I tried fasting and it did not work for me and after hearing some podcast with Dr. Mindy and tried again. I lost weight then gained weight. Then I got the book Fast like a Girl and realized I was fasting wrong. Lost weight again and I'm hoping I keep losing. So far I'm down 12.6 lbs. 18 more pounds to go.

I completed a 9 day fast recently. I started on the first day of my cycle. I had bone broth a few days in, checked my blood sugar multiple times a day, drank electrolytes in my water, and slept amazing! Breaking the fast with coconut water, watermelon and kimchi worked wonders for me. I’m an experienced faster and this isn’t my first long fast, but doing this fast according to my hormone cycle made a world of difference and I felt great the entire time ❤

I’ve noticed that continuing to minimize carbs after a fast is important because fasting is helping to use up our glucose stores. Why would we just fill them up again?

I loved this discussion! I have learned so much from Dr. Mindy. I started I. F. after learning about your experience and although I was already pretty lean I lost the last 10-15 lbs of stubborn weight and felt amazing. I loved feeling like I was in control rather than food and felt clarity and more energy as well. After a little over a year of I. F. I became pregnant and while I couldn’t intermittent fast, I tried to keep my diet similarly good (that had improved with IF). I had had five pregnancies and with the last three I had gestational diabetes and then with the sixth after IF, I did NOT get gestational diabetes. My dr was so surprised. I attribute it mostly to IF the year or so before conceiving. I had my healthiest pregnancy of all as a 43 year old. Now I am breastfeeding so I’m doing a modified IF of up to 14-15 hour fasting window. I look forward to some longer fasts after nursing. Six weeks after giving birth I was back down to my pre-pregnancy weight and feeling amazing. I’m an IF fan! Thank you to both dr mindy for what I have learned from her and also your example to start me on that road!

What a fantastic conversation! I now have all my answers thanks to you both. This podcast is a wealth of information. I follow Dr. Mindy Pelz and now I’ve subscribed to your channel as well. I’m 70 and do regular IF and had all the questions you’ve dealt with! When to eat protein and when do I have my good carbs, how to break my fast and how to come off a fast 1 or 2 days a week. I go on regular cruises and never over indulge but worry about eating carbs or eating a bit late and having a good time. I now know how to deal with these situations as I’m normal weight and healthy and no medication which is a great place to be at 70. I’m much obliged to you for this video. Thank you so much 💕🙏💐

I started fasting a little over a month ago. I started slowly going between 12:12 and 13:11. After two weeks, I adjusted the time and worked my way up to 16:8. I recently started alternating between 16:8 and 20:4. Today, I started my first 40-hour fast. However, I will adjust the hours after tomorrow since it is day 18 of my cycle. 😅 I like fasting ❤; in addition to weight loss, it gives me more time to focus on other areas of my life, saves money, and helps me be more mindful of my meals. The mental clarity is also a plus. I live in Japan so work culture here can be pretty demanding and stressful. On the bright side, unsweetened teas with zero calories are in abundance. 😊

This was an excellent interview, but I admit that one of the true perks of 16-8 for me, a food addict, was its simplicity. I'm glad you asked the last question about menopausal women, because I was really hoping she would say if 16-8 is working, with the occasional variance as you mentioned with 'life', stick with it. But now it sounds like we should be trying to add in shorter, longer, no fasts & it starts to feel a little stressful as the ease is replaced by (at least initially) more attention to the process. Still thinking through those thoughts, so appreciate the information very much.

I’m testing Dr. Mindy’s 30 day reset and it seemed overwhelming at first, but is quite simple once you put it in action because the repetition is still there, just in longer increments instead of 24 hours.

I had a wonderful aha moment when Dr Mindy started talking about spotting for up to a week before a period! That is the stage I am at (I am 53) and my doctor couldn't shed any light on this matter, just wiped me off with 'it's normal'. I always felt that my body was struggling to get to a real period! Now I know I was right and I know WHY!!! Thank you Thank you, Jennifer and Dr Mindy!!!

I don’t actively fast, but I started something that has helped me so much. I was taught to eat 3 meals a day growing up, and one day I asked “why?”, and “ Who says?” I can skip breakfast if I want to! So, I frequently skip a meal if I am not hungry. This is easy. ❤

Loved this. You asked all the right questions! I’m a post menopausal 63-year-old woman and I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for years. I started doing it before anybody called it that! I got lots of people telling me I was supposed to eat and fasting was going to cause problems. I started doing it about 40 years ago because I discovered that if I ate after 6 o’clock, I gained weight. I also noticed that if I Finished eating before three and worked out from 3 to 6. I lost more weight than I did otherwise. I discovered Dr Mindy Pelz and Ben Azadi a few months ago during a Keto Kamp Challenge. I’ve been learning quite a bit about the right way to do keto and just to simply be healthier. I’ve made a lot of changes in the last few months and, I feel a lot better. BTW, thank you for asking about craving carbs. Like you, I like meat, but I’m not a big meat eater. I don’t know whether that was because I thought I wasn’t supposed to be or just because of my appetite. When I first started to do keto, it was very difficult for me and I kept falling off the wagon. Not because I was eating chips or bread or anything like that. I wanted salad. All salad, all the time! But since you asked that question, now I know when I have those cravings I should eat that last instead of what I’ve been doing, which has been eating it in the middle of the day. I’m anxious to make that adjustment and see what the results will be. Thank you so much for having this podcast.❤

I read the book on my flights over labor day weekend. I started my 2 week prep this week. I'm in perimenopause. It has been a struggle and I needed to do something different. I now feel that I am finally on right track and still figuring out what schedule will work best for me. I think the breakfast by 8 or so after an AM fasting workout and late afternoon/early last meal will work for me. Going to start trying that schedule. My fast range this week was 13 hours -17.5 hours. I did notice my right knee pain has reduced. So I know inflammation is reduced. 🙌🏼 healthy whole foods, healthy proteins/fats, healthy complex carbs, and cycling fasted and fed states to metabolic switching makes complete sense. My science brain is also completely intrigued with my N of 1 study and I do have acces to CGM and BG testing. This conversation was great to hear certain points after reading the book. I look forward to Dr. Pelz next book. Thank you. ! I'm coming for ya perimenopause !🙌🏼🙌🏼💪🏽💪🏽

I do have her book. So many very pertinent questions you asked that were answered so practically and understandably. Thank you. New to your channel. My first time but I have subscribed. I am 73 and have started the intermittent fasting in May of 2023. Went from 231 lbs to presently 164.8 lbs. was dealing with issues how do I eat again. Couldn’t get a handle on it until now. I would just go back to protein shake as I searched for the answer.

This answered so many of my questions on fasting. I have consistently been doing a daily 14 hour fast for about 2 years and never thought I could go longer. I recently completed several 18-26 hour fasts as a treatment for migraines (only thing that has helped for this) and my digestion improved even more. I have also found that eating earlier and “skipping” dinner is just easier on my body and I don’t feel deprived. Thanks for the great video 😊

This is a great interview! I am new to fasting (a few months) motivated to lose weight because I was diagnosed with Lipedema in March. I have been listening to Dr. Fung, Dr. Berg, Dr. Boz and a few others. Just discovered Dr. Mindy and I am thrilled! I find that I love the control I have over food with IF. I used to eat and snack throughout the day and into the late night. Now, I eat once or twice a day and nothing in between. I feel really free and I have lost 20+ pounds in a little over 2 months. I find that it is not difficult to do. I was on vacation for one week and did take a break from fasting and low carb. I did not gain any weight (to my pleasant surprise). I will buy Dr. Mindy’s book to get a deeper understanding of the impact of IF on hormones. Thank you for shedding light on this topic. 😊

I was thinking to do OMAD, but after listening I may refrain from OMAD as a long term solution, and perhaps just skip OMAD and go into a 24 hour fast periodically.. the variation of fasting will help long term with the way our body's are designed to work as females.. can't wait to dive into the book! I have Lyme disease and other tick borne infections, recently diagnosed with PCOS, my period is all over the place.. I was started on progesterone since mine was so low, but periods are still very irregular. My fasting insulin is 8, so I am also working on my overall carb and sugar intake, mainly reducing my dessert portions. It seems to be working based on weight but I haven’t had an updated insulin level since February. Now I seem to either skip a month or get it twice in one month. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with chronic illness. I never knew that women had to fast different until a came across another KZbinr who suggested Dr mindy’s book. I’m so used to fasting 16 hours a day that it’s actually hard to eat earlier in the day. I need to order this book and I Hope that it will Help me get my periods regular again.

Very informative interview. I am 62 years old and have been intermittent fasting since September 2021. My goal is to lose 30 pounds, but I've only lost approximately 10 pounds, which is frustrating, especially when I seem to be doing everything right. On the other hand, I haven't gained, which was the norm for many years, despite doing calorie counting and exercising. I feel good and my last physical went well. Thank you for this useful information!

Watched this video today and ordered the book immediately. I had great result with fasting and brisk walking in 2020 wherein I lost 10kgs within a year. But a lot of people commented on how 'sick' i looked and unfortunately, i allowed them to get to me. I stopped fasting and went back to my midnight snacking. Now in 2023, i have gained all of that weight back plus a couple more kgs. So at 5.6" (or maybe half an inch less) and above 35years, i weight 60kgs and i don't feel good at all. I have restarted fasting (been 2 days only) and i feel lucky to have watched this video. Hopefully this time too, i will lose the weight and keep it off. Thanks for doing this interview. Also, I ordered one of your books too, Jennifer.😊

I learned a lot from this interview and had several questions answered, even after 7 years of keto/IF and tons of research. I liked learning how our sex hormones, thyroid, protein, mood hormones and neurotransmitters, all these things at a cellular level, need addressed. Thanks, Jennifer and Dr. Mindy!

I am 63, don’t want to stop fasting (don’t feel I’m quite there yet, fighting carb & sugar cravings still) I am skinny now how I’ve always wanted to be my whole life, and continue fasting for autophagy (doing extended fasting easily and regularly) because feel/know my body needs to heal itself especially for gut healing! I am experiencing some hair loss at this time(?) Love and follow Dr. Mindy’s KZbins!

Thanks for the interview. So glad she gave the tid-bit about nursing moms not going over 15 hours fasting. Fasting is in the Bible for religious reasons, but I think it was God's way to keep his people healthy also. I love the etheral music at the end of your videos and could listen to a loop of it!

Years ago when I tried and there was no advice for women on how to fast, especially in Italian, I tried intermittent fasting every day and after less than a month I damaged my menstrual cycle which did not come for 3 MONTHS!! Since this never happened to me I knew fasting was not right for us at least not the way people like to promote it. Now with the help of Dr Mindy I am glad I can experience this beauty of loving my body and give it some rest in a healthy and loving way❤❤
