I think MF DOOMs lyrics are often misunderstood and passed off as Non sequitur lyrics when in reality a lot of his lyrics are bathed in 5% nation philosophy, ghetto life and pop culture reference and double entendre. MF DOOM was iconoclastic in his approach to music in the same way that Prince was. MF DOOM was an advocate for music as the central focus of rap as opposed to the hyper masculine hyper capitalist theatricality often found in mainstream rap. His place as a top 10 emcee was solidified before he passed. Thank you for making this video! Rest in Peace to Zevlove X/MF DOOM. - Cytonius

DOOM and DMX being dead in such a short period is just unfair man. A true "villain" with every right to be the way he was wit hall his talent. I always smile no matter how many times I hear DOOMs songs with his insanely clever writing. Never gets old.

"Head on straight, mask on crooked Exit stage left, with the cash gone took it Off like a khufi, the fit was a bit doofy He tried to get screwy, with that two for you One two for me G, cut the cranky attitude" The Mask on the "The Mouse & the mask" album was the first time I listened to him. RIP MF DOOM

Although I’ve heard about MF DOOM and how great he was, I never took the time to give his music a shot and I definitely regret that now because the snippets that shawn played here sound genuinely amazing. Im definitely gonna go listen now. It just sucks that he’s gone

I bought Operation: Doomsday in 2002 blind just because I had seen a bunch of people talking about how good it was and music wise it was the best decision I ever made. I just want to say that in the following three years that man dropped 4 classic albums and no amount of context can perfectly capture how wild it was at the time living through it or the severity of the withdrawals when it was followed up by a 4 year drought of releases. I have been listening to hip hop since the 80's and MF DOOM became my favorite rapper in that 3 year stretch and will always remain so.

In a lot of ways, I saw Daniel's MF DOOM as almost a parallel to myself. His effortless, almost careless flows embodied the way I imagined myself moving in life - free spirited but logical. Growing up I was very much into comic books and all that nerd shit. I even made a comic book persona of myself I called OMEGA D (Looking back on it now I can see why someone would laugh at this lol) as I had a fascination with Star Wars, Spider Man and Doctor Doom himself with the whole hooded robe theme and mask to go with it. My character was an amalgamation of that. Years later in my high school years I had my first listen of MF DOOM about 11 years late for the release I'd never expect to have rang so deep with me. From the cover art that looked so much like my own hero concept down to each and every song in the album I was hooked. This man had scratched an itch I didn't know I needed to scratch and opened my eyes to the idea that art was more than just sound, not that his was bad either! Though there were some songs I didn't particularly care much for I could still see the beauty in them; he is consistently being who he is (as MF DOOM the character) while simultaneously still having fun as Daniel Dumile the artist. What really struck a chord was when I heard Madvilliany for the first time back in 2017 during the after hours while working at Lowe's scrolling through Spotify to find any other works of DOOM's as I had not known until a week prior that he had other works floating around like NehruvianDOOM. I couldn't believe I'd missed out on this album but was so glad I'd found it. To this day I believe MF DOOM lives on as not just an art but a persona! His many aliases of JJ DOOM, MF DOOM, Madvillian, Danger Doom, and Viktor Vaughn are an enigma that I hope will forever be remembered. As with most rapper deaths, I'm sure there will be an influx of people checking out his works. Though I'm deeply saddened, personally, to hear my hero died early in life I am remised to know that he will be remembered more for his art and not the personal connections one might feel from getting to know the person behind the art... R.I.P MF DOOM. Remember: All caps when you spell the man NAME
