Thank you for sharing this recipe, I tried my Moms recipe last week and it came out so delicious, I cried the whole time making it because it was the first time I made it alone since my mum passed away a year ago. I even cried when I took my first bite and it tasted just like hers. Seeing you make them, made my heart feel lighter 💕🤗

Dear Fatima. Your voice makes me feel at home with that wonderful SA humor, now I live in Norway doing my PhD and I keep making your food so I can feel at home. My family in SA always made Norwegian food when we celebrated our heritage, now that I am in Norway , I find myself craving South African food and your channel is a Gold Mine of all my favourites. I just love it. When people ask me what do South Africans eat besides braai, I just say go to your channel! Love it! Love it! Love it! It was only when I lived in Stellenbosch that I tried Cape Malay Koeksisters and I can never go back to the standard kind. Making them right now!

I made your Koesisters Fatima. And they were amazing. Just like I remember when I was young. Standing outside the unties house with mummies bakkie smelling the delicious aroma, in my pajama’s on a Sunday morning. Whether you joled late or not, koesisters you queued for! Thank you. Making another batch this weekend. Gotta teach my millennials and they loving it.

I am in Australia and think that our flour may be slightly different to South African flour. The 550ml of liquid is too much for our flour I adjusted it slightly, the result was perfect. Thanks so much Fatima. You are such a star. I simply love you site.

Cape Malay Koesister Recipe Dry Ingredients 5 cups cake flour 3 tablespoons aniseed 2 and a half tablespoons of ground cinnamon 10grams of yeast 1 tablespoon of ground ginger 1 tablespoon of ground cardamon mixed with a little bit of ground dry naartjie/tangerine peel which is optional 1 teaspoon of baking powder 1 teaspoon of salt 1 quarter cup granulated sugar preferably castor sugar (Mix these all together excluding the sugar, mix sugar with wet ingredients to dissolve because it's granulated and not castor sugar) Wet Ingredients 300ml water 250ml milk 3 tablespoons melted butter 1 egg beaten(aside) guess extra large (Mix wet ingredients with the dry mix through don't worry if it sticks to hands when done mixing wash hands and take a little oil and oil the dough, clingwrap and set in warm place to rise after dough has double in size take out the bowl onto a floured surface and make balls not big balls cause they will rise again. Start frying in vegetable oil or sunflower oil when syrup is done. Fry until golden or as you like.. Take out and let dry on kitchen towel to drain excess oil.) The Syrup 3 cups of water 3 cups of granulated sugar 3 sticks cinnamon 6 cardamon pods 6 dried or fresh naartjie/tangerine peels(optional) (All together in a big pot until boiling turn heat down to medium low. Take the koesisters and let them steep in the syrup for about 3 mins. Take out and cover with dessicated coconut. Let it cool a bit and enjoy with a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate) Side Notes Dough should always be sticky not smooth for a lovely airy koesister. Put a small piece of the dough in pot to see if oil is ready... when dough comes up immediately you know the oil is ready. She had 10 pieces in her pot. But take note she had a big pot, you don't want to overcrowd your pot because you can actually cool down the oil temperature... Every time you add a new batch to the syrup add 3tablespoons of water. When the bubbles get to much in the syrup you need more water.. so add water. 😉😇😊💝
