8 ай бұрын

Join me in this live KZbin interview as I sit down with my friend and White Collar Advice client, Scott Carper. Scott and I discuss his experience at Leavenworth Federal Prison Camp in this interview.
Amongst other items, we will cover:
1: Adjusting to life in federal prison
2: What not to do in those early weeks in federal prison
3: How to avoid contraband (cell phones, drugs, problems with staff, etc) and the consequences that follow a disciplinary infraction.
4: How to stay healthy inside
5: Why Scott wrote a weekly newsletter from Leavenworth and how that newsletter impacted his sentence in good and bad ways.
6: RDAP at Leavenworth
7: How Scott's release plan influenced his life in prison and when he got to the halfway house.
8: and more!
Scott and I look forward to seeing you today and answering any questions you have.
Thank you,
Justin Paperny

Great job, hit several nails on the head. Having spent time at Leavenworth with Scott, everything he said is true and yes, wouldn’t chance a phone either since some get caught multiple times and get away with it, having to ‘bond out’ by getting 3-5 more phones at $150-250 each or cartons of cigarettes for the one Correction officer whom is always bartering to get more. Obviously we all have different experiences even when in the same place but halfway homes are different also. I had a yr and a day sentence and no RDAP but was in Mirror Inc in Topeka for 7 weeks and yes, still have not corrected the discharge date and stayed 3 wks past my good time credit and First Step Act Credit. My Case worker gave me a 20 hr notice of discharge to the halfway house so not everyone gets to know ahead of time. Well worth mentioning also they turn your phone and email access off by noon or 1pm the day before you leave so talk or email quickly if you find out you are leaving. Great video and look forward to hearing more!

This channel would appreciate an interview with Jeff Deskovic. He was in a super max for life (found innocent years later) and is a lawyer working exclusively to get the innocent out.

It's important judges understand that camps are not the picnic we so imagine. I think they have an easier time, psychologically sentencing our clients to prison, and lots of it, thinking it will be easy. It's anything but. The BOP is total shitshow.

Truth is, until the BOP gets reasonable about phones the cell phone issue won't go away.

Some prisons turn the other way from phones while others punish severely. I wouldn’t risk it. Hope you’re well.

If someone did over a year in county jail that’s being credited towards their federal sentence, will the bop credit them for the 54 days of good time on their county jail time?

Yes

@@jimflipz4774 do you have to wait for the bop to calculate it before it’s applied? I did 15.5 months in county before charges were switched to federal, with good time applied that’d be right at 18 months, plead guilty in federal court and was let out on bond with dismissal of state charges, federal prosecutor said I will get credit for the time in jail, looking at 18 months on guidelines, hoping the judge will factor in the good time credit and give me 18 month jail credit on front end instead of 15.5 and having to go into bop and wait for them to apply it which will probably take longer than the sentence end date
