Can you negotiate a doc fee/dealer fee?
@hirotakasugi4891 Жыл бұрын
@@maryama3436 Generally, Yes. But if your state has laws regarding licensed vehicle seller doc filing/electronic filing fee there's a good chance they will sit on that fee as long as it doesn't breach the law ie. it's within cap. But dealers CAN waive those. It's basically just them passing over the cost of documents/filing to you like sales tax.

I am trying to buy a 2023 Toyota RAV 4 hybrid and almost every dealership is charging a 2000 dollar market adjustment fee and when I said that fee is ridiculous, I was told that all dealerships were charging that and they were not going to budge, but I found 3 dealerships that weren’t charging market adjustment fees and I will give my business to them. One dealership were charging a 3500 dollar fee and that was for an extended warranty which they are trying to force on the consumer. Buying a car now is a big challenge and a big headache.

Watching your videos have helped me on how to buy a vehicle. Yesterday at a Toyota dealer I purchased a 2016 Camry with 62K miles with no accidents and the dealer wanted to add an addit $1595 for Lojack that was installed on the veh. I told them I did not want to pay for Lojack and it was a deal breaker & then the used car manager whined that they had paid to install Lojack & then offered to split the cost. with me. I said No & picked up my purse to leave. Then he said, "Let me talk to my manager" --and then he came back & said he would waive the fee. Hi Zach & Ray people should hear/know about this shady dealership in NJ. My son who's 24 and I went to a Hyundai dealership, and I asked for the out-the-door price. When the salesperson came back the price was almost $5,500 more than what the internet advertised price was. This was because he added $3,495 Certified pre-owned certification fee(CPO)??? This is actually a 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty, $1,000 non-Military fee and $1,000 Loyalty fee! The salesperson said because we WEREN'T Military it an extra 1K and an extra 1K because we had never bought a car with them before. This makes me mad 😡because those two are discounts you give to people who are eligible for them, these should not be a PENALTY or actually and excuse to just raise the price. I told the salesperson that we don't want the CPO we don't want because that's a warranty, but he said no thanks for the CPO - warranty. The salesman said "We only sell our cars with the CPO certification fee". The CPO is something you think about possibly getting as a warranty with the finance officer in the back. They are trying to do "Tied Selling" or bundling products as a force add-on 🤬

I'm picking up a 2023 Camry at $400 below MSRP today. I told a sellsperson to cut my doc fee in half and lower MSRP accordingly. Nothing extra, including "market adjustment". The trick of not paying all the dealer add ons is to order a vehicle in transit to the dealer, one they could not "customize". They still made some money on the difference between MSRP and Invoice price and 2% Hold Back ($500?). Can you explain the "lifetime" (we do not see it here, I suspect for good reason) - Dealer Lifetime Warranties. I think to offer basically an insurance programs the dealer would have to actually meet some standard - like a separate trust or entity independent in a sense of the dealer "general funds" with a reserve expectation that needs to be maintained and some disclosures the client sees to let them know the ease of that disappearing say once the reserves are no longer being met.

All these manufacturers and dealers that want to keep supply low and prices high better watch out for new competitors taking over their market share. Alot easier to enter a market if prices are 10-30% higher and then they can learn and undercut and really steal business from legacy manufacturers. Not a great business model! If they want to actually compete and have a sustainable business model, OEMs and dealers better figure out ways to get more supply for cheaper, get more efficient at building, reduce overhead costs, and quit wasting people's time trying to negotiate costing them time and lost deals

Unfortunately, the wifey and I have to buy another new car this weekend, hers is old. We just bought a used truck (only 11k and certified) in 2019. Now I would much rather have her buy a car or jeep from the same dealership where we got my truck but the prices are higher than what she wishes to spend. Is there any reason I should not try the line "I know I can get more money off if I go back to where I bought my truck for customer loyalty, so why can't you give me more off for taking me away from them?" Also, she is looking at the Kia, Forte, and Honda Civic. The honda is higher and has better fuel economy and power, but it also has a turbo which to me is another expensive part to go bad. Honda does not carry the warranty that Kia does, can I also use that against them for better pricing? Saying something like "I am willing to pay more for the Kia due to the much longer warranty" or I am willing to pay more for the Honda due to the extra power and fuel economy" Depending on which dealer I am at. I have been watching as many of your videos as I can, and even though I was an auto tech for quite a while I never thought of the money from the services angle. I am also planning and using the "Word of mouth" aspect as in get me out of here with a great deal and I will spread the word. Get more potential customers in the door. with all of the shenanigans that automakers and dealers are pulling, I am definitely using that against them. as well as you are not the only dealers in the area someone will make me a great deal and I will walk. I did that with the first dealer that acted like he didn't want to sell a truck at all. the next day I bought my truck and made sure that I sent a detailed e-mail with all the details to the general manager of the 1st dealer. I may be swayed if I can get some accessories at no extra cost such as vent visors and rubber mats.

@anthonymalovrh2912 Жыл бұрын
For the Silverado, what fees are taxable? Just the Protection Package and markup?
@scottr2706 Жыл бұрын
The answer is simple. Any fee from the state (such as registration or sales tax) are not taxed and are legit. Any fee which is taxed, regardless of what it is called, is a FAKE FEE. Except for the acquisition fee on a lease which comes from the leasing company not the dealer. Any fee a dealer attempts to charge which is included in the taxable amount is FAKE and is actually part of the price. For example, the dealer advertises a price of $35,000 and a doc fee of $500, the price is actually $35,500. How to beat these FAKE fees? If you think a fair price for this vehicle is $34,000, offer to pay $33,500 plus the doc fee. These dealer fees are nothing but a scam used by car dealers to (1) increase profit and (2) advertise a lower price while hiding the FAKE fee in the small print.

Agreed, so many ways you can screwed on a car lease. You get a great job opportunity that would add enough miles to your commute that suddenly you're going to be thousands of miles over the mileage limit and hammered on mileage fees. Etc etc etc, not to mention it's basically the most expensive way to own a car, and you don't own it. Better off buying a good used car, you own it, and can do what you want with it and not be in debt like it's a mortgage on something that could be destroyed the next time you drive it. The definition of insurance is "find s reason not to pay" and with a huge loan, that's a big risk.
@mrsmith1339 Жыл бұрын
No. 2 years ago I could lease with $3000 lease cash. $2200 discount, and $1500 loyalty, plus a low money factor (APR) That is now gone 445,000 MSRP vehicle is now $225-$250 more per month, for nothing. I could lease for 1% of MSRP with nothing down. For those who say buy for cash, don't forget your opportunity costs. You will pay depreciation no matter when you sell it. You pay sales atax on 100% of sales price and may get some back. On a $50,000 purchase, opportunity cost is $250 a month. Buying really costs $900 plus if you sell or trade in 3 years.

There is another option that we can say well if you won't reduce the Doc Fee, then take that amount out of my price of the car. Not sure how that will fly, but I shall see soon. Take care.
@TuskoFan Жыл бұрын
Doesn't the FTC dictate that these 'fake fees/addons' are illegal, once the price of the car has been determined? This includes the Doc Fee that you always see added to the price of the vehicle. I'm watching a similar channel to yours (The Homework Guy) and they're always preaching that these fees are illegal according to FTC regulations as they pertain to car dealers.

Or maybe finance thru your bank....maybe buy the car online directly thru the manufacturer website?

With all the shenanigans they pull, car dealers are going to put themselves out of business. And consumers would not be sad about it.

That car in that trim msrp is 65k. Easy enough to find on the chevy website. The Honda vehicle price is about right on the Pilot.

I had the following lease quote and wonder what you think about it: Vehicle Selling Price 25,480.00 Document Prep Fee 499.00 License / Title 448.82 Data Dotts 268.00 Acquisition Fee 699.00 Capitalized Initial Fees 149.52 Total Cap 27,544.34 it's a lease for 36 months so I wonder if any of those are overcharged? :S
@NateClay Жыл бұрын
Don't lease unless you're going to do it for the rest of your life. *Seriously.* You're paying 50% of the value (plus whatever fees they want), and you get no car at the end.

If all car dealers where like you, your show would be totally different. It would probably be along the lines of talking about the neat new vehicles coming out, not how you can be ripped off.

And for "CarEdge" to figure out! That Ford Thunderbird that MSRP'ed at $21,780, JUST OFF the truck a day before, sold at $16,200. HOW in the World did "I" do that???? GO FIGURE, CarEdge!!! @ 26% OFF that MSRP!!! How was that possible "CarEdge"??? According to "CarEdge's" ADVISE this would be unheard of!! Really??? Spend a couple of weeks and do YOUR home work!! WHY spend thousands more than necessary? NOTICE: CarEdge is in the "Dealer's "FAVOR .... Every time!!!

Is (BLACK BOOK) where I can find the MSRP?
@scottr2706 Жыл бұрын
The MSRP is attached to the vehicle, called the Monroney sticker. The Black Book is a dealer tool to provide values of used vehicles. It may list MSRP as well.

Florida greed. We have the most expensive homes and car dealers now. Tropical Chevrolet is Miami. Even Toyota buyers are screwed in Florida since we have not only the greed of the Toyota dealers, but also the greed of the South East Toyota Distributor company that forces the port-added options that jack up the price of the car before it even gets to the greed dealers.

It's pretty simple if you don't pay the markup, then you get no car .... You can't negotiate the markups and added products because if customers are paying them, then the dealership will simply say no to your offer ... There is plenty of fish in the sea...
@glenshepard6960 Жыл бұрын
Getting to be less fish in the sea. There are dealers out there that will deal. Takes time and homework, but they can be found. I'd imagine that after a person buys a marked up vehicle and become underwater, they will probably not be back to that dealership. Those dealers with markup will also have service departments with price markups. People are starting to wake up.
@tracylee2190 Жыл бұрын
@Glen Shepard That is still years away... People who need a car now need it now, not later. The only reason dealerships charge over sticker and add products is because people pay them its that simple. If people didn't pay them, they wouldn't do business this way.

That is what I also figure the car dealers will do. You can finagle all we want as a customer, but in the end the car dealer will not budge on their fees. From other great you tube videos, I do have parts of the "FTC document about cars" regulating some of these bad fraudulent practices. And if they won't budge, tell them I am going to report you to the FTC commission on fraudulent fees and pricings.
@glenshepard6960 Жыл бұрын
@Tracy Lee It's already happening. The tax refund money is less this year. Interest rates have gone up with prices rising on everything else. There will be fewer sales from here on out. Those who need vehicles will get hosed but will most likely not be a repeat buyer. Dealerships need repeatl customers, and repeat customers don't want to be taken advantage of. GM has recognized the fact that their pickup trucks aren't selling as well as they thought they would with some trucks at 100 days and over. So GM decided to shut their truck assembly line down for a couple of weeks until they have 60-day inventory. Which may or may not happen. I feel sorry for anyone who needs a vehicle at the moment or the near future.

Like virtually every KZbin self-proclaimed expert, this channel caters to people relatively illiterate about whatever subject which they have that expertise. When this channel started they were interesting. Then it became a business, selling ESCs, then selling buying help, and blah, blah, blah.

I dont believe that there are any good honest Honda dealerships in the state of Georgia. They are all con artist! I have given up for now. All of the foolish people paying more than the car is worth is ruining it for the rest of us.. Please stop!

Lots of talk about greedy dealers. This is more the fault of the buyers. Dealers don't set the market...buyers will to pay insane fees and markups do. Stop doing it!
