When this movie was being marketed, I decided to do some research on Gabriele Amorth and his life. Needless to say, I found the late father to be a fascinating man; Storied in his experiences, unique in his approach to the practice, dedicated in his service and belief. I mean, this is a person who co-authored a book titled "The Devil is Afraid of Me" - that definitely speaks to his personal confidence. Also, I must say...Russell Crowe looks nothing like the real Amorth, which I find a bit humorous.

No, it’s not unusual to see younger and younger bishops, historically or even present day. It’s really only in recent centuries that we picture a bishop as an old wise man, but historically that wasn’t the case. Secondly, he’s not a cardinal. The Cardinal is pictured center in the panel. He’s most likely an auxiliary bishop and that Cardinals chaplain, which isn’t unusual at all. Bishops are appointed for various different reasons in Rome especially, from all over the world, including the USA.

I have come very late to the films of Russell Crowe and there are some that achieved great critical and public support that I don`t appreciate, for different reasons. But I totally admire the way he has always taken on very different acting roles ,extending both his own range and that of the people he works with. I have watched many of his interviews, some of which are stupidly sycophantic and superficial . But where he is asked intelligent questions and is allowed to expand his ideas on film acting and production ,he comes across to me as an incredible asset to the cinema world.

Rather than a fake story of a demonic incident this film should’ve been entirely about Father Amorth’s struggle as he maintained both his devout Catholic faith and his scientific reasoning despite any number of forces trying to pull him one way or the other. It should’ve been a serious drama with a scattering of supernatural and mental health focused elements.
@boguslav9502

That would be a wonderful movie, you could pull a ton of other characters inspired from both fields of science, theology, the church, and bring them together into a very very good drama. Evil exists, posession as well, mental health as well, etc. And we have all these people crossing paths with things that completely defy human understanding while looking completely benign. They would have to struggle internally, immensely, trying to discern the supernatural from the natural, which sometimes can have wicked layers. Patients who are already mentally ill coming under posession, schizophrenics commiting horrible crimes pushed on by evil beings sitting right next to those who did the exact same thing but with no sign of evil beings other than their own insanity. I cant imagine how intense a movie like that would be. A crime thriller with a ton of drama.

The priest's anger is unchristian, and unbecoming of a person of his station.

Christians can be angry. Where does the Bible say not to be angry? It says be slow to anger. It says be angry but do not let it lead to sin. Righteous anger is not disallowed. Jesus never told anyone to be a doormat for goodness sake.

@@m_d1905 Righteous anger, is anger aroused due to the witnessing of evil, the priests condemning Father Gabriele are not righteously angry, they're politically motivated. The one priest in particular was angry from the start, hardly slow to anger.

@@m_d1905 he literally did. but since you are all cafeteria christians i suppose there's no reason not to edit out matthew 5:39 and 1 corinthians 13 from your personal bibles. lol, though, at the "righteous anger" caveat (which bible verse authorizes that right to you, rather than to jesus?) which tears a hole the size of a tank, since the most evil people are also the ones most convinced of their righteousness - does the term "pharisee" ring a bell?

@@bbb462cid 'Everyone has flaws', 'Everyone has a threshold', 'We all make mistakes', 'We're only human', 'Nobody's perfect', these all sound like cop outs or ways to excuse, deflect or downplay the act of fucking up. Lucky for 'Christians' the big sky wizard upstairs will bail them out & write off their wrongdoings as many times as they like.

If such a guy existed I would like to talk to him about religion. My theory is if you are starting to get religious, you must approach it through an exorcist. If it was real, they saw the point of it all

Perhaps they are all under satan's power Perhaps they believe in what they are doing Perhaps they are so prideful that they know everything Perhaps it is self-serving ego to get their own way Perhaps power corrupts all men regardless of vocation Perhaps it is a plot element
