This is so good. And timely as we've just begun the Dormition Fast. But it also perfectly exemplifies why Orthodoxy must be lived and experienced first hand. Someone only reading books about our Faith or how to live the life misses the critical pastoral guidance so necessary to living out Orthodoxy in each of our own unique circumstances and place.

Spiritual practice, yes. I achieve more when I'm slightly hungry, that's something else.

I think peoples issues with fasting are principally modern and mental. You can exist healthily for quite awhile with no food. For most people a day or two without food will lower blood sugar and insulin and be a health benefit.

I need guidance on *how* to fast. What are the recommendations from Scripture? Are the technical prescriptions of fasting something that comes more from early Church Fathers?

Hi John, we fast under the guidance of our spiritual father. Your priest would also be a great source to ask about where we get the technical prescriptions from.

12:35 That's alright, it isn't for everybody. Who you work for actually, that's what should be pondered...!!

You must understand that "Jesus Christ is a covenant," and that covenant is mostly about the Theotokos. Mostly. Not restricted, bust most of all!!
