But it would be nice governments would at least stop subsidizing mind poison and the sorts of "education" that teaches feeble mindedness. This stuff would never survive on its own merits, and gets debunked over and over (seen the Thomas Sowell clip from, I think, the early 90s debunking the wage gap?), yet carries on being pushed anyways. When I was in the Army, I had a saying that “competence has no gender, colour or ethnicity”. If a person met the standard, they met the standard plain and simple. I was called a racist-sexist-bigot for abiding by that. Feminism has insisted on the “sliding scale” of standards be applied to one group but not the other, that’s not equality but superiority. Today’s feminism (whether you call it third wave or not) is not about equality at all.

Feminism from its inception has been an idea from the 1800s based on the Marxist idea of class warfare and adapted to the Genders. That idea has evolved today to the point where any "characteristic" is now a line you can divide yourself by into difference grievance groups. It's a system of eternal conflict so the population are at each other's throats, instead of doing what a population should be doing and maintaining their eternal vigilance on their rights and freedoms so tyrants don't slide in while everybody is distracted. The core concept of "feminism" is that men as a gender are grouping together to "oppress" women, even though no such thing has ever happened and men go out of their way to protect women. They use the justification of "those who were in positions of power were men". Because, with Marxists, everything is about power. Well, those men were oppressing other men too. Those men were the men out on the front lines and down in the mines making sure you didn't have to too. They're the ones who are picking up your garbage every day and climbing telephone towers to make sure your mobile phones have receptions too. But yeah. "men are oppressing women".

"I think that third wave feminism should be equality; real equality." That is impossible for two reasons. The first is that it is impossible to ever achieve real equality given that everyone is different and has different interests and capabilities. The second is that feminism has never been about equality and can never be about equality. Feminism is about the advancement of women on the basis of equality, which is not the same thing as pushing for equality. As soon as you aim to help men in ways that they're not doing very well on the basis of equality of the sexes, you're no longer doing feminism, by definition.

Those whose labours produce economic benefit valued in their currency are always valued more than those whose labours go unpaid. Hence the equality of the sexes is improbable without both respect for identity and value. Females joining the male system with ever more aggression than males in it doesn't mean equality wins but that male traits win and they show they can be more male than males. Christina Hoff Sommers, you've done a lot of great work. I am really grateful that you are out there presenting your ideas. Men have put women and children first, as seen in disasters and the normalization of everyday male sacrifice such as chivalry. And, you're incorrect if you think that women were oppressed in any significant way. Men bear the brunt of life's hardships, whether toiling in difficult terrain and weather, sacrificed in wars, stepping forward to keep their women and children safe, or toiling long hours over spreadsheets and calculations. The result being that men have shorter life spans in almost every country, and it's so normalized that no one seems to have any interest in exploring this inequity.
@RicktheRecorder5 жыл бұрын
Christina is a great heroine, and is part of the oh-so-necessary pushback against the modern ideological religions. But perhaps she should re-evaluate her support for first wave feminism and the suffrage movements, as if they were fundamentally different in kind from later versions. As people like Karen Straughan and Janice Fiamengo have started to point out, very much of what we think we know about early feminism is no more than politically crafted folklore. The majority of women got the vote almost immediately after the majority of men got the vote. Women could and did own property. Women have been able to operate in the major trades and professions since mediaeval times. What oppressed women was broadly the same as what oppressed men: harsh economic conditions and disease. Childbirth and rearing gave women a hugely fulfilling purpose in life, as well as a highly dangerous and burdensome function. The Pill (invented by men) gave women control of that reproductive burden for the first time, and that is where modern feminism starts. It may prove a two-edged social sword however as it significantly affects women’s purpose in life and their behaviour.

Writing as an older gay man (67) what is so very sad about the work of Catherine MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin is that they are always on the side of the censorious, and the puritanical. For me, as an adolescent, gay porn was a great counter-force against such people, whether in Politics or the Church. Where these latter two forces were telling my young brain that, what I craved was depraved and UGLY in every sense, gay porn told me that my desires were perfectly usual to other gay men, and that gay sex could be just as beautiful (or ugly!) as 'straight' sex. MacKinnon and Dworkin consider that no-one should be having sex at ALL! And certainly not for fun! So where does that place their critique? Perhaps within the Roman Catholic Church?

Feminism, in whatever form, started from the beginning (Genesis 3). Feminism has nothing to do with equality. It has everything to do with preferential treatment. Women don't want to be equal with men. They want to supplant them. (again...Genesis 3). The aforementioned Biblical reference also is clear that the woman would NEVER supplant the man. Like the issue of women in combat, women have to have men to succeed. It isn't the other way around. My point is if the goal was equality in combat situations, they would have formed all female groups to see if they could indeed be equally competitive. I mean there are centuries of data on all male combat groups with which to compare. Like all high risk jobs in which women participate, they have to have males in close proximity to appear to succeed in that position. The male is biologically, ergonomically, emotionally and mathematically the superior design. The female is basically a walking incubator to propagate the species. Once an artificial womb is designed and operational, women will be obsolete. I mean if one reads the first three chapters of Genesis, the question would invariably arise as to why God created the female the way he did. I mean such an inferior design. He didn't just variate the design to improve the design. It was a complete redesign with significant design shortcomings. So if God is perfect...then ...why? He knew of the future deception and fall. He predesignated the female to always be less than.

"I was excommunicated from a religion that I did not now existed." I have been aware of that "religion" (gender feminism = GF) for nearly 50 years. I am very surprised that Sommers remained aloof from GF until she began teaching feminist theory in the late 1980s. By that time, feminist theory was well ensconced in the American academy. GF is grounded in the following authors: Kate Millet, Germaine Greer (the author of The Female Eunuch), Sally Gearhart, Mary Daly, Shulamith Firestone, Marilyn French, Adrienne Rich, Susan Brownmiller (author of Against Our Will) and Robin Morgan, the founder of Ms magazine and the most consequential of all Second Wave gender feminists. In interviews she gave in the 1980s, Betty Friedan, the founder of the Second Wave, clearly disassociated herself from GF. No gender feminist is a trained quantitative social scientist, and there lies the rub. I agree with Sommers's contention that gender feminism dismisses data calling GF into question, as products of a patriarchal conspiracy. A little personal fact helps explain Sommers's views on this topic; she is the mother of two sons. Daly, Firestone, French and Rich are dead. Millet has struggled with mental illness for much of her adult life. Greer's books published this century have not been well reviewed. Brownmiller no longer agrees with Against Our Will, but is afraid to recant publicly.

The same internal dynamic happened as well in climate discourse. The climate movement had made huge advances, and changed the behavior of citizens, corporations, and governments; a real awareness had resulted. But then global warming was embraced as a kind of categorical imperative, and the science wasn't then, and isn't now, behind it. Then activism and hysteria took over, to the point where it's now dogma. The notion of the patriarchy controlling and setting in place (viz. Foucault) the very means of describing and understanding women's phenomenological reality, is now reframing environmentalism as a kind of catastrophism with an actual end date. This ramping up of a discipline into conspiracy theory territory is likely happening in many fields now. How leftist political parties and activist groups act towards conservatives now has the same tone to it, escalating continuously.

There are fundamental differences in how men and women approach leadership and justice. Men tend toward a broad view of blind justice. Men will develop fundamental principles to create ordered societies. Women tend toward a myopic view of focused justice. Women tend to myopically develop rash responses to perceived injustices, but fail to then see that their rash response creates derivative injustices. Women will tend to see the consequent injustices as new and unconnected problems that need new rash solutions. The creation of cascading problems and new solutions for these problems creates a chaotic society. As a libertarian, I believe in freedom for all, but I also believe in biology. There are differences between men and women that make each generally more suited for some specialized tasks. We have lost our way because we have unrealistic expectations that biology is fake science and that men and women are always and in every circumstance interchangeable. This should be obviously false, but it is today controversial and triggering.

Women leaving men in the dust at University she says with pride. There's 8 times a many scholarships available to women as there are to men to attend college and even with that edge in funding it's only 60/40, more women than men attending university. Then there's the issue of what degrees are women getting? If more women are graduating but they're getting degrees in humanities or gender studies then they're $100,000 in debt for a piece of worthless paper. The only unresolved issue is that feminism needs to stop. Due to spineless and moral-bankrupt people in power, feminists have received much more than they had hoped for. Now, a typical feminist is unhappy, girl/women-hating, promiscuous, self-loathing, purity-hating, men-envious people who live lives devoid of purpose, meaning and worth. Knowing their lives are pointless, they are determined to lash out and bring down western civilization.

The following is based on generalities. I realize that there is some overlap in personalities. But if feminists can say the patriarchy oppresses women and favors men (ignoring men's suicides, imprisonment, workplace deaths, loneliness and isolation), then that barn door has already been blasted open. When men lead, they consider women and men (men have an out-group bias, and believe in serving and protecting women). When women lead, there will be corruption and bias (women have an in-group bias, and tend to seek their own happiness and pleasure--as evidenced by industries catering to women, such as massage, beauty parlors, scented soaps/candles..) Also, women are higher in neuroticism (as per in the Big-5 personality test), and I wonder if this isn't because girls are coddled from the time they're little. I wonder if this doesn't lead to a more unstable mental disposition, and a greater reliance on external stimulus to soothe and validate. And now with easy validation via social media, they've further degenerated.

The Red Hat Society has often been recommended for me to join. After keeping house for a lovely elderly couple composed of a world war II veteran woman and a man born into a German or whatever he didn't say family here in North America who didn't reveal one way or another if he was a veteran himself or not too to brag I was delighted when getting to know what feminism was all about from both of them when it was in the original, "Let's demand the vote too" form. So because I was allowed to participate in candid discussions during well earned breaks there I learned from the greatest generation how to push back in the best double barreled way possible. Needless to say I was not at all surprised when hearing vitriol rhetoric later from my much younger than them too legal aid divorce lawyer himself [Whom I often tried to change but was never allowed to do so once he latched onto my contribution source] concerning on how I dared to respect my masters most coming from the female side of that command line as maid only because she gave the orders without having to teach her man at the same time.

The central figure in the British struggle for female suffrage, Emmeline Pankhurst, did NOT believe that all women should have the right to vote. She only wanted women to vote if they could vote if they were men. The first British election in which all men past their 21st birthdays could vote was that of 1918. Before that election, British men who had neither property nor education were often not allowed to vote. Ms Pankhurst was fine with that. Her daughter Sylvia disagreed and pushed for universal suffrage regardless of property ownership. When Emmeline died, she and her daughter were estranged, because Sylvia was attracted to Bolshevism while Emmeline was not.

Even Ms Hoff-Summers lost a husband who was in his early 90's; yet the same old. tired rhetoric is flubbed out towards young men; that women ars "...leaving them in the dust." I ask myself what does this mean? How is it that the treatment against boys and young men must seem to be deserved, appropriate, necessary? Unless the only way that current need to describe themselves is: equal, yes, of course; but BETTER; Oh, definitely. There exists between men who think about these things a seething frustration in the dichotomy displayed in this proposition that reserves one form of discrimination towards and against, one part of human biology, and thence, against quite another, whom the first discrimination was intended. If a man can become a woman with a PENIS, then any "discrimination" against a man is a regression towards anyway of hurting and destroying THAT fight.

It's not a problem for women to insist on fair and decent treatment. It is a problem when some attempt to turn a valid concern into an ideology. @brackcarmony63855 жыл бұрын
Such as some people are in dysfunctional relationships, some men do beat their gfs or wives. Now I agree that those issues are not so much a governmental problem, as a 'how do we coexist in healthy ways' sorts of issues. Especially since most of those issues are not really specific to one gender or the other. Of course there are some people who treat their daughter worse than a son, there are other families where they treat their son worse than their daughter. And still others where they treat a particular son better than the other son. There is no way to remove all the issues that individuals face, nor a reasonable way to try and completely level the playing field. The best we can do, is stand up for people's right to individual autonomy, and hope that they can figure out the best responses to the situations they face, while trying to be helpful to those around us.

It amazes me that most women always think they were the ONLY ones that have ever been oppressed or suffered. Apparently the very concept of men being oppressed or suffering is not within the grasp of their minds. Therefore they always ignore issues that exist that effect both men and women, only seeing how women are effected. The original feminists who wanted the vote for women ignored that at that time most men did not have the vote. When arguing for equal pay they ignored that men were not on equal pay. The list goes goes on proving how women are the eternal victims.

It's said it gave men the right to not accept no as a valid reason to decline sex. Far from liberating them it merely made women more sexually available and stripped them of choice. Again, abortion gave men advantage as shotgun weddings of convenience could be avoided. The legal system changed to favour women with children by empowering them to strip men financially naked. An odd reversal of power.

feminisms - started with 2 lies - work is a privilege, and men controlled social norms. Sorry - but neither was ever true. The push around women and work , was not accompanied by push for men and family, so one must ask, was it ever really about equality? If it was, would it not have been open to issues for both? Her argument with regards to so many women being so happy to adopt a hate for men, well, what do you suppose that does for men's view of women. I would also ask - where are even the "equality feminists" on family law - and the harm to men, and children? Remember pushed decades ago by NOW- and there was little concern regarding the objections Karen DeCrow raised - then... so what should men think? (the major source of suicide in middle aged men).
