This will cost the Dems the next election. I have been voting Democrat for many years but now I am just fed up with how out of touch they are. I take the subway everyday but I also wake up at 4:30am to drop my Daughter off at work in Midtown before going home to commute myself. I do this because the Subway is unsafe and there is nobody on the platform or on the trains to protect the passengers. A slight increase, most people could deal with but an addition $9 on top of the $6.95 toll in each direction comes to $22, totally insane !!!! They are totally out of touch with the working people of NY. If you want yo save the MTA, do something about the people jumping the turnstiles. I personally witness at least 5 per day just as I go through. This govt is totally incompetent

I love how they decided to implement congestion pricing in 2025 AFTER the 2020 pandemic that reduced car traffic into Manhattan significantly and hasn’t ever really quite returned to 2019 levels and probably never will due to remote/hybrid work trend. So this clearly has nothing to do with reducing car congestion like a city like London implements, and instead is a shameless money grab from NYC to make up for their consistent city budget deficits. Another tax on the middle class and poor. Luigi Mangione….
@GardenDude1Күн бұрын
The firefighters are not more special than the citizens they serve. They take their cars to work by choice. They can take the subway too. That's what the congestion toll tax is for; to get more people to stop driving and start taking mass transit again. And the bonus would be more first responders in the subways which might help save lives. Wouldn't it be nice to have an EMT next to you when you get stabbed or lit on fire or pushed onto the tracks.

Congestion is caused by tlc/taxis backing up traffic and double parking and they aren't limited nor paying the toll themselves so congestion isnt going anywhere. Now, members of fdny are not going to want to work in that area bc why would you work in one area and have to settle for a lower wage vs anywhere else outside of the zone? Result will be all the stations/firehouses will be a rotating door of rookie emts, medics, and ff's who have no choice but to fill vacancies in the CBD. If you're okay with the residents of the CBD being members first or 2nd time while theyre still learning their skills so be it. No one will pick up overtime there which means if and when people call out sick, there will be extended wait times. People pick up OT for extra money so deff not going there. Don't say we didn't try to warn you.

Emergency vehicles are exempt from congestion pricing. It's fire fighter's personal vehicles that are going to be charged. Regarding response time, these tolls would mitigate traffic and provide more space for emergency vehicles to get through. Not sure why FDNY thinks it would negatively impact the response time. Plus, the bus lanes in the cities are for emergency vehicles as well...

Also explain to me how they will be "forced" to buy more vehicles to transport them, how does this require more vehicles needed? The entitlement they all feel deserve is out of control, this is why all departments have lost all respect of the people, they all feel entitled and above when we deal with.
