Exactly "and why it was the Saturn 2" lol. Actually for me it was the Saturn 2 8K. Such a great machine. I've had it since late last summer and haven't had a fail yet. Haven't had to change the NFEP either. I use it every other day on the average and its a work horse. My first printer was a Elegoo Mars 2 mono then a Mars 3. I bought the Phrozen Mini with my Mars 3 and returned it because it wasn't as reliable for me.

I used an Elegoo Saturn for about two years, then purchased a Saturn 2 about a year ago. The Saturn is gathering dust in the corner of my garage workshop. I keep telling myself that I will use the Saturn for projects not requiring a lot of detail, but the Saturn 2 is just a better machine, plus it is 8K! After a year, I can count the number of failed prints on my fingers. I have been printing almost every day, 6 to 12 hours for the past three months and have not even had to re-level the build plate.

I'm a big proponent of quality construction, so my decision to go with the Anycubic Photon M3 Premium was fairly easy to make. Several things put me over the top which included Anycubic's Z-axis accuracy and their obviously premium double-threaded ball screw rod and faster printing speed. Also, the much larger resin vat, included screen protector and NFEP all contributed. What pushed me to bite the bullet and buy one was that the M3 went on sale, and continues to be on sale at a 27% discount...$469 USD! ...a price I couldn't refuse. I can live with a not quite optimal UI because the "real" positive experience I am looking for is print quality and printer longevity/reliability. Since I had none of them to compare side-by-side, your review Ross was invaluable and told me exactly what I needed to know to make an informed decision in favor of the M3.
@xXKisskerXx Жыл бұрын
I love how you say to comment and tell you which one we picked, and why it was the Saturn 2 - and we all know why for the most part - it's the cheapest, and most of us are 'getting into resin' printing, not doing it as a pro level yet. But my reason I would pick it... is because I like the colors. Yup. I just do. Red Black and Silver just jam with me, it's not for everyone, but they bring me joy, so whenever possible, I try to pick them, unless there is a significant drop in performance, or value, or something on that line that would put my money best used elsewhere, even if it was more expensive, and not 'my favorite colors'.

I prefer a more simple UI design over a fancy smartphone-ish interface. It's a tool with a few relatively simple function. It doesn't need a complicated menu with artificially inflated features. The larger touchscreen is a nice to have feature though. I think the "buttons" are on the right because majority of the population is right handed. That way you don't cover up most of the screen with your hand while touching the buttons. 8:22 It is rather detrimental if the bolt head cuts itself into the part as future fine positioning won't be possible as the conical head will just pull itself into the indentation it made earlier. Not to mention the strength of the coupling doesn't come from the bolt head but from the friction between the surfaces forced together. Using conical head (countersunk) bolts is an interesting choice from Anycubic. On some earlier models they used socket cap head bolts with washers which seems to be a better solution from engineering standpoint. As wifi connection goes it's such a shame that there is no such alternative for resin printers as Octoprint (or the other similar web based UI implementations) for FDM printers where you have full control of your printer over a simple browser tab. These mobile apps are nice but they are definitely lacking even some basic functions. Not to mention I design my models on my PC not on my phone. There is an interesting solution for printers lacking (proper) wifi connection. There are wifi capable USB flashdrives with basically the same file transfer functionality this Phrozen printer offers. 20:20 You forgot about light intensity. Nothing guarantees perfectly equal UV light intensity even among the same models, let alone different brands with different settings.

I am swapping from an Ender 3v2 to an Elegoo Saturn 8k. I managed to get the printer, wash and cure station for just under $615. My reason for getting it is I make a lot of smaller parts that need a lot of detail and printing each part normally takes around 50 minutes on my ended 3v2. Because of this I don't need a giant vat. I own a Saturn 2 and there are air vents on the sides so its not wise to block those vents if you wish for your printer to last. Besides leveling the build plate for the first time I never had issues with the build plate coming loose, so it could be two thing, 1) applying to much force when holding the build plate when removing a print or, 2) not tightening the bolts correctly and or hard enough. I bought a flex plate so now once I level the build plate I never have to touch it again providing I did it correctly the first time. Edit: The USB port is on the side so it prevents you from accidently hitting it and risk not only damaging the usb but also the usb port itself. Edit 2: I don't understand why a 3d printer needs a camera imo, like yeah it might be useful to see if the vat needs to be refilled but lets be honest, when 3d printing long prints you'll be either awake or asleep so you'll either check on the resin level every hour or so or have a automated refill system in place if you run a resin print over night, so I believe having a camera is a pointless feature that only drives up the price. I also believe a basic and easy layout and easy to understand UI for a printer is most important, the entire point of a printer is to print things and not a over engineered UI that would be harder to navigate and understand. The Saturn 2 has all that you'll need in regards to UI, print, LCD/UV test option, viewing 3d renders of what you want to print, bed leveling and manual lift and lower bed. Anyone is free to view what they think is right but 3d resin printers can only get so good before these company's start adding needless features just to jack up prices.. last thing we need is to be able to game on our 3d resin printers lmao.

I was using a creality l d 006 and happy with that until I accidentally let resin sit on the big LCD screen under the vat due to an unknown puncture in the plastic and ruined it, and found out there are none in stock and besides, now this originally $800+ printer sells for $200 new. So some people starting out might want to grab one just to play with and have a super nice little printer for sure, until something breaks, but it's clear they aren't supporting it and just phasing them out. So now I can buy an M3 for $480 to upgrade from that creality machine, to a higher resolution and bigger tank and a newer generation printer. It's worth it for me. I do engineering prints so I think rigidity is key, so I opted for the heavier M3 build to give better dimensional tolerances when I'm trying to print things to fit within a couple thousandths. And with the creality when I tried to fill up the whole plate with models, sometimes it would slip gears inside, you could hear it grind when it couldn't lift the plate up. Because the bottom layers have more seconds required like 10. Maybe I should have only been doing two or three? Because my other layers were all 1.5 seconds or so. So I really like this M3 bigger stronger ballscrew as well as the comments about holding of the plate strongly. Thank you so much for the good info in this video!

I even ignored the printer for 3 months, came back, stirred the vat and printed without fail. I think your problems with the levelling is likely related to initiation layer, and less likely related to losing your level. Once I locked mine down 8 months ago, it hasn't moved.

I am using an M3 for simple things, but I am using an M3 Max (7K) for some large chess pieces, and Star Trek models. The one thing that I find atractive about Phrozen is the LCD screens are supposed to have a 10,000 hour lifespan as compared to the SLA/LCD screens that are rated at 2000 hours. The M3 Max replacement screen is 220 USD. The M3 premium screen is 140 USD. The screen for the Phrozen Mighty 8K is 140, and frankly looks exactly like the screen that goes in the M3 Premium in the picture. The Mighty 8K is 650 USD. at the moment with 2 bottles of Grey 8K 1Litter, so those are 80 dollars value if you like and or prefer that resin. I have not tried it yet as I have been testing Anycubic ABS like resins with my model and chess pieces. The M3 Premium is 470 USD. at the moment with no per-se free resin. So if you bought the equivalent resin it would be 550, lets say and 100 dollars cheaper. That is now as stated in the video they have different sales, so I guess the prudent buyer saves their money and waits for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and or Christmas, Easter, ECT. The things that I am printing though are large scale, and I have been looking at the Mega 8K, and or I almost bought a used Transform, but I found that it really didn't print much larger than my M3 Max. I also recently found out that the max prints at 7K which is basically fine for the Star Trek ship models that I am designing and printing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/noSpnHqpo7KAqbs The bad things I have heard about the Mega 8K so far is the build plate is supposed to be a bitch to get the models off of. The holes in the plate are to prevent it from creating suction with the resin, but I think it makes a problem with the resin now wanting to let go of it. IDK, but I do not wish to spend 2100 dollars Plus to have issues. I want to print large for some of the models that I am making and that means money in resin cost. I just printed a Bishop for a 4 inch square space Chess Set and it is 13cm tall with 7cm diameter at the base and solid, so about 4 to 5 dollars of resin. The large model pieces for the Star Trek models can be from 2 to 8 dollars apiece so yea, I hate it if it fails for any reason. Thats part of R&D though. I really wish that they would come out with an 8K LCD machine that has the build area of the M3 Max, but until they do the alternatives are the M3 Max SLA at 7K, or the Mega 8K and figure out the build plate issue. Any advice or opinion would be appreciated.

@stltrekmodels.4157 Жыл бұрын
@@FauxHammer This is what Phrozen claims in the News Letter articles. I will look it up and screen shot it. I have always hated the difference between truth, and sales pitch points. I am somewhat happy with the M3 Max, but am curious with the Mega Max I am designing things like a 1/200 scale model of the Enterprise from the original series, and the fewer pieces that I can make it in makes me happier, unless I can just get the pieces to go together so nut tight and strait that it wouldn't matter. I have been comparing the 2 on YT, and with both newsletters for a while now. I am glad that You have this channel and are doing these comparisons. I have had some issues with some of my prints but I think it has more to do with the slicers, and or the Blender program than the machine itself. I also just had resin leak from the bottom of my vat on my Max, and Thank God for the screen protector as it cured resin in between the screen protector and the FEP film bottom of the vat. I have another vat and 5 more sheets of FEP film. I just ordered some screen protectors, so I have to wait until they show up to print again. I will find the article that claims the 10k hours as it was one of the big claims that got me looking at the Phrozen line along with the Mega 8K machine. They also claim that their LCD screens shoot the light beams straighter than SLA machines, so I don't know if that includes these 8K machines from Anycubic, or Saturn, or again if it is just sales BS.

Hmm! Interesting video. Me? I just got a Saturn 8k and love it. Why? Because it was the cheapest. I felt I didn't need the extra few cms of verticle print height of Saturn 2 for an extra £100. I think the Phrozen is overpriced. OK. It has a nice user interface but are we being a it like Magpies here? Shiny shiny, must have. Camera is a bit of a gimick I feel. Plus it appears to be difficult to get here in the UK at the moment. Don't want to to pay import fees on top of the high price. I think the Anycubic is a bit bulky looking compared to the others but again it's £200 more than the 8K but I am sure it's a great printer. And after all we don't sit looking at our printers thinking how pretty it is. Basically they all print to the same fantastic quality. So why pay more for something that does the same job. As for screws coming loose on the leveling systems, why not use a bit of removable thread locking compound. I found on one of my small printers with the four screws, when I tightened them it always lifted one side slightly but it was a cheaper printer. Anyway, that's my pennies worth. Cheers!

Excuse my side comment. I recently bought a Saturn 8K for the same reason you did. I also use the Mars 3Pro and like both printers very well. I didn't need the Z-axis height and the price was cheaper than the Saturn 2 so it was just right for me. I also saw the Saturn 2 and Saturn 8K in the verification, but the print quality I was looking for was good enough for the Saturn 8K. And Mars 3Pro is amazingly good too.😀

After owning it for a couple weeks now, I can say 100% that I am entirely happy with my Saturn 2. Are there parts about it that I would have preferred one of the other options? Sure. I'd love it if it weren't always running the fan. I'd love to have the beefy build quality of the Anycubic, and while the UI is perfectly fine for me, I would prefer the orange lid from the Phrozen, lol.

Preordered the Saturn2 because at the time Phrozen was almost an extra 500 to ship and I’m gun shy with Anycubic. I own a MegaX, a MonoX, (both have been reliable with maintenance), but feel I lucked out with all the lemons/terrible support they seem to give when you have a problem. BUT maybe that’s me listening to the crowd saying ‘Anycubic=bad support, Phrozen=hot new kid in town, Elegoo=decent for what it is’. Haven’t had issues with the Sat2 but HATE the build plate/leveling ball.
@FauxHammer Жыл бұрын
All fair points, Anycubic have had a bad rep, I don’t use their support anymore so can’t comment on any recent improvements if there are any. But going on the quality of this printer, they are definitely and clearly on a path of quality now.

@johnquaidsandey8552 Жыл бұрын
@FauxHammer does the heater set the temperature for what you need I.e when you have your room temperature for 20-22° because that would be amazing for me. Also is the vat size similar to the Saturn and phrozen or anycubic? Sorry for all the questions
@FauxHammer Жыл бұрын
@@johnquaidsandey8552 it's fine for asking I'm here to help. The vatl holds about 700ml, so not as big as anycubic but bigger than most others. As for the heater, it heats the chamber below the vat, warming the resin. It's not a heated vat, but it's more than enough to make resin workable in colder environments where people struggle. In my case as in already at a decent temp, it just makes it faster. So where all the other letters take 1.5s exposure per layer, this takes 0.75s I have a small video on it if you see my shorts

I just started playing dnd and was thinking of eventually dming, was thinking about printing minitures for that and such. Maybe make terrain map squares. What printer should you recommend. Was thinking the Saturn2 just for the cost of it all and its larger build size and the non-lcd screen compared to mars 3 pro so I don't have to replace the light source as often. I can always hybrid print certain parts between the ankermake and a resin printer but want everyone's thoughts.

Interested to hear how these three stack up to the Unifomration GKTwo. Seen a LOT of positive reviews about those floating around, but I'm not sure how far to trust those reviews Seems like every KZbinr even slightly into resin printing was sent a free machine and a LOT of them are unwilling to be critical because of the freebies. If you watch my GK TWO video you will see me loving that over these. At least I hope I made that clear. I wanted this video to be my BIG video that everyone used. but then the Uniformation came out and pretty much shat all over these in terms of features. But not everyone can afford that. @FauxHammer Жыл бұрын
I can only speak from my own point of view and I’m not the most financially conscious person. Whilst I would recommend buying cheap with products like airbrushes because you can break them kinda easily. With 3D printers, id do my research, decide what I want and then get that, I’ll figure out how to use it later. So long as you don’t try to print something whilst you have solid resin between the screen and plate, and don’t spill liquid resin everywhere, you’re unlikely to break it. Get the expensive one you want, Buy right and buy once.
