Fr. Mike is one of the good priests. It takes a lot for someone to admit that they were wrong in public. Yes we desperately need our bishops and priests to take action like yesterday but we must not forget that they are also human and need a lot of prayers. Satan is trying to destroy them all. Question is Will we be ready to take action when at least a Bishop or priest will stand up for us Catholics in public? or maybe Catholics should not wait and stand up together and fight this Evil?!

He didn't fail in that moment. He assessed the situation, determined she was getting the care she needed, and then allowed the responding parties enough room to act and get her where she needed to be to get further treatment. That was the absolute most responsible thing a person could do in that situation.

Unapologetically Christian I am also thinking that if it were a heart attack situation, as a priest to call out a prayer would be acceptable but honestly, in a plane when a passenger is being attended to, other than if he were an orthopedist, he would have just been in the way. The woman “Lucy” obviously knew Fr Mike from his media etc., so desired interacting with him in her agony but she was a stranger to him and thus would have been reprimanded by the crew, “Sir, please take your seat.” Or crueler or if a christian maybe Reverend or Father, you’re in the way buddy........just thinking aloud!!!

V Stu the thing with that is that as Christians, we are called to do what is right and just and help those who need it even when the world is against us. And that is the hardest challenge that we can encounter as Catholics. I mean, just think about the whole pro-life/pro-choice discussion (as an example), sometimes it’s hard to defend the defenseless when others are against you. And it’s the same in this situation, all that girl needed was to meet him, was to get the emotional help, to know that he is there for her. I don’t judge Fr. Mike at all, but I guess you kind of get the point of being called to action even when we doubt ourselves or others doubt us.

I always find it interesting the way we apologize for crying. We don’t apologize every time we laugh no? Emotions are neither good nor bad in and of themselves. It’s how we act that determines sin or virtue. Here Father has tears of true contrition. No need to be sorry. These are blessed tears.

I once was at the bus stop waiting for the bus to go to work when an older lady approached me and told me that she had left her house and could not find her way back. I stayed with her and tried to help her remember any information about her family, so that I could contact them - she had no information with her whatsoever, nor a cellphone. A few minutes passed and the bus came. I didn't want to be late for work, so I got on the bus... and just left her there. When I got to work, I wept like a little girl and it's been over 5 years since this happened and I still beat myself up about it because I should have and could have done something. At some point in our lives, we've all been indifferent and it hurts to think about it. All we have to do is try to rectify that by being more compassionate and caring towards those around us. God bless! 🙏🏻

Oh man. I remember when i first moved across the country, i was living by myself, i got my first real heart break i went to a catholic church. The only place that felt like home and i started crying and crying to God because i was heart broken. The priest came to approach me and i wanted him to listen to me or give me a hug or something. I needed a father, and instead he told me that i need to get out because he had a dinner to attend and needed to close the church. It is one of the worst heart breaks i've ever had! i blamed him and was so upset and ashamed of him and now i realized i've done the exact same thing many times.

We are all Lucys that are hurt that our Catholic Church left us without the sacraments and didn't fight for our right to assemble and practice our faith even with our dispensation... we needed our FATHERS!!! Watching this made me remember my time in highschool when I was in a really dark place. I was grasping at straws, basically just looking for someone that would talk to me like a person, and try to understand me, to the point where I resorted to talking to our school chaplain. (I was very timid person and this was a big scary thing). I think I talked to him once for a short amount of time, in which he later told me to talk to him when I needed it. I took that as a sign that I'm welcome. I came back one day, and he was pretty dismissive, he barely looked at me, and I was barely in his office when he quickly left to go elsewhere. I came back another time since I was seeking help, because I just wanted to feel better, leave the depression, but same thing, he was dismissive. I never went back after the second time since it was clear I wasn't as welcome as I had wanted to be. I'm crying as I'm writing this since I felt so much in just that moment. Even the chaplain didn't help me, and I took it as there's definitely something wrong with me. When I see him at church (once or twice over the years), I still think about it. I don't hate him, I don't wish anything bad towards him, I just remember the hurt if I'm reminded of him. I don't think he's aware of the impact it had on me, nor does he remember who I am. I've listened to father mike and he has been my favorite priest since high school. To see him get emotional about something like being indifferent though unintentional, made me wonder if it's something I should speak about. It does seem like something petty, but idk, I never thought of ever telling the chaplain. Something so small though can make so much of a difference. It did influence me to be more aware of others, and I try my best so that others wont have the same experience as me.

This is so so tough. It’s hard to remember that it’s not enough to care if we don’t follow it with action. It’s hard to do small right things when the problem feels so out of your control. But people need our action however small. Maybe even especially the small things so they know they are seen. I have failed, so may my sorrow bring me to move next time.

It is a great video. I do not like to see Fr Mike upset, I only ever agree with about half of his conclusions but I do not like to see anyone floored by their own limitations, imagination or humanity. Worry and anxiety are tools of the devil and hold us back from confidence in Gods providence and mercy. I also cannot agree with the understandable but I think perplexingly inadequate summary of Indifference when we do not shout god from the roof tops. I take the Mother Teresa clause that when God wants a non believer to find him he will let you know. . they may ask you questions etc. It is then that we must answer with as much charity as we can. Wisdom does not ordain that we must be heroic martyrs and go from door to door evangelizing because that can have a negative affect. Therefore Like Mother Teresa I think we should first try to do good, advise good, trust in goodness and our deeds and prayers will lead others to question us with answers then to be asked and answered.

Have you considered that he was displaying grief & sorrow over his inaction and the affect it had on Lucy in this clip, not anxiety or the other things of the devil? Grief & sorrow are healthy responses when we make choices that hurt others 🙏

It's hard though to know because sometimes offering help or prayer doesn't serve well its complex butbi get your message. You have a beautiful heart, forgive yourself . Hugs

Sometimes it's difficult to know what to do, but this isn't always because of indifference, it's because of emotional confusion. Indifference, as I see it, doesn't come from thinking someone is being helped in a crisis, or even from thinking, someone's choice brought the crisis upon them. Indifference, to me, is apathy combined with a lack of empathy. Sometimes there's nothing you can do to help, no matter how much you want to help. Sometimes, others moved faster, and were more able to help. Sometimes we think why should someone be helped, they don't deserve to be helped. This is indifference. Regardless of whether I'm right or wrong, in my opinion, we should always cultivate the desire and ability to help. And, yes, we will fail, fall short and inadvertently hurt others. We can always reach higher, and we can always fall harder, but it's always worth the effort.

You are so special to Our Father. You truly show the humility of Christ. Please pray for me. I have been being called to write a book about my journey with Christ, from the point of The Holy Spirit. I don’t want it to sound self righteous cuz I’m not like that. One thing I keep getting in prayer among many other things. “The pen is mightier than the sword. I know the Holy Spirit will guide me in this. But I would be sooooo greatful. You really are an inspiration to so many of us. God Bless

That hurts me. People don't know what is in our hearts and minds but they do see us in our actions. Even though Father Mike didn't do anything wrong, actually staying out of the way and saying a prayer is a good plan BUT her perception was a man that couldn't be bothered to move. Always move. Always have action. We can all learn from this. Even when there are many GOOD choices, make the one that shows others the greatest love in action. I'm sure she understood as you talked and you will do better next time. That's the good thing about God, he will always put you in a spot to try again. Bless you Father for being a good man of God.

If Father Mike was just "some guy," then, yes, but he is a priest and she, as her email stated, "was looking for her father." Now, I by no means think ill of Father Mike, and I understand his reasoning. But, so many times I, myself have needed a priest or a sister, and was in too much pain to ask, and none came. They may or may not have seen my pleading eyes, but, oh, what joy and comfort if they only invested in me just a little. I need a strong spiritual father or mother to adopt me as I walk closer home to Rome.

I agree with you Barbara. I don’t think he was indifferent. It feels like Lucy used emotional blackmail on him

Oby A - I agree as well. Furthermore, too many people trying to help can truly get in the way of a person in this sort of situation getting the right help. Sometimes, helping is getting out of the way.

It reminded me of an experience on a bus. we all would leave our sit for our elders but there is this feeling that someone else would do it ya know so 1 time I was really sick and tired and I saw an older man standing I was waiting for others to see him and give him their seat as it hit me, I am tired I know, but its as if I am not willing to help then who should? This is my obligation as a Christian MY responsibility.

That’s happened to me. Ppl were already rushing to win points to “appear” nice, so I let them take their moment bc I was unwilling to participate in the facade. When something really happens that u are alone and you’re the only one that can help bc there’s not a bunch of ppl, then you can pass that test. Otherwise there’s a lot of frauds and fakes wanting to appear like you didn’t help and you’re not nice. They do it ever so slightly so that if u see 5 ppl already jumping up to help bc they know they’re being watched and don’t want you to take no part in the “nice person” examination. This shit is so rigged and I can read ppl like a book! F-Mike you shouldn’t feel bad! She staged the bullshit to test u, and u failed bc u saw that others were already helping, simple as that.
