Excellent video! The narrative helps those of us who haven't shot this type of product before but need experienced insight (and caveats) that tech sheets can't cover. Thanks for taking the time to post this!!

I ordered that gun after watching your vid. Boy does it work good for Featherfill. The 3.0mm tip is huge. Ive seen others use smaller tips like 2mm in gravity guns or the mini pressure pot from harborfreight and they just dont build up fast enough. This gun is faster with more flow and a decent fan. I dont use featherfill that much these days. I like using Tamco 2k 4to1 layed on thick with a 2mm gun. It doesn't shrink back much and its easier👍

if i'd have had slicksand in the 80's i'd be alot richer than i am,did restorations for over 43 years,i watched you put the featherfill on,wasn't impressed,but when you shot the slicksand on, it reminded me of doing my cuda,my car,i shot it,the slicksand seemed like it swelled,maybe my imagination,anyway i made it straight as hell,the slicksand is now my favorite,it stinks like hell,i shoot it and get away from it,when it drys it is superb,i'll try the feather fill on bikes and smaller projects,i like the thick viscosity,for rough bodies its wonderful thanks for the upload

Why did you spray the slick sand over the feather fill?? Why didn't you stick with one or the other?? Doesn't make sense to me.. And one more question -- Why didn't you just spray the damaged areas instead of the whole car?? Probably could have saved you tons of time in the sanding process... Good video, just confused!

I want to try the Air Gunsa. I really liked the SS. The feather fill that I tried was harder to sand too me but maybe I did something wrong or it was just that batch. I did filter out some quarts once and got caught up in spraying and forgot to put the hardner in. What a mess that was. lol. It all had to come back off. Great vid Mike.

Well, I just ran onto your channel and looked at some of your other video's headings. I am going to sub your channel. Looks like a channel I can learn some stuff from. After this video I am very interested in watching your blocking a Cadillac. I am working on a 29 Model A and I am going to have to skim coat and block sand those fenders. Maybe you can make a video where you repair, skim coat, use poly filler, and block sand those kind of rounded fenders! Would be very helpful to lots of people. I had to make some patches for the fenders that involved making the wire edge and rounded patch panel. Thanks again. Tom

Right on Tom! Thanks for the sub and kind words. I will be repairing a harley front fender in an upcoming video that will show a block out of a rounded fender. Check out a channel called shutyerface garage. He has a good video on blocking rounded fenders.

Great video. I was shooting Feather Fill G2 yesterday, but didn't want to shoot the whole quart. Found online where instead of using the full tube of hardener for the quart, you use 12-14 drops for each fl oz. Did that with 10 oz, shot it and it was still sticky after 3-4 hours. Tech sheet says able to sand in 90 mins. The beginning of your video, you are squeezing the entire hardener tube into what looks like less than a qt. of Feather Fill. Have you used the drops method?
@filibertobarrera38396 жыл бұрын
Feather fill is better when mixed in quarts,that shit kicks in pretty fast.I made a mistake of mixing half a gallon.By the time I sprayed a quart the other quart was already turning like oatmeal.

At the end, what kind of "block" are you sanding with? I'm also a bit confused, if you're comparing the two products why didn't you do 1/2 the car with one and the other 1/2 with the other to compare how they spray/fill/sand?
@JacobKnightRiderShop5 жыл бұрын
If this stuff is like spraying bondo, then why cant it go directly to the metal? Cause its not Filler, its a primer that goes on thick...no shrinkage like urethane.
@RatsnestHotrods5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's a sprayable filler. No shrinkage. The tech sheets say do not spray on bare metal

I am struggling soooo much with priming my entire roof with a spray gun. I like the 2 buckets and a plank idea... but idk where I would put the plank when i'm done with it. I am practically shooting blind at this point. Its only a little toyota but man, if I had something I could stand on where I could take just one step one way or the other I would be golden. I'm a big dude on top of that so I would put some SERIOUS flex into a plank like you! Any other good ideas?
@onomatopoeidia5 жыл бұрын
really top job. What am I missing by just going straight from epoxy to high fill primer and leaving out the feather fill middle layer? Would love to but hugely bumps up my cost as that stuff costs about $100 per litre here. ouch.
@plantpoweredhealth93834 жыл бұрын
In theory you could,if your bodywork was dead straight. You can use normal filler and lightweight filler if you only had a ripple here or there. But most of our old cars need the featherfill as its easy to apply,sand and check for straightness.

I was wondering what you think I should do. I’m thinking I’m gonna skim coat with rage gold then urekem epoxy primer then primer, basecoat, and clear. I was wondering what grits I should use and stop at between each stage and what’s a good glaze putty to use? And how long can I wait between each stage. Mainly need to know about laying skim coat and epoxy primer and long I can wait with epoxy primer bc I will have to order the primer, basecoat, and clear. But wanted to start on epoxy and learn bc first time doing this.

How could either of these primers be any harder to sand than body filler?? I call bs. I have used slick sand many times and it is a joy to sand because it is so easy and smooth. If it is laid on nicely, you can go straight to 320 or 400 grit. No way could you do that with filler or polyester putty. It makes no sense at all when people say that polyester primer is hard to sand. It is designed to be finely sanded and it is possible to paint directly over. It is great stuff. It makes big filler jobs much easier and sands like a dream.

Why do you use urethane over the featherfill? Epoxy wouldn’t work as well?
@RatsnestHotrods6 жыл бұрын
I sand the final shoot of FF with 180 grit. If I shot epoxy over it I wouldn't be able to sand to 400 or 600 grit. FF is body filler. Looking at it that way. If I laid down body filler all over the car and blocked it out you would shoot a high build urethane for final sand. After I have sanded to 400 or 600 I will shoot epoxy right before the base coat. Hope that helps
@hotrodroy1116 жыл бұрын
@@RatsnestHotrods Hell, I knew you can't sand epoxy. I am new to this body work stuff and the language of painting is difficult to get a grasp on. Now I think I understand much better. Thanks. One more question...I get why you do epoxy onto the metal to begin with, but why seal with epoxy before paint.
@hotrodroy1116 жыл бұрын
Is it because it is a better sealer than urethane
@RatsnestHotrods6 жыл бұрын
Well its debatable really. I think epoxy is a superior sealer over urethane. However I have and do use a urethane sealer all the time. Heres how I do it. Repair or flipping a car with a quick paint job I use urethane. Show car I use epoxy as a sealer. Both work very well but I think epoxy locks down the body work a little better. Make sense?
