I love my fasting lifestyle. Thank you Dr. Mindy for the education! I have 2 partially torn hip labrums, and degenerative disc. I had so much pain, and would often have episodes of excruciating pain where I would have to stop any movement. Very debilitating. Since I started IF and prolonged fasting a year ago my pain has completely gone away. I am in the best sheave of my life at 51. As Dr. Mindy often says ‘Our bodies are miraculous and intelligent.’ This is so true. It’s so hard to believe but it’s true. Fasting does heal! Good luck everyone, with all your goals! Fasting also makes you happy, joyful, and grateful as a bonus!!!

I mix up my fasting. Typically I eat OMAD after 20-24 hr fast or 2MAD but I throw in 36, 48 and 72 (2X year) hr water fast. I’m not hungry in between meals so it’s easy to fast. I don’t have a need to fast longer but if I did I certainly would. Fasting is amazing!

Hello, Dutch test please! I recently came across your channel and glad to know that women should be fasting differently than men. I began intermittent fasting in late August. I’m 41 and have been struggling with weight. In 2 years I gained 30lbs after getting down to my lowest weight. My fat is mainly around my stomach…makes me look 5 months pregnant. So far I’ve lost 10lbs, the belly fat is shrinking, and clothes are fitting better. I’m prepping to do a 48hr fast since I’ve successfully done 2 36hr fast, one early September and towards the end of September. I bounce between omad and 18-6. I still get monthly periods so learning about not fasting a week before is something I didn’t know and may explain why my mood was down a few days before my period started. This is really educational!

Please elaborate how we may use fasting for eczema, please. I cannot tolerate probiotic food (sauerkraut, kimchi), unless it’s in pill form. I have histamine sensitivity. I’m on the 5th day of a 7-day fast. I’m not feeling hungry at all and loving my black coffee, ACV ginger water, and cold brewed Black Earl Tea! I’ll break this fast with sauerkraut which I’ve never done before. I’ve always done it with clean beef broth or the chunks of beef that came out of the broth mixed with peanut butter! Thank you Dr. Mindy for the probiotic advise! The last time I did a prolonged fast, I was so looking forward to eating my favorite meals, manchego and pecorino cheese, nuts, chaffles, bacon, keto ramen, etc. Funny enough, after I broke my fast, I wasn’t hungry at all! Crazy, I know, but, true!

Is there data on muscle loss from fasting for more than 24 hours? I was all excited to do the 3 day fast to heal a knee injury - 24 hours in - and now I'm wondering whether I should continue if it causes muscle loss. Thanks for all your educational videos and your wonderful energy!

Many studies have shown that during fasting, muscle loss doesn't occur, whereas others have. To be safe, ensure a protein-rich meal before bed with carbohydrates, fat and fibre to slow digestion, if you're looking to fast the next day for 24 hours and you're not training. This will ensure no muscle loss occurs. Fasting is not eating less it is eating less often. Nourish well in your eating window with nutrient dense food. Dr. Mindy, I don’t know if you’ll see this comment. I used to do Intermittent Fasting and Alternate Day Fasting, I started about two and a half years ago and I lost a lot of weight. Last year I got pregnant and gained back a lot of the weight I had lost. I gave birth 7 months ago and about 4 months ago restarted Intermittent Fasting and ADF. And even though I’ve really tried to do what I used to do before, this time it doesn’t seem to be working like it used to. I’ve seen a lot of women who have given birth recently (in the last few months) say the same thing is happening to them. Is this because of the hormones in our body? Will this change with time? Is there a special way we should be doing Intermittent Fasting? It’s just been very frustrating trying for 4 months and not seeing a lot of results :)

I understand the part about Dr. Mindy saying don't fast the week prior to period, but my issue is my cycle is different each month, in where I have all the signs/symptoms that I am going to "start" ad then it does not happen. Currently I am 11 days late (0% chance of pregnancy). So this makes it hard to gauge when to not fast. Gaaaaa, perimen is so annnnoying!!! UGH! Anyone have advise/solution?

This sometimes happens to me and it's because of a late ovulation. Our luteal phase generally stays the same (mine is about 13-14 days) so our period seems late but only because we ovulated later, if that makes sense. Have you tried ovulation predictor kits and i also use an app called femometer? In my personal experience, it's pretty accurate and once ovulation has been detected, i can predict with some accuracy when to expect my period.

I have been told that it takes 20-50 calories or 25% of caloric intake to break a fast. Usually, if I am not sure I do a glucose reading to see if whatever I woofed down caused an insulin spike. Just what I do, but I would not beat yourself up about a stick of gum. :)
