If you're an East German who was born in 1900 and made it to 2000, then you saw so many "this is totally the one true political answer" paradigm shifts in your lifetime. It started with the Kaiserreich, where monarchy was cool and democracy was lame, then went to the Weimar Republic, where democracy was cool and monarchy was lame; then the Nazis, where communism was an evil specter, then to communism, where the former political doctrine was the truest evil. Then suddenly communism is no longer cool and it's all about democracy again. And all the time, you had to mentally capitulate and truly believe in your heart that whatever the current party line was was the one true thing, otherwise risk being a thought criminal. Yet somehow Germans think that they are free and that the present censorship is legit because mirabile dictu, the country finally, this time around, really did hit on the ONE TRUE THING.
@mrsupremegascon3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. My grand father who went in school in the 40s/50s when France went through 3 differents regimes (Conservative leaned Republic, Fascist regime, Communist leaned Republic), everytime he returned to school to learn how the previous regime and the previous stuff he was taught were wrong, always told me that, in the end, there is no way to be sure who are the good guys. So the best is not to listen too much to your government narrative, and more follow your brain/heart.
