger RT with a 535 stroker(440 engine) I ran 10.03 @134 mph ! 535,727 and a 3.23 gears ! Looks stock in/out even the engine for the most part is stock looking..I also have a few more 68-79 Chargers with 512,505 and my 69 Charger RT 440 Magnum stock ran 12.80's with original never rebuilt engine, bigger carb and headers again 3.23 gears, owned that since 1978..I have a Super bee with a 512 400 based engine and a Charger with a 512 based on a 440 ! No need for Hellcat etc swaps as it time consuming and expensive...any Mopar engine can make loads of reliable power...Yeah,I have a Hellcat Challenger and it is slower than 5 of my 67-71 Mopars ! I ran a 10.89 in my hellcat ! Stock 383 ran mid 13's,add carb, headers you can get into the 12's...change the valve springs etc..do the heads, cam and well, high 11's...I plated with 383's and 440's my whole life, reliable and extremely powerful ! Ensure you doi it right, many guys since the 80's made their cars slower with mis matched heads, cam, carb and they ran slower times than a 318 2bbl !!

Tim Holder oh yeah I hear ya. I’d take good care of that car and drive him everyday like he should be. Not locked up in a cage. Currently Looking for used 71-72 RR/ Satellite I can convert to this spec, but obviously with the 440 swap.

Agreed. Most of the picture cars Dennis builds get LS motors for reliability and so after they’re done shooting the motor can go into something else. The 383 was at the shop of the new owner so it went in. And it’s not street legal because of paperwork. The new owners will do a bunch of clean up and get it in the streets.

Frank Rodrigues is right it is a 72 and roadrunner and GTX where combined. I have a triple black 72 roadrunner. Not the GTX combination. Mine is factory TX9 black with white strobe. Marker lights and tail lights will tell you. Also 383 is a much better motor on dependablity. More horse power and will take a beaten like a 350. But more power. Differance is Chevys are cheaper to work on

I actually have a 72 satellite and access to a 383, honestly recreating this with just that wouldn’t be too difficult. I don’t like the “GTX” that they built too much, but it’s still my favourite body style. Also, the Mickey Thompson’s are a really good choice for the 71’s / 72’s. Edit: They should’ve kept the 72 grille, looks a lot more badass in my opinion.

my fav muscle is '71-'72 bigblock B body. so I luv this car. this is a '72 (taillights differ between '71 and '72). in '72 the GTX was basically the 440ci engine package on a RR, so you would have both RR and GTX badging. there weren't many made so its hard to see one cut up, but gotta say this one does look super mean. prob scares the women and children. I do not care for the F&F series...they tear up a lot of cool cars just to tear them up.

Yup I would only build iron blocks from Chrysler 1960 to 1979 .and the 1960 to 1980’s 455 . Well lets gets Inside the 455 Cubic Inch Big Block from General MotorsThere's no question that 455 cubic inches of displacement equal a big motor. Nevertheless, this giant engine from the General is a little mysterious in all three lines stage 1 . stage 2 and secretly built stage 3 455 iron block with a new designed mechanical fuel pump systems that would have keeper carburetor engines at the top. in the beginning, you would find them in Oldsmobile Motor Division products. As time went on you started seeing this exact design under the hood of Buicks and there performance models used from Pontiac Motor Division. Here we'll dig into the history of the record torque producing big block. We will also uncover the difference between a 455 and a 455 HO (High Output). Discover if the Buick, Pontiac or Oldsmobile gmc engine has an advantage over the other manufacturers @ Finally, learn how the 455 benefited during a time when GM's divisions took great pride in making their own mechanical engines instead of all computer systems controlled engine we find in everything these days The Oldsmobile 442 Version Olds beat the other GM divisions to market with the first 442 Cubic Inch motor. In 1968 the engine found its way into Oldsmobile's premium luxury muscle car, the 442. They called it the Rocket 455 which became an excellent marketing tool. They based the engine off of the 425 CID found in the 1967 Toronado. The company actually retained the same size bore yet increased the stroke by altering the crankshaft. The side effects of a longer stroke include a healthy increase in torque. The downside is the engine finds itself a little slower at gathering RPMs. Horsepower ratings from 1968 through 1970 remained in the 375 to 400 HP range. At first, the engines remained exclusive to the Toronado, Cutlass and 442's. After 1970 you'll also find them in the Olds Vista Cruiser Station Wagons, Delta 88's and even GMC motorhomes. Stage I Buick 455 Performance Engine The Buick version of the 455 is actually quite different from the Oldsmobile version. Instead of altering the stroke, Buick honed out the cylinders on the 430 CID Buick Wildcat engine. For this reason, GM considered it a thin-walled big block. The advantage of this casting design is a significant drop in weight over the other 455 versions. In fact, the engine actually weighed close to 150 pounds less than the legendary 454 big block that Chevy used. This weight reduction compensated for slightly lower horsepower output from the Buick version. They rated the standard issue 455 at 350 HP and the high-performance stage I version at 360 HP. This engine had a short run starting in 1970. In 1975 General Motors started using the same engines across the different divisions and platforms. This gave them better compliance control for the increased power and fuel miles they buckled it into the ground. I know they killed the turbine because it won every race, outperformed every car and ran twice as far on the same amount of fuel It's because the mechanical pump drive shaft runs off the cam didn’t ware the flow will be good, the pressure will not drop, nothing (vapor lock) and the engine still runs . I noticed that people changed to electric for that reason but Pontiac fixed the problem with all makes everything worked better. That’s why Pontiac line was killed. At the end I put that engine in my 1995 suburban and it was a muscle car bully that ran 10 seconds on a good day on a bad day she ran 11 seconds and for a suburban that’s quick thrown down . Edit I fallowed my insane friends build I have had a 9 second suburban to be honest I miss my old suburban . I’ve had 11 different brands and nothing compared I see the auto industry for what they are and I hope you and everyone else sees this truth like I do to be completely honest they make all kinds of interesting stuff I think is shiny and cool but it not for me it never happens I’m out of place or what not I see no value in anything new and that’s my opinion not yours but you see my problem. I’m going to try and post a link off my old suburban doing its thing . Don’t mind the camera woman buckled in . 1drv.ms/u/s!Ap71DDhgGgCJhiv1cC6AIwemzh07. And yes that’s 180 mph .
