Russia, and Ukraine have a very long history of women in combat. In WWII there were entire female sniper Battalions. Very famous females serving as Snipers. Rosa Shanina, Lyudmila Pavlechenko come to mind right away. They had huge numbers of sniper kills in Stalingrad. I get why this is a good story and inspirational.. But its nothing new.

Having kids makes you do things you never thought you could do before. So when she said "I go to the frontline for them", that's powerful stuff right there. But in this day and age why does gender mean anything? When it comes down to "being able to do x, y, z" , the only thing that should matter is, can you do it. Not the gender or color or religion etc.. Sadly many places in the world are very far behind in times and still stuck in a time where those things are looked at as a deciding factor.

"I wanted to be a sniper since childhood - so, clearly, I do it for my kids and not some power fantasy" Gender means something. Have you heard she needs female hygiene products? You know what's attracted by blood, when you are out in the field? Animals, you genius. A bear is a far better hunter than you think, you won't notice him approaching even if you have your head on a swivel in a thick forest. Bears can smell your menstrual cycle a kilometer downwind. Other animals can too - dogs of the enemy, for example. Women are also able to carry less. Must mean SOMETHING, when she's shouldering 2 rifles - one of which needs to be fed with .308 rounds. She doesn't seem to carry any kit, including her female hygiene articles, or ruck for hydration and / or nets for cover in the open. She never seems to have her face covered either, with camo paint or dirt - of course the red hair helps, if you face a competent enemy sniper who knows "red" is easily spottable on all backgrounds of the battlefield that "isn't covered in blood". There's several examples of female soldiers, in the US, that can't seem to operate slings. They come in from a march or PT exercise nearly dying of exhaustion, while the men around seems to be "slightly sweaty" and still easily able to carry their rucksacks. It absolutely matters what gender you are. There's also examples of some US military branches lowering their PT or entry standards - for women. It also matters what religion you are. Unit cohesion is important in ALL militaries across the globe. It is SO important to people, that they divide their militaries into different religious wings. The syrian army had a special wing for their orthodox christian fighters - as a recent a prominent example. It ALSO MATTERS what color your skin is. Again: Unit cohesion. Fighting for a flag only brings you that far - look at America trying to defeat Afghanistan. "Fighting for your brother and people" let's you win against all odds, because you aren't discouraged when you see someone that looks like you always be combat ready. The result of such a cohesion you can see in Vietnam - the biggest BTFO America has ever endured. You don't believe me? Look at the American units during WW2. Ranging from "italian", to "irish" and "africa" units. They separated everyone. Why would any of this matter in Ukraine? Well: They put their volunteers into their own category. They divide them by language in this case. 100% of which are men, btw - who can carry their kit. This is also shown in video uploads to KZbin, where volunteers used a GoPro to film their operations. Why were they divided up? Language, for the most part. But more importantly: You can send out volunteers for recon (again: you can see that in the videos on youtube) and have them attack small locations and / or get some information of enemy formations around a target. War isn't a videogame, and judging by your pfp that's all you know.

Been watching a lot of Ukraine war footage from the front lines. Things are really terrible out there. I could unfortunately not help to notice that there is no woman in these combat groups in the meat grinder at the front. I think that diversity is really, really important. We as a global community cannot turn a blind eye to the lack of diversity at the the front lines in Ukraine any longer. They've never been some of the toughest warriors historically. That's just Hollywood wank. There's a reason that practically every army throughout history has been composed entirely of men. For the obvious reason that men make far better warriors than women, due to the obvious physical AND I would say, temperamental advantages that we have in combat. Yes, I know, that in modern war, thousands of women have taken up arms... from Russian partisans in WW2, to this Ukrainian chick. But even here, you'll find that they're usually supported by men, and it's the men who do the lion's share of the fighting. Besides, she doesn't seem particularly tough or battle hardened to me. FFS, in that last photo of her holding the weapon while (presumably) in combat, she's wearing lipstick and nail polish... really??? I wonder how many Russians she's actually killed. Nice story! They forget to tell you the suffering of others: last week, 2 nurses of the Ukrainian army were raped, tortured and left for dead in a trench by Ukrainian soldiers. Chechen soldiers discovered them and gave them first aid before accompanying them to a Russian military hospital. The two women are still alive but will have lifelong scars from their torture.
