I've been in the same place you are now. Very hard. And I had the same reaction to this song. I have no idea why so many of the comments seem clueless about the lyrics. @@sinnertrain7405 It's my honor. This is a difficult but necessary thing that you're going though. Living without pets is very different. I worked with a woman who never got over her first loss. She always seemed sad. When I've had losses, I found pets who were rescued from really bad situations and that gave meaning to my life. Everyone must do what is right for them. I hope your future holds a lot of happiness.

About 1/3 of the music, and much more of the spirit is pure Harry Nilsson, Jr writing. Great writers and performers ALWAYS steal from the greats who went before (this is not a dig, you have to actually be GOOD to understand how others' work is good to steal successfully)

@@batirtzeurkiaga1716 Hmmm... to me, JT has a quality that's much more unusual and identifiable than what I hear in FJM--a bit more brassy, a bit like Willie Nelson. The beautiful thing about this song and it being posted here on this website is that, inevitably, someone’s going to complain about it being a “Harry Nilsson rip off” or some odd thing which will compel someone who has never heard of Harry Nilsson to go search this same website for Harry Nilsson and they’ll inevitably find “Everybody’s Talking” and say to themselves, “Wait, I’ve heard that one!” or “Hey this is pretty good I haven’t heard this one before!” and the result of all this is that a bunch of people, having enjoyed the musical stylings of Joshua Tillman, are now also fans of Harry Nilsson. Friends, I hope we can all find the positive in the otherwise negative around us.

Lyrics This may be the last time Last time I put on my shoes, Go down to the corner And buy the damn cat the expensive food That Turkish Angora's 'bout the only thing left of me and you, Early this morning, it started making sounds that say "Don't the last time come too soon? One down, eight to go, but it's no less true Don't the last time come too soon?" Mmh-hmm-mmm Mmh-hmm-mmm Mmh-hmm This may be the last time Last time I get out of bed, Put coffee on and try, in your words "To show some initiative" We used to lay around here laughing At what these freaks out there were trying to prove, mhm But what's wasting time if not throwing it away on work When the last time comes so soon ? Mr. Blue died in my arms, nothing they could do ; Don't the last time come too soon ? Love's always gonna leave ya . No matter what they say, You only know what it is once it's gone away. This may be the last time The last time I lay here with you . Do you swear it's not the cat? You don't have to answer that I'll just make do But maybe if he'd gone sooner Could've brought us back together last June, When the last time was our last time ; If only then I knew . The last time was our last time Would've told you that the last time comes too soon When the last time was our last time Should've told you that the last time comes too soon When the last time was our last time Should've told you that the last time comes too soon.
