@ItsAsparageese
@ItsAsparageese 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, I've never been in quite that situation but I'm unhoused and deeply networked into the street/poor community and ex-con community (which, in case any readers don't realize this, is separate -- not all poor/street people are criminals -- but there's a lot of social crossover too) ... And yeah, everyone's just human and has human needs. It's amazing what a little friendly acceptance can do for a person who's in a rough situation. Virtually nobody, except rare very mentally ill people, wakes up going "Ha-ha! I shall commit a frightening risky crime today and it shall be a delight to terrorize the innocent!". People do these things out of desperation. This video was really sweet and I love how Julie made such a creative exercise out of exploring the theme that we're all humans and basically have the same core needs.

I have a neighbor who has all these signs threatening to shoot people for trespassing, breaking in, standing near his vehicles for too long... I put up a sign that says "If you're thinking about robbing anyone I suggest you stay away from [neighbors address] but if you are feeling that desperate please knock on our door so we can try to help." We live on a dead end street, in a city where the biggest crime is running a stop sign. My neighbor has reported the sign numerous times for "Inviting criminals and thugs into our streets" but I tell him the same thing every time ... I'm only inviting them into my house, which according to your signs I am allowed complete dominion over.
